Places to stay in Llanwrtyd Wells
The room is a large private with double bed (5' width) plus dressing table. There is a beautiful ensuite bathroom, with both shower and bath. There is also a small space for dressing. The room is on the first floor (or second floor if you are from Asia or the US) and overlooks the river Irfon; the view is very remarkable and also takes in the farmer's fields on the other side of the bank.
I do not own a television or a TV licence.
Neighbourhood is very peaceful, this is the smallest town in the UK! The house is on the Llandovery Road, so during the day there is traffic. At night and in the evening it is silent. There are many walks and cycle runs to enjoy. A lovely part of mid-|Wales.
  • Outstanding host set in a beautiful location. Went above and beyond what I expected. Jason is an excellent host and made me feel at home in his beautiful property. Couldn't recommend Jason any more greatly.

  • The White House is a stunning property in the heart of Llanwrtyd Wells and Jason is a most gentlemanly host! The guest suite is amazing, you have almost a whole private flat to yourself, an extremely comfortable bed, luxurious bathroom and the sound of the river outside to lull you to sleep. Jason is still decorating much of the house but the guest suite and the kitchen are perfect and really beautifully done, and if there's anything you need Jason is very helpful and responsive. He also loves dogs and is always up for taking one for a walk! The surrounding countryside is extraordinary and The White House makes a great base for exploring. Highly recommended!

Cozy wooden cabin in the heart of Wales set amongst the forest of beautiful Abergwesyn. Great base for adventurers or as a romantic getaway.
Cozy wooden cabin in the heart of Wales set amongst the forests of beautiful Abergwesyn. Great base for adventurers, walkers, bikers and cyclists or as a romantic getaway. Single room wooden cabin with outside under cover kitchen facilities. Separate toilet, sink and hot water shower in nearby barn. The cabin is located near to the owner's cottage, but is very private, and has it's own garden area with space for an extra tent. No other properties are visible from the cabin. Well behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement, and must be kept on a lead at all times outside the cabin. The cabin is unheated during the summer months, early autumn and late spring, but there are plenty of blankets and hot water bottles to keep guests warm on chilly evenings. Interaction with host is as required by the guests. Stunning scenery, wildlife, wild swimming, mountain walking or biking, fabulous drives, and starry starry nights. Excellent pub food three miles away. The cabin is rural so a car, bike or bicycles are a necessity. Private parking is available.

  • We are two young professionals who left the comfort and security of the West Midlands for our first romantic getaway. What could be better than staying in a cosy cabin surrounded by glorious nature and outstanding scenery? Between Google maps and Janine’s instructions, we had no problems finding the location. Upon arrival, Janine welcomed us and showed us around our abode for the next two nights. After all our travelling, like many others before us, we indulged in Janine’s delicious Welsh cakes which lived up to the description left in previous reviews. After settling in, our survival instincts kicked in and we lit a fire in the fire pit. We had brought with us three large bags of kindling, a box of fire lighters and a lighter. We later discovered that we only needed two bags of kindling because we only cooked on the fire pit twice, each evening. However we had to drive to a shop to get more firefighters. (Top tip: don’t leave your lighter out in the rain overnight or this will be added to your shopping list). Cooking on the fire pit was a lovely experience and created a real sense of adventure and teamwork. (Top tip: With no light pollution to spoil the scenery it would be great to bring a torch with you to ensure that your meat is cooked through or just use the torch on your phone). After filling our bellies, we retired for the night. Being winter, Janine had thoughtfully provided and left on an electric heater which took the chill off the room. We did however, make full use of the array of blankets provided to keep warm. The next day, we woke up feeling refreshed to the sound of the stream nearby. The amenities in the kitchenette meant that we could make a cup of tea using the kettle provided and cook sausages on the induction hob. In the cabin is a folder filled with information of local walks and advice. We used this to plan our day and set off exploring on one of the routes provided. The route we chose was not overly demanding but provided breathtaking scenery and the instructions were accurate meaning we did not get lost. (Top tip: bring snacks and a drink for your walk). When we returned from our expedition, we slipped into something more comfortable, the ponchos provided and played one of the many board games located in the cupboard. It rained on and off throughout our stay which only added to the charm. It was cloudy on the first night but we were fortunate that on the second night, the sky was clear and the stars pierced the night sky. We sat outside stargazing with a cup of tea and it was breathtaking. The following day, we checked out but just before venturing back to reality we took a detour to the Devil’s Staircase. The scenery on the drive there is incredible and the drive was not taxing due to the good roads. (Top tip: the road leading to the Devil’s Staircase is steep and winding. However my Hyundai i10 handled it, if she can, you can). We then ventured home and have enjoyed reminiscing about it since and would happily return.

