Places to stay in Llanthony
In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole and that means comfort.
Thank you so much to everyone that has stayed and left such lovely reviews. Yes it's a small space but everyone seems to have enjoyed staying. We've certainly enjoyed it ourselves a couple of times (well we had to test it didn't we!) Nowhere else can you stay with a view like this from your comfortable bed! We are only 15 minutes from Hay on Wye and the perfect place to stay during the Hay festival. The Hobbit House has a wood-fired cooker so that you can cook your own meals and there is running water just outside. A large sofabed folds out to a full-sized double bed with a deep comfortable mattress. All bedding etc provided. Dinner and breakfast can be provided at extra cost - how about a nice hearty stew in a slow-cooker ready for you to arrive, with fresh bread warming in the Hobbit House's wood-fired oven? We have a number of great walks starting from the doorstep and a rural pub over the road. (please note that the pub is generally only open at weekends) PLEASE NOTE: 95% of people have loved staying here, but it isn't to everyone's tastes. it IS small. it does have a sofa bed rather than a proper bed. The bathroom is down in our house and although it is for your exclusive use, it is a 30 second walk away. This is glamping, not luxury. But if that suits you then you'll have an amazing time.
A Hobbit House in the middle of the beautiful Brecon Beacons. I think that's pretty unique don't you?!
  • Lovely break away. Really peaceful location. Cute space to stay in and lots of information given.

  • We spent 2 nights in the hobbit house and it was fantastic! Tin supplier fire wood which was amazing as it was freezing cold!!! Any young couples looking for a quirky weekend away and like having adventures this is the place for you.

    Jason2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The hobbit house really is small, but it's also gorgeous. We were very cosy once the fire was going and had everything we needed. We cooked all our meals on the wood-fired stove which is a wonderful way to cook! We cheated and used our camping stove for coffee in the morning when we weren't patient enough for the fire to get going. The location is superb, with beautiful views and excellent walks right on the doorstep: we didn't quite make it up Waun Fach due to high winds but had a wonderful walk nonetheless culminating in a delicious pint in the Dragon's Back pub. And there are loads of fantastic walks within a short driving distance. Talgarth is just a short drive away for getting in some supplies, and there is a short but beautiful walk with impressive waterfalls right next to the town. The whole area was pretty muddy when we were there so be prepared if it's been raining!

  • What a fun place to stay, one of a kind! We loved spending the night in your Hobbit House, especially our 3 year old who had a blast! She especially loved Bear and helping keep an eye on the fire. It was a great addition to our adventures in Wales, just walking up to it was exciting with our tour guide, Bear the dog! The milk and chocolate was a lovely surprise too, thank you very much for a unique place to rest our heads.

  • Amazing place to stay. Tin is very informative and quick to respond. Thank you for a great stay

    Mark2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place, truly magical. The surrounding areas are fabulous and Bear is a super extra host! The place was super clean, the fire was fab and the brochures were really helpful. Would definitely recommend a local pub called the Farmers Arms for some reasonably priced but amazing food :) 10/10 will stay again!

    Charlotte2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • I sent my brother and his wife to the hobbit hole as a present!! They absolutely loved it.

    Rochelle2020-02-13T00:00:00Z

We moved to the Brecon Beacons to enjoy the good life. We have a little bit of land and a few animals. We're planting as many trees as we can for heating - over 2,000 so far! we also have a hobbit house! This room has an en-suite shower room and includes exclusive use of a large outdoor wood-fired hot tub!
On the side of a Welsh mountain in the Brecon Beacons but easy to find and with good road access to the local area. We have a number of great walks starting from the doorstep and a rural pub over the road. (please note that the pub is generally only open at weekends) This is a ground floor room with en-suite shower room. The room has a double bed and also a pull out camp bed for a third person as needed. There are a couple of steps though so please contact us if you have special requirements. We also have our very own our "hobbit house" which is also available to rent!
Where better to stay than the beautiful Brecon Beacons?
  • The house was as described, a home away from home. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend away here. The local knowledge booklet in the room was great, we did one of the walks suggested straight from the door of the cottage. The hot tub is amazing. Bear was adorable and very well behaved. Would recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing, yet homely stay.

    Eleanor2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A home from home, we felt so very welcome at Tin’s place, but also had complete freedom to come and go as we pleased. Perfect place to explore the local area, or relax and enjoy the amazing hot tub! X

    Karin2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great space, warm cosy and excellent for a real escape (we had 0 phone signal) which was refreshing and relaxing. Great space to chill out and access to the hot tub

  • Beautiful location. Ridiculously friendly hosts. Would definitely stay again!!!

    Caitlin2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Tin and Rosie’s home is beautiful and so welcoming! If it wasn’t for storm Dennis we would have taken a dip in the hot tub! But we will come back when it’s a bit sunnier!!

    Megan2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely time staying here, family were lovely and welcoming and we thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub, perfect way to relax.

    Nicole2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place! I was looking for a quiet spot to relax and unwind with my wife for her birthday. On arrival there is an info pack and obviously the WiFi code 😎. That is all we needed! We spent time exploring both Crickhowell and Brecon. Unfortunately the weather put an end to any hill walking but that was expected. The listing describes this place superbly. The hot tub was excellent and although the air temperature was cold 🥶 the water was perfect. We didn’t bump into our hosts but we did meet “Bear” their dog. He is just a bundle of energy and so friendly. We recommend this place if you’re looking for a quiet spot. A car is needed to get about which was advised in the listing so everything was perfect 👌🏻

    Gareth2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Tin was a wonderful host and nothing was too much trouble. We felt really welcome and comfortable during our stay. Lovely hot tub and very sweet dog and cat which was just the icing on the cake! As it says, the location is by the main road, but as a light sleeper it didn’t bother me at all. Thank you again, Tin!

