End of the Trail---er is located on the western edge of Baker, Nevada, with panoramic views of Wheeler Peak and Great Basin National Park. The interior is simple, clean and comfortable -- a home base for exploring the Park and surrounding area. A spacious private deck offers amazing views and a great place to dine and hang out. Lodgings are an 8 minute/5 mile drive to the Park entrance and one of the closest available. We are within walking distance of Baker restaurants.
The queen bedroom has a front row view across the sage to Wheeler Peak and Great Basin National Park. There are valley and mountain views, as well as nighttime stargazing from the twin bed in the smaller bedroom. If the one you rode into town with snores, or you just feel like getting up to read, the second bedroom comes in handy. Included in the kitchenette are the following: under-the-counter fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, coffee/tea, cutlery, dishes, cookware for the microwave, glassware and sink, dish soap, etc. On the spacious deck, complete with seating and dining area, there is a large, five burner propane grill with a side burner. There are pots and pans and implements for cooking on the side burner and grill. Full bathroom has one-of-a-kind shower/tub surround by tile artist and "Trail Boss", Patricia. Bedding, towels, soap, shampoo and conditioner, t.p. and hair dryer. Cooling and heating, plus secure WiFi included. The TV/DVD player receives a small number of channels and there's a selection of new and old western classic movies, and other titles to chill out with during your stay, but you may be just too busy exploring the Park and surrounding area to have time to watch any! Also, for use during your stay, we have a hiking map of the Park to lend you, as well as an assortment of books about the area, the stars, western birds, and a few other topics. **Please note that we cannot accommodate more than 3 guests, including children.
If hearing birdsong rather than traffic noise is preferable to you, our location at the western edge of town, away from Main Street and facing Wheeler Peak and the Park may be just right for you. Star gazing on the frequently clear nights from your spacious private deck is something all guests seem to enjoy. Moonlit nights illuminate the vast expanse of the valley with its unique shadows and mountain silhouettes. Baker is working on becoming a designated "Dark Skies Community" with minimal light pollution.
  • Stay here. It is the loveliest. You will be the envy of Wheeler Peak.

  • If you want comfy accommodations with stellar views of Great Basin National Park, this is the place to stay. The location is so convenient to the park entrance, Lehman Caves, the Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive and a multitude of lovely trails. Patricia met us as prearranged and explained all the details we needed to know. The kitchenette is small but workable and we prepared all of our meals there. A nice outside grill and propane stove expanded the cooking options. Patricia is a wonderful host and provided coffee, assorted teas, hot chocolate and a basket of granola bars. The loaf of banana bread was a special treat. Patricia genuinely cares about her guests and their comfort. Everything was squeaky clean. The large outside deck faces the park and offers several seating areas. It was a great place to relax and stargaze. We'll be back!

  • Patricia's place was the perfect, serene getaway I was seeking! Her place is in the absolutely ideal location for access to Great Basin NP, has beautiful views of the mountains, offers tranquility, and is supremely cute and clean. Great hot water pressure. Reliable internet. She gave me a hospitable welcome to show me what was important to know about the place, and even brought some delicious banana bread and granola bars (necessary for my hikes). I loved Great Basin National park, and my two night stay at Patricia's place just made it even better. I so appreciate her hospitality! Highly recommend exploring this lesser known gem of the country, and finding some peace and serenity. :)

  • Patricia thank you so much for a wonderful stay. Everything was just perfect! You are for sure a supper host. We hope we could come back again someday. I would highly recommend your place to anyone. The town was so quaint, and the people so friendly. We enjoyed Kerouac's, it was a nice place to eat.

  • My husband & I enjoyed our 3- night stay at Patricia's sparkling clean, charming,& cozy trail...er. She was very welcoming & walked us through her space. A convenient location to the Great Basin NP. Enjoyed the porch immensely. Highly reccomend!

  • We were impressed that Patricia drove out to wait for us at the trail-er, showing us where we could find anything we needed and how everything worked. Had a wonderful gas grill where we cooked several meals. Had fresh baked banana bread waiting--delicious. Very clean, lovely views, friendly neighbors.