  • Just as described, peaceful and remote in the forest. A bit nippy and a bit wet at this time of year but warm and cosy in the cabin.

    Eva2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Quirky cabin in the woods, nice and peaceful, board games are a nice touch! Had a fantastic time away for the night. Made our experience better with no phone signal, being away from the world. Highly recommend! Will definitely be going back.

    Jasmine2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Everything you need for a peaceful, lovely weekend.. The electric blanket and the board games were much appreciated.

    Ame2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Janine was a lovely and kind host who greeted us on check in and showed us around. The cabin was exactly what we needed for a quiet night away and we made full use of the board games and cooked our dinner on the fire outside. We stayed on a night that got down to minus temperatures but still stayed warm in the cabin and the electric blankets kept us cosy through the night! Thank you for a lovely stay!

    Hannah2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little cabin in the middle of the woods. Cosy little space. A little cold but we did have a heater / plenty of blankets & slippers! Plenty of nearby streams and waterfalls. Be sure to check out devil's staircase for absolutely stunning views!

Set at the foot of the Epynt mountains a few minutes walk from the village of Llangammarch Wells, this comfortable 200 year old cottage puts you at the heart of nature - you can enjoy walking, mountain biking, riding and a host of outdoor activities. (Please note - contact the host for special offers on stays from 4 to 6 nights as Airbnb pricing doesn't allow it automatically. Also, if you have kids 18 and under, please add them as infants (under 2) so you won't be charged extra for them).
Ceiros Cottage provides you with a total escape from the stresses of daily life. The cottage has been tastefully refurbished to give you a cosy rural retreat with all the modern conveniences you need. Only a few minutes from the village of Llangammarch Wells, you can walk to the local pub, post office/shop and the beautiful river Irfon.
Mid Wales gives you everything from majestic mountains and ancient monuments to extreme sports. Llangammarch Wells is a village in the parish of Irfon Valley in Powys, mid Wales, within the historic County of Brecnockshire. The village is on the Heart of Wales train line, which connects this idyllic hide away to the rest of the world and it lies on Route 43 of the National Cycle Network. It is the smallest of the spa towns of mid Wales, alongside Llanwrtyd Wells, Builth Wells and Llandrindod Wells. The spa was focused on a barium well, which is now closed, but the village is still popular with visitors and anglers. It was also famed for the horse fairs that were held here. The old village is centred around the parish church of St Cadmarch. There are two hotels, one houses the local pub and restaurant, a Post Office/village shop, St Cadmarch’s church and the Nazareth Methodist Chapel. Nestled in the foothills of Mynydd Epynt, Llangammarch Wells is a very rural community. The land around is largely moorland or agricultural, the latter used for livestock farming. It is close to the Epynt Way, a fantastic resource for walkers, cyclists and riders with its waymarked routes and stunning scenery, and is 8 miles from Builth Wells, the home of the Royal Welsh Show.

  • As with my previous stay, it was an amazingly quiet and tranquil place to stay. It doesn’t disappoint.

    Chris2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was just perfect for my needs. It’s beautifully tucked away and so incredibly quiet. I didn’t get a chance to meet Janine - mostly my doing as I arrived later than expected. But everything was ready for me and the check-in instructions were very clear. I very much hope to come back some time...

    Chris2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Life in miniature with a touch of style, a comfortable bed and a small fridge. Delicious home-made welshcakes on our arrival. You're in the depths of the country here and thrown back on your own resources. No internet, no radio, no television, just peace and quiet. As for places to eat, The Trout in Beulah serves decent pub food, and the Lake hotel in Llangammarch does a very reasonable cream tea.

  • We had such a wonderful stay at the Hanky Panky House. The room was clean and comfortable for 2 with convenient parking right outside. The hospitality provided by Roland and his family was outstanding, they instantly made us feel welcome and at ease. We were freely allowed roam around the farm and enjoy the surrounding walks which were beautiful and great for picnics or to watch the sun set. There were lots of things to see or do both within 25 minutes drive in each direction. Would highly recommend.

You will be staying in an area of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) which means that we have a lot of wildlife - especially birds. Woodpecker Cottage should have everything you need including a fully equipped kitchen, microwave etc.
Woodpecker Cottage is on the edge of the Cambrian Mountains. It is surrounded by mountains, forests, rivers and lakes. There are no other houses nearby apart from our other cottages and our house. Its a great area for walking and cycling (and just sitting on the terrace watching the wildlife). You can walk straight out of your door into the hills.

  • The Woodpecker Cottage is amazing! The Cottage is set in beautiful grounds with access to the idilic countryside surrounding it. Gyles & his Wife are amazing hosts & are more than happy to help. We are very thankful of the time we sent there & are looking forward to booking the Cottage again.