Guest reviews:- "Beautiful house in an even more beautiful location." "Ty'r Olchon could not have been better. Beautiful location for peace and quiet, and lovely walks along the river, through the valleys, fields, and forests. The house was perfect - cosy, warm, stylish and the home cinema was an extra treat for down time." "This place is a hidden gem, wow what a find. I took my family of 10 adults here for my partners surprise 40th Birthday and we had the most amazing time. Both the house and the cottage are spacious, clean and well finished. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need and the table sat 10 adults very comfortably." "Stunning location, beautiful house with excellent BBQ area for summer, and huge log burner for winter! : guest review December 2017 "Beautiful very well equipped home We had an amazing time. Mesmerising views . Entertainment lounge with log burner cinema system and games . Superb kitchen with an Aga . Pleasure for those who enjoy cooking." : guest review October 2017 "Had the most fabulous week here in October. Incredibly cosy getaway. All creature comforts are present in the house. Awesome views across the valley! Hygge time!" "House and location are quite simply stunning. Can't fault this place. The local walks are magnificent" " "Amazing house and location for a family weekend away. The house was comfortable and warm and had everything we needed to cook with. The log burner kept us really toasty in the evenings whilst watching films on the home cinema set up. We walked from the house on the public footpath with dog and 4 week old baby in a sling across the fields into Longtown, stopped at the pub for a drink, and the shop for supplies and walked back via the road. We also headed over to the other side of the valley to explore the landscape, less than 10 minute drive and then on foot again up the mountain. Very relaxed. The views are amazing." "A beautiful house tucked away in a peaceful and scenic situation. No noise or light pollution made this a very relaxing location. The wood burner was very welcome on a cold January weekend, as was the Aga, meaning the house was always very pleasantly warm and cosy."
This is a relatively undiscovered part of the UK with beautiful countryside, but with easy access to excellent restaurants and pubs, and culture and retail therapy in the book town of Hay-on-Wye and Abergavenny. Longtown village with its well-provisioned shop, post office and pub is five minutes drive away. Within 25 minutes drive are the Walnut Tree & Hardwick restaurants offering high quality cuisine in relaxed settings - book in advance! The magical Llanthony Abbey is in the next valley. The historic Marches towns of Ludlow, Ross-on-Wye, Ledbury and Hereford are within easy travelling distance. SOME OF THE LOCAL SITES OF INTEREST: Llanveynoe Church - 15 minute walk along the lane or through the fields and along the public footpath. Longtown Castle - in the middle of the village. Llanthony Priory & Cwmyoy Church - both in the next valley to the west of the cottage - a must when you are so near. St. Margaret's Church, 15 minute drive - very beautiful medieval church with a wonderful carved Rood Screen. Abbey Dore Church and Monastery - 20 minute drive. Red Daren/Offa's Dyke - directly opposite the house :- Drive for 10 minutes along the Mountain Road (the one you were told not to take just before you first arrived), over the river and up and over the cattle grid into the National Park - until you reach the parking place directly opposite the house. Within a few hundred yards before, and only a few yards after the parking place, there are two public footpaths leading up the mountain. The first is easier and will take you towards Llanthony Priory, the second is steeper and will take you in the direction of Hay Bluff. Cat's Back/Black Hill : quickest way to the top of the ridge and great views - 10 minute drive to the car park at the bottom of the Hill. Abergavenny - nearest market town (with a Waitrose, Aldi, Morrison, and Tesco), 25 minute drive on the route to Cardiff (which is only an hour away, traffic permitting, if you would like to spend some time in a surprisingly great little city). Hay on Wye - the book town - retail therapy, good food and pubs. The drive, from Ty'r Olchon to Hay-on Wye, taking the shortest route on the narrow road which climbs up to the highest point, gives stunning views and takes about 25 minutes. FOOD AND PROVISIONS Longtown Village:- Shop & Post Office; The Crown Inn Ewyas Harold Village, 15 minutes drive away has a well stocked village shop and post office, fish and chip shop, butcher selling very local fresh meat and good frozen fish, pub - The Dog; pub with restaurant - The Temple Bar. The Bridge Inn and Restaurant at Michaelchurch -15 minute drive - nice pub, good food. Fine restaurants within 25 minute drive The Walnut Tree, 20 minutes drive just off the road to Abergavenny The Hardwick, Raglan, 20 minutes drive MEDICAL & DENTAL GP at Ewyas Harold Dentists at Abergavenny Chemists at Abergavenny Accident & Emergency at Abergavenny (Nevill Hall Hospital) or Hereford
  • Micheal is a amazing host and thank you for everything. You have a amazing place simply stunning views will be coming back during summer time

    Rilwan2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Exceptional AirBnB. Michael is a great host, who communicates clearly and often, giving clear and easy to follow instructions. Ty'r Olchon is an absolutely amazing house, with everything you need for a perfect weekend!

    Beth2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Michael's place is an absolute gem set in stunning countryside scenery. We visited when storm Jorge was raging, which scuppered our walking plans a bit, but it didn't matter because it meant that we got to spend more time in Michael's fantastic house. There were 9 of us altogether (without cars!) but we managed to explore Llanthony Priory, The Walnut Inn and The Bridge Inn and meet the most friendly local farmer over one weekend - all with the fantastic service of the Celtic Minibus team! I couldn't recommend them more if you're thinking of visiting without a car. Michael was an excellent communicator from the start, answering all of our questions promptly and helping us with a shopping delivery. The house itself is the most relaxing and cosy space with all the amenities you'd ever need. Thank you Michael!

    Senwelo2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage and annexe were as expected, exactly as described and did not disappoint. Despite no cleaning fee the house was immaculately clean. We had everything we needed to cook, except if you plan to arrive on a Sunday you will need a few essentials. The grounds and views at Michaels place are spectacular. We arrived amidst Storm Dennis, so it was very noisy in the cottage, thankfully the beds were the most comfortable I have ever stayed in, so we did sleep eventually. We managed a walk to the waterfall from the cottage, but note that the farm nearby had removed some signs, so you will need an OS map. Overall a great stay, I would return, in fact it would be perfect for Christmas. I would recommend the cottage and Michael as a host, informative and easy to deal with.

    Sandra2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Michael's place is, in a word, fantastic. Perfect for a weekend getaway with friends. The only slight drawback is that the range takes a little getting used to. The pictures do not do the place justice, it is a real gem and I'd stay again in a heartbeat.

    Stephen2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Really stylish place, great location, withstood Storm Ciara! All my guests commentated how lovely the house was. Recommend this place to large groups of people and would stay again.

    Katie2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home in a stunning location. Highly recommended. Thank-you to Michael for all your handy tips that you left us. We enjoyed our little walk to the waterfall and our lunch in the local pub.

    Marie2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Michael's place was my first Airbnb and he was very patient in helping me set up my initial account, along with explaining detailed directions and an overview of the house rules (which are by no means arduous or restrictive). The house is set in a stunning location with Offas Dyke and the Black Mountains just outside the front door. We were a party of 5 walkers, however the house would easily absorb a party of 10 without feeling overcrowded. Our trip was at the end of January with snow on the higher hills (spectacular views from the house) yet the house never felt anything but warm and inviting. There are many little touches that make your stay very much home from home and I felt that Michael was there at the end of the phone or email should ever I need him...….. We had a great stay and could not recommend the house, location and Michael enough. BA Somerset

  • I can't comment on the glamping pod as we were upgraded (thank you!) to the railway carriage. The carriage was lovely. It included a shower and toilet with heaters which definitely helped during our cold and wet November night stay. The hot tub was spot on. We went for food in the local pub (which was about a 5 minute walk) and it served lovely pub grub. Would definitely recommend staying here to friends and family! Thanks for a great stay!

  • A lovely spot overlooking some stunning scenery. Extremely responsive and helpful from the minute we booked till the minute we left. The hot tub was just magical under the stars. The pod was extremely clean and had absolutely everything we needed to make the most out of the weekend. Cannot recommend enough.