    Doris2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • It's half of a large trailer so it's small but there's plenty of room for two people. I was alone so had no concerns about space. The kitchen area is small so if you're a gourmet chef who wants to cook great meals, this place may not work for you, especially since you will be limited to a microwave or a very nice gas grill on the deck. There's a small restaurant in town named Kerouac's that serves very good food so check that out. My main reason for being in Baker was to visit Great Basin Nat'l Park (about 5 or 6 miles away) and to photograph stars. I found that some of my best pictures were taken from the deck on the end of the trailer. It faces west so the Milky Way stretched out from the south and the Big Dipper lit up the sky to the north. For my purposes this was the perfect place. Patricia showed me around and gave me a loaf of home-made banana bread and a few granola bars as welcome gifts. I had a very relaxing stay and would return.

  • Met Patricia at 3pm and she gave us a tour and explained everything. The trailer is so cute and cozy. Extremely clean which is a big thing with me and good amenities. Night time was amazing sitting out on the deck watching the stars. I would suggest that you bring your own food because there are only 2 small restaurants in town. Drinking coffee on the deck in the cool mornings were so peaceful. Many thanks Patricia!!!

Renovated & charming 1920’s home 5 miles from Great Basin National Park. Master has king bed, attached bathroom, and 39” TV with Netflix. Second bedroom has king bed and 39” TV with Netflix. Converted office has a twin/twin trundle, crib and attached bathroom. (This room does not have a closet or outside windows.) Living room has 55” TV with Netflix & DVD player. Dining table for six. Kitchen is stocked with cooking essentials (no food) and coffee. Laundry room with limited basic supplies.
Baker, Nevada, is very remote without grocery stores or fast food chains. Please come prepared with food or to eat out at one of our local restaurants. Ely, Nevada; Delta, Utah; and Milford, Utah are all 1-1.5 hours away and all have a grocery store and at least one fast food chain; if your route takes you through one of those, you could grab last minute supplies there. We have four restaurants in our valley: 1) Great Basin Cafe - located in the national park at the visitor center by Lehman Caves. Their season usually ranges from mid-March through October and hours are listed as 8 am - 5 pm, seven days a week. They specialize in homemade pastries, breads, soups, smoke house meats, and specialty salads and sandwiches. They do have snacks and drinks and most menu items are available to go. 2) Keroauc's - located in Baker, less than a mile from the house. They are open for breakfast and dinner during their April - October season. Last I heard, their hours were Wednesday - Monday 7 am -10 am and 5 pm - 8 pm (with bar hours from 8 pm -10 pm); I would recommend checking their hours since they do plan to change them. They specialize in pancakes and pastries for breakfast and pizza and burgers for dinner. 3) The Border Inn Cafe - located on Highway 50, at the Nevada/Utah border (about five miles from the house). They are open daily from 7 am - 9 pm, year round. They have a good-sized menu and also have a gas station, small convenience store, bar, and small casino at their location. 4) T & D's - located in Baker, less than a miles from the house - directly across the street from Keroauc's. Their hours vary from day to day, so please check with them. They have a good-sized menu and also have a bar and very small convenience store attached to their restaurant.
  • The place was just fantastic and so close to the National park and caves! They had the BEST equipped kitchen we have ever seen in a rental! So many pots, pans, utensils, spices, etc! The house was so comfortable! We thoroughly enjoyed it! Nice and clean and loved the decor!! Thanks Donnie!

    Alena2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This was the second time I've stayed at Donnie's place and it was just a convenient and comfortable as last time. There were some problems with the internet service provider, but Donnie was able to work on solutions to get cable TV service. By the time me and my colleagues left, we had suitable internet service again. Donnie's place is a great place for the whole family to stay at Great Basin National Park!

    John2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Donnies home was immaculate and fully equipped. It had everything you could need, was modern, comfortable and had views out of every window. Loved the cute town of Baker too. And just down the street from the GBNP visitors center as well! Look forward to visiting in the summer too. Donnie was an excellent communicator and so kind too. Thanks for going out of your way to make our stay comfortable. Will be back!