  • We stayed for a week in Kingfisher cottage which had everything we needed, including an excellent kitchen and a shower I think I would've made the 190 mile journey for on its own. The cottage is in a beautiful garden on a hillside in the Irfon river valley with craggy peaks all around. It's a short drive into Llanwrtyd Wells and the main A483 yet the place seems remote enough to get completely away from it all. But it also has wifi and Sky TV so there's no reason to feel completely cut off. There is lots of opportunities for walking, mountain biking, road cycling, fly fishing or just relaxing in the surrounding area. You will be very well looked after and won't want to leave.

    Ian2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place to stay, relax and explore. The cottage is gorgeous and so clean, we'll be going back!

  • Gyles is what you call a superhost. The communication is spot on and the location of the lodge is peaceful and in the middle of the nature. Perfect for cyclists or walkers among us. It isn't the only lodge on the property of Gyles, but if there are other guests we experienced that they were in the same relaxing vibe as us. Gyles and his wife made us feel very welcome, have a chat and had some great tips for area! One of the kindest host I have had in a very long time. We would recommend this to all of our friends.

    Jack2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to stay. Quiet valley where you only hear the birds with a river at the bottom of the garden. Everything you need, great shower and generous hosts.

    Derek2019-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great hospitality, easy to communicate with and an absolute recommendation if you want to unwind and relax. The valley is a superb spot amidst nature, the Woodpecker Lodge does it's best to accomodate this as well. Great shower and kitchen and thanks to the fire place lovely evenings amidst the stars if the weather is kind. Both hosts are very easy to get along with, friendly and helpful and with great recommendations for the area. Can't fault a thing. It seems you even get homemade cake when arriving \o/ If you want to visit Wales, this is the spot! Thanks again for the lovely time.

Troed-y-Rhiw in Welsh means foot of the hill. The cottage is located in the beautiful Irfon Valley. Suitable for families, couples, individuals to enjoy a comfortable and relaxing stay in a well equipped cottage. Stunning walks straight from the front door. One mile outside of Llanwrtyd Wells, Britain's Smallest Town. During the summer holidays we are a minimum 7 night stay and check in is on a Friday. Please note there is a £20 charge for dogs.
Llanwrtyd is an old Welsh hamlet with a 12th century Church. Once an area for not only sheep farming but prospecting, lead and zinc deposits of quite high grade were found. Forests were planted in the 1950 and now provide wood for the building industry. One mile from the hamlet is Britain's smallest town, Llanwrtyd Wells, the Victorian Spa destination, it has shops, pubs, restaurants, a garage. Llanwrtyd Wells hosts the World Bog Snorkelling Championships each August and many other challenging events over the year. The area is fantastic for walking and mountain/road biking. Mid wales has a fantastic collection of Castles to visit and even a gold mine!
  • A nice cottage about half an hour's walk from the town. Great for walks around the nearby forests and mountains. Outstandingly generous, hospitable, and helpful hosts. Comfortable and good-sized cottage.

Looking forward to going back, thank you Katie and Roger.

  • I would recommend staying at this place, lovely scenery and a quiet pleasant area of Wales, the apartments are an ongoing project for Kerryn and her partner but perfectly good enough to stay in as they are. We would defiantly stay there again.

  • We had an excellent stay here for 2 nights while we were in town for the Man v Horse running event. The place was lovely, especially the bed which was very comfortable and the shower which was great. The race was in llanwrtyd wells so the location was perfect as was only a 10 min drive away. Kerryn recommended The Prince Llewelyn pub close by and we eat there saturday night after the race, have to say the food was fantastic! Overall i thoroughly recommend this place for anyone wanting to explore this part of wales. We are planning on returning next year to run man v horse again and would definitely book to stay here again.

  • A little piece of heaven! The cottage was clean, tidy and just the right size. Beds were comfy. I also brought my GSD and she loved it. The location is super tranquil and all you can hear is the wildlife. Lots of great hikes on the doorstep and the local town is lovely too. It was a perfect weekend away! The homemade cake was also much appreciated!!

Bronfelin is a traditional Welsh cottage, located in the beautiful Irfon Valley. Suitable for families, couples, individuals to enjoy a comfortable and relaxing stay in a well equipped cottage. Stunning walks straight from the front door. One mile outside of Llanwrtyd Wells, Britain's Smallest Town, home of the Bog Snorkelling . During the summer holidays we only let for week long bookings starting on a Friday, unless it is a last minute booking.
Tastefully restored tradition Welsh Cottage, with Welsh slate floors, easy to operate Rayburn range to cook on, central heating and the warmth of a wood burning stove, ensure your stay will be comfortable and cosy.
The area around the cottage is very rural, the hills scattered with hill sheep farms and forestry, further up the Irfon Valley the forests give way to the open moor land of the Cambrian Plateau. The Cambrian Plateau is interlaced with steep sided valleys where dramatic rivers flow, and reservoirs have been established. The mountain lanes meander you through this stunning landscape.
  • Great little cottage near some lovely walks. Stayed for New Year and went to the unique town celebration! Lovely and cosy with the Rayburn and wood burner. Roger & Katie were very helpful and accommodating.