  • WOW!! looking for peace & quiet? the perfect couples break? somewhere to just sit back, relax and enjoy the view? this is the perfect place. Perfectly sized, clean and well thought out. Plenty of room for cooking, book reading and sleeping. The bed is SO comfy and the spa shower is an amazing add on (although make sure to turn the spa jets on AFTER the door is closed hahahaha). Anyways, we booked super last minute but both Rob & Sophie were so kind and lovely through our stay. They very kindly also lent us some oil to cook with. Lots nearby with a small drive and beautiful views. Hot tub is an amazing add on too and was very kindly lit for our arrival by the hosts. Perfect in the summer or winter, as underfloor heating keeps the whole pod toasty. Bed lifts up for clever storage and has everything you need from cooking essentials to books to read. Will 100% be staying here again and will recommend it to everyone!! 10/10 thankyou so much guys xx

  • We couldn’t have had a better stay over the New Year. The location is remote and we cooked our own meals most nights but that was exactly what we wanted. Highly recommend if you’re looking for somewhere to switch off for a few days. Hot tub is great and Sophie pre-lit it for us for when we arrived. Would definitely stay again.

    Laura2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our time in the pod, the views were absolutely stunning and the cat was adorable!

Minutes from Hay on Wye, in spectacular open countryside Grove Villa nestles under Black Hill. Gaze out from the huge studio. Watch Netflix by the wood burner in the ancient parlour, play table tennis and darts in the games room, football and croquet on the vast lawns, and paddle in the stream. 5 bedrooms sleeping up to 12 people.

The region abounds in freehouse pubs, castle ruins, and wonderful walks, long and short.

  • An amazing getaway. Warm and cosy cabin with a sheltered hot tub, perfect for a night of relaxation. The Crown Inn, a pub just a small walk from the site served us an excellent meal. Would definitely recommend for a couples getaway and i am sure we will be back soon!

  • A lovely place for a weekend away, we stayed nice and warm despite another storm and there was enough space for the three of us. The hot tub was a proper treat and there are glorious views.

Gorgeous traditionally built Mongolian yurt with a wonderful wood fired hot tub. A truly stunning and utterly unique location for your holiday. Moonlight Yurt was built by traditional craftsmen in Mongolia. Situated in its own river meadow in the Black Mountains Brecon Beacons National Park. Glorious views and easily accessible hill walking from the front door. We are very fortunate in the Llanthony Valley to have been designated as a dark sky reserve which means breathtaking night skies.
Situated beside a small mountain river in the spectacular Llanthony Valley. The jewel in the crown of the beautiful wild Black Mountains. Get back to nature in comfort. There is a wood burner inside the yurt and wood fired hot tub close by. Sleeps up to 2 adults in a deliciously comfortable double bed and up to 2 children on futon beds. Well behaved dogs welcome (up to 2). A charge of £10 to bring your dog is payable on arrival. This lovely yurt is a wonderfully calming place to stay. Fantastic walking straight from the door. A truly romantic and special place.
Farming valley in the Black Mountains. Brecon Beacons National Park. Stunning countryside, castles, rivers and mountains.
  • Remote and romantic! We had a wonderful time getting away everything. Beautiful hills right on the door step and there's nothing better than sinking into the hot tub in the evening! The yurt was toasty with the log burner and the kitchen well equipped. A great stay!

    Rachel2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • This was everything we were looking for and more! The yurt was beautiful, clean and cosy. The location was very rural which is what we wanted, peace and quiet! The hot tub was a dream and the local pub was friendly with great food! Would 100% recommend if you are looking for a little break away from the busy towns :)

    Mollie2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • We needed a detox from work and needed somewhere that we could completely disconnect and we did exactly that. This is ideal for people who need to switch off and have a busy mind and I've left completely destressed. The Yurt, facilities and hot tub were perfect and the stars at night just made this probably one of my favourite Air B n B stays to date. We're going to book again for next year!

    Greg2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • The Yurt and surrounding area is mystical especially with the mountain view. When we arrived we were greeted by 3 friendly sheep, which was sweet. Didn’t get to meet Rachel, however her husband came over on our second day to check we were alright which was much appreciated. The Decor inside the Yurt was done to a beautiful standard very homely and cosy with high quality and comfortable bedding. There were pots, pans, cutlery and plates, all kitchen items you need to cook a nice meal. Heat the hot tub up from the morning because it takes a good few hours, but once it is warmed up it is very relaxing and calming especially in the evening when the sun is setting. One down side though, I couldn’t find a lock on the door so I was a little frightened at night. We would come again for sure a lovely break away from the city.

  • Llanthony valley - beautiful scenery and easy access to many sites/places Site - peaceful, beautiful and private Yurt, hot tub, kitchen, shower and toilet - basic but everything you need for camping We had a relaxing stay, one of outdoor living with our 3 and 4 year old. Kids were free to roam and outside for 5 days straight! We loved our time there Thanks

    Dale2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful, peaceful place to stay, I stayed for a week and it was wonderful. Great and caring hosts just made it all that bit more special. You may struggle to leave the meadow once you are there but it is also a great base for walking in the area.

    Hazel2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Idilic location, in a gorgeous valley. Perfect for walks and a complete break from the rush of the modern world!

    Amy2019-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed staying in this beautiful romantic yurt. Located in a really peaceful private meadow, it is so nice to get away from signal and electricity and enjoy the surrounding wildlife and welsh valleys. Hot tub was perfect in all weathers, even in the torrential rain! Everything we needed was there, such a great place to get away from it all.

The Shepherds Hut at The Grange is a unique way to get away from the hustle and bustle of any busy or city life, with no phone signal and very limited WiFi, it's not like anywhere you've done before. There is optional breakfasts, lunch and evening meals during season time and the shepherds hut is private and snug perfect for any family, couple or individual to get away and relax.
The Shepherds Hut, is a small, simple and cosy space surrounded by beautiful sights and things to do. With one double bed and one single bed there is a small stove in between, on which you can roast marshmallows. It also has a decking and chairs where you can enjoy the ever changing welsh weather and often see our horses in the fields surrounding.
Situated between Abergavenny (The Gateway to Wales) and Hay-on-wye (a famous book town), the Shepherds Hut is peaceful, secluded and often described as "the perfect get way". Falling asleep under clear, star studded sky's and waking up in the heart of welsh countryside, it is free of any city or town noises and you will often catch a glimpse of things you have never seen before, owls in the night sky, farmers shearing sheep or horses being herded to the field. This little get away is an experience like no other.
  • Wow does that log burner keep you warm! Very rustic, exactly what you expect from a shepherds hut, to protect from the elements but with super comfy bedding. Very atmospheric stay, especially listening to the howling wind outside, but warm and snug inside. Woke up to wandering sheep & a couple of friendly ponies to bid me farewell.

    Benjamin2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Loved my short stay here, perfect place to wait out the rain. Cosy and had everything I needed. Would love to stay again!