  • Faultless, would recommend anybody stay here

  • A deceptively spacious and well-equipped cottage, in the peace and tranquility of the beautiful mid-Wales countryside. A plethora of fantastic walks - for all ages/abilities - straight from the front door, so one of the most dog-friendly places in which we've ever stayed. Katie and Roger are friendly, helpful hosts and we felt that the cottage was exceptionally good value. We have all fallen in love with the area and will return soon.

    Joanne2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cottage- very clean, beds comfy with crisp bed linen. Great walks from the cottage and the walk into is about 20 mins. Loads of lovely places to visit - would highly recommend the cottage and the location - thank you Katie and Roger.

Abernant Barn has been beautifully renovated from a 100 year old stable block into a luxurious holiday home / cottage in the heart of Wales. Wonderfully secluded and set in 8 acres of private pasture, bordered by the River Irfon on one side and the Nant Cerdin on the other. The property includes fishing rights on the banks of the Irfon which runs only metres from the property.
The accommodation includes underfloor heating throughout and large lounge with a wood burning stove for those cosy evenings. Outside an under cover decked area with sunken hot tub provides space to relax and BBQ whatever the weather.
The village of Llanwrtyd Wells, the smallest town in Britain is only a 10 minute walk away and is well served by three pubs and a local store/garage. The local railway station is a 5 minute walk from the barn where a regular service on the heart of wales line will take you towards Builth Wells or Llandovery.
  • The barn is in a beautiful location. The wood burner made the rainy evenings nice and cosy and the hot tub is great. This is a lovely place for a relaxing weekend.

  • The property is in a fabulous location, the photos show the property perfectly, we had a fabulous holiday, Bernard is a great host.

    Alan2019-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • A great long weekend with friends!! The barn is modern and stylish with a hint if character with exposed brick walls etc. Very nice. The log burner is a great facility, I wish it was cold enough to warrant using it. There is also a bbq, but it wasn't warm enough to use it! We loved the speakers in the ceiling, a brilliant touch, especially with the bifold doors open when relaxing in the hot tub... Perfect! Very scenic! A short walk from amenities. A premier shop with basic essentials. A couple of pubs to choose from, I'd recommend the Belle Vue for friendliness and food. The chicken wings were excellent! A perfect trip for us and we would happily return if coming back to the area! Natalie & the squad

  • What a great place! Fantastic location. There was enough to keep us entertained just in the grounds. Lovely stream nearby to paddle in.

‘Gwedd y Glyn’ is a beautifully and sympathetically restored traditional stone barn with a wealth of oak beams and many contemporary touches. This luxury holiday home, which can sleep up to ten adults, is a restored traditional Welsh barn originally built from local stone and oak. This spacious accommodation is beautifully presented, stylishly furnished and completed to a very high standard.
  • We had a wonderful long weekend here to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday. The place is spacious, clean and in a beautiful location. The hot tub was a huge bonus and the views were incredible. We had a nice walk down to the river despite the rain, and a stunning drive to llyn brianne.

  • Great hospitality, location and facilities are amazing. Would definitely come back. Recommend 100% for all ages

  • Gorgeous house, very spacious. Amazing facilities (especially for kids) loved the hot tub, beautiful views. Would definitely book again. Rooms were all clean and tidy. Yummy welsh cakes on arrival. Excellent host, always responded very quickly and very helpful. Have already recommended to friends and family :)

  • We are a large group of 24 year olds , and we visited Iwan's place the same time 2 years ago - we loved it so much we came back. Excellent house, very clean and stylish, lots of room - the big living room and dining room are a must for us so we can all gather together. Iwan was very responsive for anything we needed help with. Susan (Iwan's mum) also kindly showed us round the local heritage museum which was excellent and well worth a visit. Thanks for having us back, we hope to come back again at some point!

  • We stayed as a family of 8 adults and 3 children and had plenty of space for all who were there. We loved the wonderful family touches such as toys, high chairs and cutlery for the children. The hot tub was at temperature as soon as we arrived which was perfect and we spent a couple of evenings there. Although the dash back to our rooms up the stairs was long when it’s chilly 😀 The hospitality was wonderful and we were checked a couple of times to see if we had everything we needed. The cakes we were given on arrival were perfect with a cup of tea once we arrived. We would all absolutely recommend a visit.

    Stephanie2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Gwedd y Glyn for a long weekend as a group of families with young children and babies and we had a magical time - we were all talking about booking in again for next year! The accommodation is spacious and well appointed with everything we needed (including plenty of sofa space and dining space, and everything we needed for the kids - potties, stools, toys, stair gate, cot, high chairs, bath toys, kids table and chairs....). Susan and Iwan were at hand throughout the weekend and went above and beyond to ensure our stay was as relaxing as it could be surrounded by so many kids (including helping with the nappy bins!), and also went on a hunt to find an extra large pot to cook our Saturday night curry for us. Mawr ddiolch i chi! We absolutely loved using the hot tub, especially to watch the sun rise through the misty mid-Wales mountains, and we enjoyed going for walks in our wellies through the hills surrounding the barn. I would highly recommend Gwedd y Glyn to groups of families/friends looking for great quality accommodation set amidst a peaceful and beautiful location. We look forward to returning soon! Diolch Susan ac Iwan am y croeso twym-galon!

  • We spent 3 days at Iwan’s beautiful house. The check in by his mum was very comprehensive and she clearly has a passion for the house and area. The house was perfect for three families with 6 under 3’s, with plenty of space for the kids to run around and a huge amount of amenities that lots of young children need. The hot tub was lovely after a busy day. We would definitely recommend to others. Thank you for having us Iwan!

Nuthatch is an airy three bedroom cottage with a south facing terrace leading into three acres of gardens and woods. It is three miles up the Irfon Valley from Llanwrtyd Wells, famous for the Man V Horse race and the sport of Bog Snorkelling. The Cottage is in a very quiet rural location with the opportunity to walk and cycle or mountain bike Cambrian Mountains on quiet country roads and tracks. It is in an area protected for its wildlife surrounded by forests, mountains, rivers and lakes
Our cottage is in a very peaceful and quiet place surrounded only by nature. Just three jmiles down the road in Llanwrtyd Wells you will find good pubs and a couple of restaurants. You will enjoy our three acres of oak and mixed woods which are part of the garden - ideal for forest bathing!
Our neighbourhood is the Cambrian Mountains - a vast wild area between Snowdon to the North and the Brecon Beacons to the south. Just a few metres down the road you can find an ideal wild swimming spot called the Washpool where the farmers used to wash their sheep in the River Irfon. There is another wild swimming spot called Wolfs Leap just up the valley which we will be happy to show you.
  • I literally can’t rate this place enough. Not only is it a feast for the eyes no matter which direction you’re looking in, the cottage is perfect too. It’s warm cozy and spacious with everything you could possibly need. Not too far away from a very cute and friendly village but far enough that you can choose to be completely cut off if you choose to be. It’s absolutely the perfect place to recharge your batteries and reconnect with yourself which is exactly what I wanted to do. I have a very large dog and he was welcomed from the second we arrived. He throughly enjoyed he’s stay too. I will definitely be coming back...it’s just beautiful!