  • Rebecca’s place is incredible, the location could not be better, you are literally surrounded by nature! The hut is small but it has everything you need. Would definitely stay here again.

  • Beautiful, peaceful and secluded. More than hospitable, the whole grange family is thoughtful and welcoming.... Great chance to really live in nature and take in the wonder of the valleys!

    Leo2019-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • I am strongly recommending that place for anyone who loves being close to nature. I will be definitely coming back in the future!

    Michal2019-04-07T00:00:00Z
  • Surrounded by beautiful scenery, this a perfect place to stay if you are looking to escape the rat race of everyday life. The hut was idyllic- very clean and comfortable, the fire quickly heating up and making it feel very cosy. Thank you for the tip in exploring Hay on Wye also- really easy to get to and well worth a visit. I will definitely be back!

    Jenna2019-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is basic but cosy and in an amazing location. You’ll wake up to birds singing and a burble of a nearby stream. The wood burning stove will keep you warm at night. Perfect for a getaway, great host, would definitely recommend

  • Given that I gave Rebecca not even 24 hours notice, you have done an amazing job of hosting. By far the best host I have had on AirBnB. Plenty of local tips, cabin is spotless & an extremely welcoming family. Thank you again and the cake you made was delicious!

Flagstone Cottage has a lovely open fireplace and is on a quiet remote farm in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The views are quite wonderful. There are miles of walks in the hills. Two pubs are in walking distance. Llanthony Priory Hotel has a cosy cellar bar, and it is lovely to sit outside in the summer and enjoy the surrounding ruined abbey. The Half Moon hotel allows dogs.
A delightful cottage, ideal for two adults in main bedroom which has a king size bed, and two children in a small mezzanine. There is a single bed tucked under the stairs in the living room if needed. The cottage is simply designed with old beams, stone walls and wood and flagstone floors. Built into the old converted stone barn, it is the larger one of two cottages. It is on a quiet farm and has views overlooking the beautiful Llanthony Valley in Brecon Beacons National Park. It is warm with underfloor heating in winter and a log fire to warm you after a long walk in the surrounding mountains. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking your own meals. Upstairs there is a bathroom with a good shower over the bath. The main bedroom has a king size double bed and above is a mezzanine for two children which is accessed through the wardrobe and up a secret staircase. It is galleried so not entirely separate from the main bedrooom. A bed downstairs in the living room can be used as an alternative for friend or child The space is suitable for four maximum. Please note bookings start (preferably) from Thursday (for the weekend or week) or Monday (my cleaning help is on those days) . Please ask about different arrival days.
The views are spectacular. The neighbours are over half a mile away. There are no street lights so it is great for star gazing, and apart from the occasional sheep baa-ing there is nothing to disturb the peace. There are pubs to walk to (closed weekdays in winter)and excellent restaurants a few miles away.
  • Clare was a great host and we loved our stay

  • Such a lovely snug cottage; the perfect spot to shelter from storm Dennis and escape from the world! Very comfy and has everything you need, especially the log fire. Very clean, good shower and located in a beautiful area with loads of good walks. Everything is just as described. Clare also kindly provided useful information and suggestions for dog friendly local pubs for dinner. We had a really lovely stay. Thank you.

    Marie2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place to stay. Clare is fantastic host, providing some lovely touches such as fresh flowers to leave you feeling very welcomed. The cottage has great views, is very comfortable and is accessible to excellent hiking. It is one of the best Airb&b places I have stayed in. We will definitely be back

  • Clares cottage was a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of every day life! Very relaxing with everything you need to make your stay cosy and comfortable. Really great bed and bedding (very important!) lovely clean bathroom and great kitchen to cook meals! We had a wonderful few days sat by the fire when it rained outside. Clare was friendly and approachable and just around the corner if we needed anything. One thing to remember is there’s no wifi in the cottage or phone signal. Perfect for us! Loved visiting the sweet ducks in the pond outside Clares cottage. Would recommend!

  • Nice fireplace and cozy cottage. Had all facilities needed to cook a full xmas dinner. It worked great for us as completely off grid (no mobile or internet). Look fowards to visiting again in summer months as amazing scenery.

  • Great cottage, nestled on the edge of the black mountains. Easy access from the A40. Perfect space for a couple or a small family, dog friendly and the walks into the hills are from the doorstop, 2 pubs within walking distance, suits people wanting to get away for a long weekend and truly switch off (no signal, in the cottage)

  • Flagstone cottage is beautiful and the location is magnificent. Such a peaceful place and lovely surroundings. Clare was so helpful and gave us advice for local walks and provided us with a cot and high chair for our little one. We will hopefully visit again. Mike, Pip and Maddie

Gaer Cottage is one of two cottages converted from a stone barn built in the 18th century. This peaceful retreat is set in 45 acres of ancient meadow and woodland in the foothills of the Black Mountains within the Brecon Beacons National Park.
Gaer cottage is surrounded by woodland and nature. It is lovely to be able to walk out of your front door on to private peaceful paths and to explore the countryside. Enjoy birdsong during the day and starry skies at night.
Gaer cottage is in a secluded valley in the Brecon Beacons National Park. It is on National Cycle Route 42 and close to the Cwm Coed-y-Cerrig Nature Reserve. Good local pubs include the Crown at Pantygelli and excellent restaurants can be found in Abergavenny - which also hosts an annual food festival.
  • The Gaer was a lovely cottage and very conveniently location. The cottage was clean, warm and very well set up. Belinda was a lovely host and extremely helpful! Would highly recommend

  • Photos does not do this place justice! Beautiful little cottage, which felt bigger in person than on the photos. Plenty of room for us to get around the table in the kitchen. Fresh cake and eggs on arrival. Lots of gorgeous scenery to explore, really recommend climbing to the top of the mountain. Fantastic views at the top! Our dog loved it and even had a spare field for him to roam around in. Five stars. Hopefully be returning soon!

  • I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here, both hosts were friendly & helpful, & a delicious cake was waiting in the fridge! The location is perfect for exploring the area, & relaxing there with the chickens. A peaceful, quiet spot, comfortable house & spotlessly clean. I love the area so will definitely be going back to Gaer Cottage again next time.

    Tracy2019-08-29T00:00:00Z

  • The photos do not do the cottage justice, it was a really homely space to stay in. The woodlands and gardens are fantastic, and there is so much to do close by to do.

    Michelle2019-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Gaer Cottage, we received 6 free range chicken eggs and a freshly baked cake upon arrival! There are some amazing walks in all directions, including one that begins right from the back of the grounds and another just across the road. There is a small shop & 2 dog friendly pubs with food & drink within a 5 minute drive or 30/40 minute walk. Gaer is also dog friendly & Belinda was an amazing host, she made us feel all feel very welcome. We will definitely be visiting again!