Nuthatch Cottage is a romantic little cottage - to comfortably sleeps two guests in one bedroom with a double bed. All on the ground floor. Truly a Bird Lovers and Garden Lovers Paradise in the remote and secluded Abergwesyn Valley with miles of uninterrupted walking or numerous trails for mountain bikers - all from the door. Perfect too for Star Gazers with absolutely NO light pollution. Cottage acommodation all on the ground floor. Come through the main front door shared with the owners into a small orangery and the front door to the cottage is there. The open plan kitchen/sitting room as a well fitted kitchen with an electric cooker, microwave and grill; a fridge and a washing machine. There is a dining table and chairs. Two very comfortable arm chairs, an electric coal effect fire, a wooden settle and a flat screen TV with the full SKY package. The walls of this ancient and quaint cottage date back to the 1600's are very thick; hanging in front of the sitting room window is a bird feeder - where there are numerous different species of birds completely unafraid of humans. Utility room (next door) shared with the owners has a freezer. Bedroom 1: The bedroom has a double bed. Bathroom: The shower room has a spacious shower, hand basin and toilet The Orangery is the entrance hall, (so called because of the shape of the glass roof) is a comfortable area to take off muddy boots etc or maybe to sit and have a coffee. There is ample parking beside the cottage and the gardens here are just an absolute delight and you can usually spot the owner outside whatever the weather. Garden furniture with plenty of places to rest while walking around. Useful information: Bedlinen and towels provided. Electricity and air source under floor heating inclusive Full central heating Sorry not suitable for Pets - by owners choice Ample parking Safe storage for mountain bikes SKY TV with full package DVD player WIFI available Telephone for emergency calls Fishing available by arrangment with the owners A very generous welcome basket on arrival. Above the cottage is a lovely upper garden with the most stunning views down the river valley and then there are the enclosed gardens in the front of the farmhouse, with an oak framed summer house (this is probably my favourite part of the garden) - with the river running along the valley behind. The gardens here at Tyn-y-Cwm are now part of The National Garden Scheme (NGS); This pretty little cottage is reached either over a wooden bridge or through the ford; the picturesque stream is where both trout and salmon spawn. The upper garden has water, bog and winter gardens with all types of unusual and interesting plants and trees. The main garden has a spring garden with witch hazels, primroses, snowdrops, hellebores and later meconopsis poppies and primulas. There is a beautiful walk way through the centre of the garden with many different species of roses and clematis to a pretty wooden summer house where the owner keeps his cricket memorabilia; this is where we were served a wonderful "cricket tea". There are raised vegetable and flower beds with a wonderful mix of all sorts of flowers, vegetables, fruit trees and bushes where visitors are welcome to walk, wonder and talk to the very industrious owners who also keep free range chickens. With Dinas RSPB Bird Reserve just up the Abergwesyn Valley this truly is a bird lovers' paradise. Near the property was one of the last nesting sites of Red Kite, before their wonderful recovery over the last 20 years to now becoming a common sight almost throughout Britain. The orangery has two wicker chairs Bird News Do take a look at the photographs recently added to the website of the eagerly awaited return of some of the many migrant birds, especially those the welsh oak woods are so famed for, pied flycatcher, redstart, wood and willow warbler, chiff chaff. tree pipit and the iconic cuckoo. At Nuthatch Cottage, April is a real highlight month when they normally return. Then in May and June it is nesting time. This year there are 28 nesting boxes up in the garden, around the house and in the adjoining oak wood. Last year there were pied flycatchers, redstarts, great tits, blye tits and pied wagtails nesting. The owner monitors them and sends the results off to the British Trust for Ornithology. I would thoroughly recommend this as a perfect place to stay for bird lovers. This is a brilliant place for both mountain bikers and walkers alike with numerous trails from the door. For anyone interested in beautiful gardens and horticulture this is the place to visit; there is so much to write-about I cannot take the space! The owners say "When we go on holiday it is difficult to find anywhere as nice as home" and I would agree! The cottage is perfect for visitors who would like complete peace and quiet - the owners are very unobtrusive; the cottage is all on one level so good for anyone with walking difficulties but not big enough for a wheel chair. The cottage is only 2 miles from Beulah with a village pub The Trout Inn, the village shop and garage. The cottage is down the picturesque and little known Abergwesyn Valley with its hanging oak woods, rushing rivers and forests. There are mountain bike trails just up the lane and numerous scenic drives for visitors. A wonderful place for walkers with numerous walks all around - the owner would be very helpful on knowing the local walks and it is only seven miles (hard) walking over the mountain to The Elan Valley - where by road it would take much longer. A real secret hide-away -the house has had many famous visitors and has been a location for a BBC 4 Play for Today. Beulah 2 miles, Llanwrtyd Wells 8 miles, Builth Wells 12 miles, Brecon 22 miles, Hay-on-Wye 31 miles, Llandovery 19 miles, Hereford 50 miles. If you would like to speak to someone who has visited this property please ask for: Elizabeth, Ann or Ceri Amenities: Bed Linen & Towels, toilet, double bed, TV, microwave, internet connection, shower, garden, Fishing, Heating, Wireless Internet, Parking; Bathroom, Bedroom, Kitchen

A beautiful Art and Craft styled Guesthouse offering a comfortable, friendly and relaxed stay in the heart of Wales. Explore the Cambrian mountains and Brecon Beacons, an area renowned for spectacular castles and stunning views or have a go at one of the eccentric sports organised in the town during the year.
Llanwrtyd Wells is Britain's smallest town, home of Bog Snorkelling and many other eccentric events such as the Man Vers Horse race. Located on the southern side of the Cambrian Mountains it is 30 mins drive from the heart of the Brecon Beacons. Llanwrtyd Wells is the approximate mid point of the Heart of Wales Line Trail, a long distance walk following the route of the scenic railway line.
  • Excellent, relaxing place to stay. Roger and Katie make you feel at home instantly and made the extra effort to make us a really early breakfast as we needed to start our day early. We also had bikes with us and storing them was not a problem. Wanted to stay longer!