    Rowan2019-06-28T00:00:00Z
  • Delightful host, top quality accommodation and comfort. Well equipped kitchen, where we were fine with four around the table enjoying those super fresh eggs straight from the chickens! The home made welcome cake was delicious too. Wonderful location as a base for walking in the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons. Very dog friendly. Dating back to 1752 this rustic Granary has been sympathetically converted to retain its original features. Perfect for chilling out or walking, set in our family farmland with direct access to Offas Dyke footpath. Dramatic high ceiling oak beamed bedroom with ensuite. Cosy low beamed kitchen/diner with wood burning stove. The sunroom/lounge makes the very most of natural sunlight with rural farm views.
The dramatic high oak beamed ceiling of the bedroom provides a unique space combined with the modern convenience of an ensuite bathroom. The cosy kitchen/diner (originally where corn was ground in 1752), has a range of modern kitchen appliances including coffee machine. The wood burning stove is available for romantic evenings in and the sun room/lounge makes the most of sunny days.
The nearest village is about a three minute drive away or a pleasant twenty minute stroll across the fields. The local village pub has a great restaurant or bar meals and is open every day.
  • My partner and I really enjoyed our stay at this beautifully unique barn conversion. The space was spotlessly clean and has all the necessary amenities. Fresh bread, jams and butter were provided (delicious, thanks!) as well as tea, coffee and fresh milk. The log burner made the space really warm and cosy as it was a chilly night. The hosts were very welcoming and were on hand to help with anything we needed. A very peaceful and relaxing stay in the Welsh countryside, I highly recommend staying here!

  • We travelled to The Granary in ‘Storm Dennis’ and so very glad we did. It was warm, cosy, spotlessly clean and filled with character. Caroline came over to welcome us, she is absolutely lovely and made us feel so at home. Fantastic location for walking from the door, across owners land to Offa’s Dyke trail past the very vocal donkey 😀 but we spent hours in the spacious sun room enjoying the antics of the hens, the sheep and the hawks soaring overhead. On a clear night we gazed through the roof at the amazing dark skies....incredible!! This place exceeded all our expectations. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

    David2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • We didn’t arrive until around 7pm. The host came out to greet us and explained what was in the house. She had already lit the fire so we were toasty warm straight away which was really thoughtful. There were also roses on the bed as it was Valentines weekend and roses in vases. The pub down the road we were recommended was brilliant. The pictures don’t do the place justice. We would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone. Perfect for a couples night away. :)

Kingfisher Camp is a romantic hideaway set in the dimple of a hillside of a small farm in the foothills of the Black Mountains. The hut is available for anyone who is content to cuddle up by candlelight and light the woodburning stove to get cosy, or spend a night out by the fire, cooking food and star gazing. The perfect space for anyone looking to self isolate in a special location!!
It's a tin hut, warm and cosy, tucked away from the world with stunning views. Previous guests have described it as the loveliest wendy house ever. It will accomodate a couple - or two good friends. It is all one room, with a sofa bed at one end and the kitchen department at the other. We do ask that guests bring their own sleeping bags or bedding (double sheet/duvet cover and pillow cases) and towels, and firewood. Everything else is provided for cooking etc.
We live on the edge of a fantastic village in the lee of the Black Mountains. There is a wonderful village shop - Hopes of Longtown - which stocks everything you could possibly need and more and caters for all types of dietary preferences, with a large focus on locally sourced food. There is the Crown Inn in Longtown and the Cornewall Arms in Clodock, well worth a visit, and the walking in the surrounding hills is unsurpassed.
  • Was a great experience! Arrived to a warm welcome from Amber and he husband. Everything there needed for a stay with plenty of wood. Views and scenery are stunning. Highly reccommend to anyone wanting to get away.

  • Amber's hobbit hut in the hills is truly wonderful. With the fire lit, we stayed warm and cosy despite the gales blowing outside. The futon bed was firm and comfy, the kitchen helpfully stocked with tea and other essentials, and the view from every window was breathtaking. We'll definitely be visiting again.

  • A beautiful quaint cottage with a personable touch. Gina is possibly one of the nicest hosts we’ve ever met and we travel a lot. It’s lovely to see just how much Gina takes pride in the cottage and the guests are very much forefront. We arrived to goodies, vino, chocolate, the best peach jam I’ve ever tasted, crisps (needless to say this didn’t last the night) and some gravy bones for our dogs. The cottage was toasty warm, beautifully presented and very much felt like home from home. The hot tub was a lovely touch, though the blistering winds not so much. The local chip shop was pretty good too. We were meaning to ask what cruise ship you went on?! A slideshow appeared as a TV screensaver, it looked lovely! We’ve done a few ourselves and love it! Thank you for having us <3

An off grid rural glamping retreat in a hand built oak frame cabin on the slopes of the Sugarloaf Mountain and spectacular views. Enjoy the cosy loft bed and glow of the wood burning stove, wood supplied. There is a posh compost loo and the bathroom is a converted horse box, plenty of hot water and bath with a view. Once there you will enjoy complete peace (no WiFi or signal here) amongst wildlife, a spring fed pond and barbecue area. Steep access down the field; you must be relatively fit.
Bluebell Cabin is on the slopes of the Sugarloaf Mountain in the Black Mountain region of Abergavenny. It is glamping heaven in a peaceful wild field of your own. The owners live at the top of the field. There is gas burner cooking, a barbecue, solar lighting and lots of hot water. The loft bed is a cosy space. An ideal place for walking, cycling, mountain biking, wild swimming or unwinding and getting away from it all within designated dark sky area status.
Forest Coalpit is a tiny hamlet in the heart of the spectacular Black Mountains. We are ten minutes from Llanthony Abbey, a great evening cycle with a welcome beer at the end. The Black Mountain Cycle Centre is ten minutes away with some great mountain biking. We have sheep on site and our cat (Jones) and dog (Spud) are both likely to pay you a visit.
  • Our stay was absolutely perfect. The cabin is beautiful and exactly what we needed to take a breath from our busy life. The little touches and added comforts made the stay even better. Truly the best weekend away we have ever had. The love and attention to the cabin pours out and stays with you. And that bath...!

    Melissa2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely and very relaxing spot. The cabin is beautiful and there are lots of lovely little touches everywhere like cosy rugs and blankets and a light that's perfect for reading on the sofa near the fire. I stayed for 2 nights alone and it was a perfect secluded but safe spot that is close to lots of lovely walks. Anne is a very welcoming host and ensured I had everything I needed. Would definitely recommend.

    Ruth2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • A really beautiful and thoughtfully put together place in stunning scenery. Anne is very helpful with tips for things to do and spud is also very friendly!

    James2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Bluebell Cabin is a wonderful little wooden cabin in a magical valley setting. With beautiful mountain and woodland walks nearby, lots of wildlife and very friendly and helpful hosts in Anne and Dean. Would love to come back again and definitely highly recommend to any couple looking for a quiet and rustic getaway in stunning location.