The Old House at Llwyn Madoc, is a completely self-contained wing of the manor house - the original and oldest part of this historic home - owned by the same family for over 400 years. You will have exclusive access to this beautifully refurbished part of the property. It is an ideal spot from which to walk, bicycle and discover this unspoilt area of Wales, or simply to enjoy the peace. The towns of Builth Wells, Rhayader, Brecon are all within 15-20 mins.
The Old House has its own front door at the rear of the main house. The main bedrooms are on the ground floor and upstairs the very spacious living area makes the most of the beautiful views.
The best of our area is the tranquillity and the scenery. Walking; with isolated lakes and waterfalls around every corner, Llwyn Brianne and the Elan Valley close by, cycling, wild swimming, canoeing, riding, tennis (on the court in the grounds). This is the place to do them. Or you can unwind, pick up a book, switch off from the rat race, watch the Red Kites. Charming old spa towns, a delightful lavender farm to visit, historical houses, beautiful gardens, plenty of good coffee shops, are all within striking distance. A little further afield, and my particular favourites, are the National Botanic Gardens for Wales, Aberglasney House and Gardens. The back road to the beautiful Welsh coast - wiggly but stunning - goes directly past our house and is well worth the drive.
  • Our family had a magical Christmas in the property, Miranda was the perfect host and quickly answered any questions we had. The house was beautifully clean and well equiped to meet our needs . The rooms where all spacious and cozy especially the living room with the wonderful log burner. The property is located on a beautiful private estate attached to a very large house, the grounds and views are truly breathtaking. we loved our time at The Old House and it gave us a base for some wonderful family memories.

  • Miranda’s house was just brilliant and she was an absolutely wonderful host and very helpful. The house is set on marvellous grounds and full of great scenery. Lots of parking space in the yard and spacious rooms. It is an old house but very clean and charming. Part of a big mansion with great characteristics. Shower facilities do need a little maintenance but nothing too major. Everything works fine. I would definitely suggest looking at the night sky outside the house as the visibility is great and you can see plenty of stars, the Milky Way band and if you are lucky shooting stars too. The location was also great as we used it as our base for our road trips across Wales. I would definitely recommend Miranda’s place.

This glorious cottage is set in a very remote, stunning position looking across the Irfon Valley to the Eppynt Mountains and the Brecon Beacons mountain range beyond. The Old House is a self-catering holiday house, the wing of Llwyn Madoc Manor House, it is approached along a private drive into the estate - when we visited there were banks of daffodils and then suddenly as you turn a corner you catch sight of this beautiful Manor House Llwyn Madoc. The house has been lived in by the same family for over 400 years and really is a great place to stay with family and friends who want to be able to enjoy a self catering house. The original farmhouse dates from the late 1600's and the main house from 1747 and then over the centuries more being added on until now a beautiful manor house with lovely mature gardens, lawns and a walled vegetable garden. With over 2000 acres of parkland with ancient trees, woodlands, hills and deep rocky sided valleys, truly an idyllic place to stay for lovers of the countryside; an absolute paradise for ornithologists . The views from The Old House are panoramic and glorious - looking down over the walled gardens, the water meadows and the beautiful stocked lake with the forest beyond. The wild River Irfon flows through the valley - with several pools for Wild Swimming and of course miles of uninterrupted walking from the door. The small hamlet of Beulah is only a mile from this very remote wing of the Manor House - there is a pub serving local food The Trout Inn and a garage, post office and village store - that seems to sell everything. There is the lake with a boat (used at your own risk) for trout fishing along with the the tennis court are a massive added bonus to able to use when staying on this fine country estate. So when you pack don't forget your racquets, tennis balls or your fishing rods. Accommodation Sleeps 7 - 4 bedrooms, 3 toilets, 2 bathrooms The ground floor has 3 bedrooms: Bedroom 1: The master bedroom has a double bed Bedroom 2:Twin beds Bedroom 3: Twin beds Family bathroom with a bath with a shower over, hand basin and toilet Separate toilet A washing machine and tumble dryer and room for boots and coats. The whole house is centrally heated with a wood boiler supplemented by oil. All the wood is from the estate. Upstairs to: A spacious and pleasant kitchen and dining room, a good place for everyone to be able to sit and chat whilst preparing a meal; a window seat again making the most of the picture postcard gardens. The kitchen is new with an electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and a freezer. There is a traditional Welsh dresser and long dining table. With a pleasant and spacious sitting room with plenty of comfy sofas and chairs (For winter bookings there will be a new and efficient wood burning stove due to be installed Autumn 2018).There will always a great supply of dry home grown logs from the Estate. The house has some interesting prints and paintings, this room has large windows with views over the garden, the lake and down the wild valley to the forest beyond. A second bathroom with a bath, hand held shower, hand basin and toilet. Bedroom 4: A single bed. On the drive up to the house a couple of hundred yards out of Beulah, we paused as we drove past one of the prettiest churches I have ever seen in Wales. The church is called Eglwys Oen Duw, built in Victorian times as an estate church in an elaborate Gothic style, unusual for rural Wales. This little church is a shining jewel in this stunning countryside. There are numerous scenic drives - following Drovers Roads and The Monks Route. One of my very favourite is along the Irfon Valley and then over to the magnificent Abergwesyn Valley- with the wild and rocky river running along the valley bottom - there are several perfect places here for wild swimming Wolf's Leap being one. This exciting drive leads then on to Devil's Staircase, over to Tregaron and on down to the West Coast of Wales. The Elan Valley again is within easy reach with miles of interesting drives exploring these great lakes. This is the true wilderness of Wales - The Cambrian Hills - you could probably walk all day and hardly see a soul except the occasional farmer. Again there are numerous cycle trails for keen mountain bikers. Nearby Llanwrtyd Wells is an interesting "smallest town in the UK" with numerous Green Events. This is the home of The Bog Snorkelling Championships (i-dents on the TV) and The Man versus Horse Race. Useful Information: * Pets to be discussed - small dogs only * Oil central heating * Ample wood supplied for the wood burning stove * Home produced vegetables offered when in season * Wifi available * TV with Freeview * Ample parking * Safe storage for mountain bikes * Spacious gardens - belonging to the owner - visitors can explore within reason and the owner offers home produced vegetables and fruit when in season and available. * Small garden with a BBQ designated for guests * Tennis court * Lake for fishing stocked with brown trout. * Pheasant Shooting in season (to be discussed) * Bring your pony/horse - wonderful riding country (to be discussed with the owner) * Brilliant off-road bike trails in Irfon Valley Beulah- 1 mile, Llangammach Wells: 5 miles, Builth Wells: 10 miles, Llandrindod Wells: 15 miles, Brecon: 20 miles, Llandovery: 16 miles, Llanwrtyd Wells: 17 miles, Aberaeron: 35 miles, Aberystwyth: 37 miles, Elan Valley: 20 miles Amenities: Bed Linen & Towels, Dishwasher, 3 x toilet, double bed, TV, microwave, internet connection, single bed, garden, Wood burning fireplace, BBQ grill, 2 x Pair of twin beds, Dryer, Fishing, No Pets Allowed, Heating, Wireless Internet, Parking; 2 x Bathroom, 4 x Bedroom, Kitchen