    Adam2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Blue Bell Cabin was an amazingly place to stay. Totally enchanting and extremely relaxing. Anne was a very helpful and welcoming host. Highly recommended!!

    Edward2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Bluebell Cabin for a blissful birthday weekend, it's a beautiful and cosy space for tranquil slow living. Everything you need to relax and enjoy is right here ... If it isn't, you probably don't need it (especially WiFi!). Particularly enjoyed toasting marshmallows in the fire, a brainwave extra touch! Will definitely be back...

    Justin2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic weekend. The hosts were very relaxed and the accommodation was fully equipped. We cooked outside on the BBQ and enjoyed baths looking out at the view. It is so peaceful and you can go for numerous incredible hikes straight from the door. Sugarloaf is highly recommended.

    Charlotte2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for two nights in this beautiful cabin but could have stayed for weeks! It's really spacious and comfortable with so many thoughtful touches - sofa, blankets, firewood, books and games. The solar lighting was just as good as electrical lighting and the hot water supply was reliable - the bath in the horsebox is a genius idea and so relaxing! Definitely climb up Sugarloaf mountain if you can, it's an easy but stunning walk from the cabin. We didn't bring a car, but arranging taxis from Abergavenny was easy enough (around £12). Anne was kind enough to drive us to Crickhowell at the end of our stay as well. Finally, if you like dogs you can hang out with the lovely Spud, an added bonus :)

The views of the Black Mountains are exceptionally beautiful from this lovely cottage in a peaceful farm location. There is a log fire and underfloor heating in cold weather. Ideal for a relaxing escape. Wonderful walks from the doorstep in the Brecon Beacons National Park. 2 pubs Llanthony Priory Hotel with cellar bar in walking distance and Half Moon, Llanthony.
The accommodation is Inspected for quality and graded with four stars by Visit Wales. A perfect location for a walking holiday. The lovely cottage is on a quiet farm with spectacular views overlooking Llanthony Valley in Brecon Beacons National Park. Oak Cottage is one of two cottages within a converted stone barn with original beams and woodwork. It is open plan with underfloor heating in winter and a natural oak floor. A log fire welcomes you after a long walk in the surrounding mountains. You can lie in bed and see the flames in the wood burning stove. There is a double bed and a comfortable single sofa bed in the same open plan space. There is an spacious shower and the kitchen is well equipped for cooking your own meals. Outside there is a table and seating in summer, for relaxing and enjoying the view. WIFI is available just outside the cottage, but not inside due to thick walls and satellite internet which is expensive to use. There is no phone signal, enjoy the break ! (The owners house phone may be used for urgent calls.) Bikes can be kept in the barn or in locked shed if required
The views are spectacular both in winter and summer. Apart from one other holiday cottage, and Clare's house nearby, the neighbour's are over half a mile away. There are no street lights so it is great for star gazing, and apart from the occasional sheep baa-ing there is nothing to disturb the peace. There are many footpaths nearby which can take you on challenging treks up on the mountains or quiet walks in the valley. The hills are covered in purple heather in August and are often snowy in the winter. There are pubs to walk to and excellent restaurants a few miles away. Clare, the owner is an artist and has a gallery to view. Hay-on-Wye, famous for second-hand bookshops is a wonderful drive over the Gospel pass. There are some wonderful old churches and castles to visit. It is ideal for cyclists and walking enthusiasts.
  • A very lovely stay at the cottage. Very clean and well equipped. Beautiful surroundings too. Will definitely stay here again.

The downstairs sitting room, with sofas and an enormous TV, is reserved just for you. If you choose a cooked breakfast, you can have it served in your room or in my kitchen looking out over the fields. Well behaved dogs are allowed in the the room... but please... not on the furniture or bed, or in the bath! Scrummy homemade Welsh cakes on arrival; come and say hello.

We have great walks from our door, including Offa's Dyke, plus fabulous local churches and castles to visit if they're your thing. For foodies, there are renowned - and Michelin starred - eateries, notably The Walnut Tree Inn (Shaun Hill) and The Hardwick (Stephen Terry). We are within easy reach of Cardiff, Bristol and Hereford, plus the Brecon Beacons National Park, which is also an International Dark Sky Reserve. Our starry skies are breathtaking. All the countryside activities... riding, canoeing, fishing and more... are available locally.

  • A stop-over for me between North Wales and Cardiff and a chance to meet up with some nearby friends. What a lovely surprise! Beautiful, serene location and Shauna and Terry had fantastic recommendations for places to eat in Hereford. Due to the flooding, i was a little worried about traveling around in my little city car. Shauna actually offered me a lift (as she had a more suitable vehicle dor the climate!), as she was going into town! Breakfast selection lovely and a very relaxed attitude (you can eat in your room or a dining area). The best bit? Possibly the most comfortable bed I've slept in at a B & B. Cannot recommend enough - will definitely be returning.

  • Great spot away from everything just be careful driving onto field and getting car stuck as we stupidly did in the dark. Hannah's father in law came to the rescue the next morning and we were on the road again in no time. Reccomended for a getaway there is nothing here except solitude

  • Had an absolutely amazing weekend at the pod! Highly recomend to those who are looking for a weekend getaway from the city.

  • The Pod was an interesting place to stay in, nearly camping but cosily warm and dry. Located next to a stream and perfectly placed for our steep walk up to Offa's Dke path. Capel Y Fin is charming, with it's tiny chapels. Our hosts were very supportive and kind.

    Jill2019-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • The pod was so cosy. We stopped off here during our walk on Offas Dyke. Surprisingly easy to find considering it’s in the tiny remote village of Capel-Y-Ffin. Hannah was great with communication and she even stocked the fridge for us after we ran out of food on our walk. The pod itself is incredibly cosy. The hot shower was an added bonus. It was so cosy and quiet I actually slept for 12 hours! If that doesn’t say it all I don’t know what does. Thanks for having us. Highly recommended.

The Glamping Pod at The Grange is a unique way to get away from the hustle and bustle of any busy or city life, with no phone signal and very limited WiFi, it's not like anywhere you've done before. There is optional breakfasts, lunch and evening meals during season time and the shepherds hut is private and snug perfect for any family, couple or individual to get away and relax.
The Glamping Pod, is a small, simple and cosy space surrounded by beautiful sights and things to do. With one double bed, it also has a decking and chairs where you can enjoy the ever changing welsh weather and often see our horses in the fields surrounding.
Situated between Abergavenny (The Gateway to Wales) and Hay-on-wye (a famous book town), the Glamping Pod is peaceful, secluded and often described as "the perfect get way".
  • I had a great stay in the glamour pod, the rural location is really beautiful.