My place is close to Llanwrtyd Wells in the heart of Mid Wales. With stunning views, this beautiful home has been very sympathetically restored to its former glory and maintains most of its original features. You’ll love my place because of the peace and tranquility, the comfy beds, the cosiness, the large kitchen and seperate traditional dining room. My place is good for families (with kids) and big groups.
This is a stunning property with ample space for up to 11 people over three floors. There are 6 bedrooms (1 x twin; 1 x single; 1 x double with en suite; 1 x king; 2 x king with en suite). There is a fully equipped kitchen, a seperate utility room; a traditional dining area and a seperate lounge. In addition to the en suite facilities there is a main bathroom; a seperate shower room and a downstairs shower/wc. We have ample off-road parking for up to 5 cars and a patio area with external furniture.
The property is located approximately 1 mile from the town of Llanwrtyd Wells in a picturesque and quiet valley with stunning views. Whilst set in a remote area, the proprty has two neighbouring properties so there is not a lonely feel when you stay.
  • Elin was extremely accommodating and helpful even before we arrived at the farmhouse. Upon arrival, her mum was very welcoming and did everything she could to help us settle into our accommodation. The farmhouse was much larger than expected and although we were a large group, there was plenty of room for us all to not feel cramped! It was extremely clean and the kitchen was everything we needed to feel at home. Although the location was a little remote, it was great to get away from the city and the location of the farmhouse was perfect for watching sunrises and sunsets.

This isolated cottage is set in stunning countryside surrounded by forestry and fields. Set at the top of a hill it enjoys splendid views across the Irfon Valley to the Eppynt Mountains. The only neighbours are sheep and rabbits. Red kites circle overhead and fishing is available on request. A perfect place to get away and unwind but also only half an hour away from Hay on Wye, the Elan Valley & the Brecon Beacons. A perfect place to relax and recharge your batteries.
The holiday cottage is totally secluded, approached through a wood and offering wonderful views of the Eppynt. The cottage is surrounded by private farmland and woodland, which you can walk through at your leisure. Fishing is available on request and if you enjoy stargazing then the view at night is amazing.
The heart of Wales railway line stops in Garth. Allowing you to travel between Swansea and Shrewsbury and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Viaducts, forestry, mountains and wild rivers.
  • Great place for a quiet weekend. Well equipped kitchen and a spacious living area with two great bedrooms. Lots of thoughtful touches - milk, cake, blankets - made the place even more impressive. As two couples, we had a wonderful time.