  • We would definately recommend this as a perfect place to get away from the busyness of life. We went to the Potting Shed for 3 nights with our small Spaniel and hibernated from the world. There was no signal on phones in the accomodation so no phone distractions. While we were there the weather was quite stormy but the Potting Shed was lovely and bright and warm inside and felt very cosy in the evenings. When we ventured out for a walk there was lots of fields surrounding for the dog to run around in. The kitchen was well equipped so we had everything needed to stay in and cook meals, although there was a very nice looking pub about 30second walk away. Thoroughly recommend. Thank you Brenda! Pip, Dan and Daisy x

  • This has become our favourite retreat spot now, we absolutely loved our stay here and wished we could’ve stayed longer. The Potting Shed is stylish and cosy. The kitchen had all the stuff we’d need to cook for ourselves, but there’s also a lovely pub at the end of the lane that serve great food and beers & wine. We can’t wait to be back!

    Johanna2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Such an amazing beautiful space...in an amazing beautiful place. Such attention to detail with beautiful little luxurious touches...including the delicious Welsh cakes...such a treat! Loved the local pub...literally 2mins walk away. Fantastic staff...lovely ambience...and amazing food!!!! Can't wait to come back....thank you so much Brenda.

Little Loft is a bright, sunny, well equipped private studio apartment with a small terrace, garden and stunning mountain views: It has a lovely elevated setting with a babbling brook. There's a great village shop and 3 pubs within walking distance.
Little Loft is a studio apartment in the apex of an oak framed barn, built in 2007. It has its own access up a garden stone staircase. A rocky stream flows down a gully through the gardens and separates Little Loft from the main house, thus providing privacy. An oak framed bridge provides another access. The loft has its own private elevated garden and a small, decked terrace built over the roof of a small house—bats. This terrace leads into Little Loft via a lobby, which opens on to a simply furnished space with a bamboo floor. It has a very comfortable king-sized bed. There's a well-equipped kitchenette (with steamer, microwave, toaster, kettle, and Foreman grill, multi cooking pot e.g. slow cooker, fryer, roaster, etc.). NB No hob or oven! There is separate modern shower room, with restricted height by the wash hand basin - the shower is a large rectangle and of course is full height. There is broadband internet, although it is on occasion slow. Mobile phone signals are patchy, improving, but sometimes not available at all. Little Loft is most suitable for two people, but could accommodate an extra adult or two children. There is a private garden with outside seating above Little Loft
Little Loft is set in a stunning landscape on the English side of the Welsh Border. The view from the Loft window flows down to the Monnow River at the bottom of the valley before sweeping up to the mountain ridge that bisects the landscape. This ridge is part of the Offa's Dyke Long Distance Footpath and its summit separates the pastoral hedge lined meadows of England from the more mysterious rolling wildness of the Black Mountains in Wales. It is a magical borderland, dotted with ruined castles, abbeys, and ancient churches, a spot for lovers of nature, for doers and explorers, and for dreamers and thinkers. There are many great options for dining out, and within walking distance there are three pubs, two of which have restaurants. There's no best time to visit; spring, summer and early autumn are all festival times in the market towns. May brings the Hay on Wye literary festival; August Brecon Jazz; and September the Abergavenny Food Festival. Musical events happen regularly and there are small independent cinemas in Hay on Wye and Abergavenny and a multiplex in Hereford. Abergavenny and Hereford have lively theatres.
  • Awesome place to stay. Daughter and I had 3 days of chilling time. There is a double sofa bed in as well as the double bedwith plenty of spare bedding should you require it . Snug and warm. Loved the home made bread to welcome us with . Highly recommended- we visit the Brecon waterfalls several times a year and they are only 50 minutes away

    Frank2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay. Was really nice to get sent information about the local area before our stay and the freshly baked bread when we arrived was a lovely extra! Gorgeous area, really clean studio which has everything you need in it and within walking distance of a local shop and pubs. Thanks! Ps- the local pubs don't take card so take cash with you

    Danielle2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Really great hospitality, great base to visit the Brecon Beacons and to get out in the countryside! The loft is separate form the main house so there is lots of privacy. We went to the Crown in the evening and it was a great local pub with plenty of good food options.

    Cameron2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely time. Kate was lovely and made us feel very welcome. The extra touches were really appreciated. Little Loft is set in a beautiful place close to local pubs and places to explore. A very warm, cosy and stylish little getaway. We loved every minute. Thank you.

  • Quaint and cozy, great views and well located for exploring the Brecon Beacons and surrounding towns. Kate was very welcoming and even presented us with a loaf of freshly baked bread. Would recommend.

  • Super cosy accommodation in a beautiful setting, with many amenities provided and some very thoughtful touches. The Hayloft had books and information about the local area which was very helpful. Kate was an excellent host and communicated information and directions ahead of our visit.

    Darren2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Charming little place in a great quiet spot. Would highly recommend for a quiet weekend away

    Luke2019-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • The Little Loft is very quaint and perfectly formed. With everything you would need for a perfectly comfortable stay. It was warm and cozy and very clean. The location is amazing with outstanding views even on the most gloomiest of days. The directions that were offered but Kate were accurate and we had no problems in finding it and there was parking on site. It was central to where we wanted to be and easily accessible. I have no doubt there are lots of walk on the doorstep which i would like to explore, when i go back. There was outside space also which is an added bonus, although we didn’t have the opportunity to use it (weather and time of the year). I would thoroughly recommend this accommodation.

COSY MOUNTAIN BOTHY (SLAP-UP BREAKFAST INCLUDED) ON OFFA'S DYKE PATH 1,200 FEET UP IN BRECON BEACONS NATIONAL PARK—JUST 45 MINS FROM THE PRINCE OF WALES (SEVERN) BRIDGE *CORONAVIRUS—sorry, but we are not taking bookings until UK government travel restrictions are lifted, probably July at the earliest. After that, please do send enquiries and we look forward to welcoming you as soon as possible.
Fancy escaping to real wildness this Spring? Only 20 mins from Abergavenny and 10 from a pub, this super-romantic hideaway high in the Black Mountains is for anyone who loves fresh air, giant views and toasty cosiness after a day in the hills. Feel your ears pop as you wind uphill from the main road, leaving behind the fields and hedgerows of the valleys below, climbing up to another world of heathery peaks and dry stone walls where skylarks sing and merlins fly. Our bothy is simple, but super-snug: centrally-heated, with hand-made mattress and ticking linen on the double bed, shower with proper water pressure, 'thunderbox' mahogany WC, and a fridge for drinks. It sits in the walled garden that was the subject of Antony Woodward's award-winning memoir The Garden in the Clouds. Indeed, you may even wake up above the clouds: a wonderland shared only with a few sheep, wild ponies and the whaleback peaks of Sugar Loaf, Blorenge and Waun Fach poking through. We sit on the highest north-south ridge between here and the Urals in Russia, 2,400 miles away. In your room you'll find tips about, and menus from, all the best (and most characterful) local places to eat and drink—along with recommendations for walks, drives, road and mountain-biking (undercover storage available), plus other activities from paragliding to wild swimming. Most of all, though, this is a place for walkers. We sit on the most dramatic leg of Offa's Dyke Footpath: the 8-mile Hatterrall Ridge between Pandy and Hay-on-Wye. 'One of the most spectacular walks in Britain' said the Guardian—and there's no more magical starting point than our bothy in the clouds. WORD OF CAUTION: Living where we do, you may wake up in cloud, above the clouds - or with no clouds at all. Please understand that the weather can change rapidly in the hills and is not under our control! Also, sorry, but sadly our bothy isn't suitable for the disabled, infirm or young children. There are stone steps, uneven ground, steep drops and open water. Finally, you may encounter the odd spider or earwig - this is the country! Don't worry, we will happily move them if you don't want to.
Life at cloud height really is different. The joys of autumn and winter are exaggerated: cloudscapes are bigger; the air is fresher; on a clear day, you can see 70 miles, to Exmoor, the Bristol Channel, the Malverns, Long Mynd and Pen y Fan. Your first summit is 20 minutes away, up sheep-nibbled paths of springy turf - why not try it by moonlight? You can walk all day without meeting a soul, or you can walk for an hour and a half to a pint at Llanthony. If you prefer exploring lower down, nearby Crickhowell, Abergavenny and Hay-on-Wye all have markets, castles and great cafés, not to mention festivals and events throughout the year (Abergavenny Food Festival, Hay Literary Festival, Llanthony Show, Black Mountains Jazz Festival, Green Man, etc). You can drive one of the great roads of the UK, up Llanthony Valley, past a ruined abbey painted by Turner, to Capel-y-ffin, then up over 1,800 ft Gospel Pass to Hay. (This route was recently chosen by artist Jeremy Deller as his luxury on Desert Island Discs.) Meanwhile, hidden throughout the Black Mountains are all manner of delights, from mossy stone churches and bridges to giant Victorian dams, the Brecon & Monmouth Canal, and characterful pubs selling the incomparable Butty Bach beer.
  • The Bothy in the Clouds is a beautiful get-away in a stunning setting. The hospitality, thoughtful touches and breakfast were outstanding - we couldn’t have asked for better hosts! We’ll be back in the summer when the weather is kinder to us, but there’s nowhere better to bunker down for a wet weekend than in the Bothy.

    Constance2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had an absolutely wonderful time at the bothy. Verity is such a generous host who really thinks about the little touches that makes this place so magical.

    Veronika2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A classic "pictures don't do it justice" airbnb. Bigger than expected, the bothy is warm and cosy - strong heating + electric blankets. We arrived during the weekend of Storm Dennis and still managed to explore some beautiful surrounding areas - the Gospel Pass is a must drive. Verity offered many tips and breakfast each morning. A unique stay away from the world that you'll never regret having.

    Daniel2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Simply beautiful. The space is bigger than it looks on the pics and is very thoughtfully and stylishly designed. Very comfortable indeed. The location is breathtaking and the perfect base if you want to head out and explore the Black Mountains straight from the door. Really one of the best mountain retreats we've experienced.

    Edward2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful location, the chickens were cute. Verity is an amazing and accommodating host - she delivered pain killers for my hangover.. What a hero. Breakfasts were 10/10.

    Josh2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely incredible, if you want an amazing romantic location with the best hosts you could wish for then don't hesitate to book this. I've stayed in a number of Airbnb's and none have come close to this for cosiness and we really felt at home there for 2 nights.

    Michael2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • What an utterly magical place the Bothy in the clouds is! We loved everything from the stunning location to the finer details inside the little cabin. The photos don't do it justice and actually it was bigger than we expected (a tad more space always welcome). The shower room was thoughtfully designed and the water pressure is on point! Verity and her family really looked after us, giving recommendations and cooking us a splendid breakfast each morning to get us going for our hikes. Would highly recommend and will ourselves be back to stay in the future - if they'll have us?! :D

    Nicola2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Bob and weave up a countryside lane to find the charming bothy in the garden of Verity’s picturesque home. This is the perfect get away for a countryside lover, with breathtaking views and a lovely space with all the facilities you need.

  • What a lovely stay!! The property is spacious and gorgeous plus the views are stunning. The barn is really cosy with a fantastic log burner, thick comfy duvets and everything we needed for a great stay. When we visited it snowed unexpectedly which was really pretty! Rachel and Toby were great hosts and always nearby if needed. We’d really recommend driving over the pass to Hay on Wye, the most beautiful drive ever !! The priory up the road has a pub in the cellar which we would definitely recommend too. We visited with our one year old twins and it was a great space for them as well. All in all a lovely stay! We have made this place snug and comfy with high thread count linen sheets, comfy beds, thick fluffy towels and carefully chosen furniture and art. The views are spectacular and the walking and biking great. It is an eco barn, off the grid and powered by a wind turbine, solar panels and a back-up generator. Water is from a nearby spring (it tastes delicious).
The barn has direct access to the mountain behind so hiking and mountain biking is fantastic! Downstairs is all open plan, with a wood fired stove, kitchen, dining table and comfy sofas. The shower and WC are downstairs and there is an additional sink upstairs. Access to the bedrooms is up a stone staircase in the fresh air. We enjoy seeing the stars on our way to bed, but this might not suit everybody!
This barn is up a remote lane and steep drive. The view are spectacular up and down the valley and across to Table Mountain and Sugarloaf.
  • Amazing barn, in an amazing location. Had everything you wanted, the cosy fire whilst it snowed outside was perfect. 👌🏻

  • Amazing place to stay with views that cannot be beat. The house had everything needed and between Harriet and the care takers anything we needed was sorted out. We wanted a chilled quiet weekend and it was perfect for it. Welsh valleys at it best! We will certainly be back if!!!!

  • Absolutely stunning and a fantastic place to relax or set up base for great walks in the Brecons. Superb.

  • This is a wonderful gem nestled between two Welsh national parks. Peaceful with birdsong, cosy warm indoors with a great fire, and bonus sauna to boot! We loved staying here. It was a bit difficult to find (for future reference: search for 'Draen'), but the effort was worth it!

  • It was a lovely stay. The setting is stunning, beautiful views no noice or light pollution. The house is simplistic but in a good way it has a rustic feel to it. It’s great if you have a dog because the back garden is all fenced in so you know they are secure. There are so many walks to do right out from the doorstep. Great place for walking holidays. We did struggle to get up the drive. It had been raining allot so the cattle grid up to the drive was slippery it took quite a few attempts to get over it then got stuck again going up the hill my partner had to try push the car. It does say in the book in the house to give it a good run up and it does help. But it’s just something to be aware of. It made me a little anxious to go back out in the car again because it is so steep and tricky to get up the hill. But it’s all worth it once your up. Thank you for hosting us and also thank you for changing the gas for the boiler. We had a relaxing stay.

  • What a beautiful place, everything we needed for two nights. Walks straight from the property into the hills, an amazing walk to the local village with a great pub and river for a dip! Loved watching the bats fly around at night. We hope to be back!