    Danielle2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • This is a perfect house for a family adventure at Great Basin NP! A cottage with character, very clean, and an immaculate kitchen with all the needs to cook. We enjoyed our stay, location was perfect so close to the park. Will definitely be back again!

    Steve2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend. This is THE place to stay if you are visiting the Great Basin National Park. Very comfortable and clean home within minutes of the park entrance. Great kitchen with everything you need to prepare a meal. Grill provided which we used each night. Owner was very responsive. Remember if you are coming to Baker from the east, stop for groceries in Delta - about 100 miles before Baker. No grocery store and limited restaurant and lodging options in Baker especially in off-season. There is a convenience store with gas about 8-10 miles away at the Utah/Nevada state line.

    Michael2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • I highly recommend this place! Clean, well stocked, and equipped with everything you need to cook with! The owner, is excellent on communication! 5 stars recommendation! You won’t be disappointed!

  • Great place to stay while visiting Great Basin NP

    Todd2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Stay here!!! The location is perfect for exploring Great Basin National Park and within walking distance of town. Kitchen is sparkling clean and well equipped. It is even supplied with spices, coffee, sugar, aluminum foil, and many things to make it feel like "home." Bathrooms too were sparkling clean and supplied. Same with the laundry room which even had a few first aid items like bandaids. Communication was excellent before and during our stay to make us feel welcome and to offer support.

Vintage 1952 recently refurbished Trailer, with all new floors and new kitchen and bathroom. Whole place is for quests. Located 5 miles from Great Basin National Park and 1/2 mile from Baker. Wonderful views from all directions and very private with own drive way and lots of parking. Pets allowed
The area is quite large and space to have BBQ outside with view of beautiful apple orchard that often has deer grazing. There is room for dogs but must be well behaved.
The Great Basin National Park is exceptionally beautiful, and it has wonderful Lehman caves to explore. The local town of Baker has 2 restaurants both very good, a gas station and a post office. It is a remote area but very beautiful and uncrowded.
  • Lovely lodging so near to Great Basin National Park. Rowena and Rex are very friendly and have a wealth of knowledge about the area. Our first time staying in a vintage trailer...and loved it!

    Peggy2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed staying in Rex and Rowena's 50s trailer. It was rustic and quarters were small. But we expected that. It was quiet and located very close to Great Basin Nat'l Park. We enjoyed having breakfast in the sun on the trailer's entry porch and were able to do some star gazing at night. We very much enjoyed conversing with Rex who has lived at Baker for many years and is very knowledgeable of civic as well as natural history of the area. We had a lot of fun there!

    Gerald2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • We just spent a week in Rowena and Rex's restored trailer and loved the way it allowed us to experience both the place and people of Baker NV and its surrounding area. The spaciousness of the sky, mountains and valleys right outside the door filled these Buckeyes (from OH) with appreciation for its unique beauty. Our week was a collection of day trips and GBNP hikes to places we will never forget and meals at Kerouac's restaurant that were just as memorable. Our stay was capped off watching a full moon rise over the eastern mountains while visiting with Rex and Rowena on their patio. Their genuine hospitality and stories and perspective on what it means to live in their community was the perfect ending to a magical week.

    Russ2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • R & R was the perfect mountain get away! Woke up at 2 AM to see the night sky and it was breathtaking! Hosts met us in person and showed us around. Would stay again!

    Stephanie2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean and well kept! The nights are very relaxing listening to all the crickets, watching the deer in the orchard and gazing up at all the millions of stars. Definitely a little gem!!!!

    David2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • A really unique and lovely 1952 trailer with plenty of space for a family. Very close to Great Basin National Park.

    John2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • R&R Rest Stop is the perfect place to stay when exploring Great Basin National Park. Rowena and Rex are kind and welcoming. They checked in with us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed during our week stay. The Rest Stop is a short drive to the GBNP visitor center. We highly recommend a stay here and thoroughly enjoyed our time.

    Stephanie2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic hospitality in a great location for visiting Great Basin! The trailer was as advertised and I had everything I needed for my stay. The property is also quite beautiful, there were so many deer!!

Cabin 20 miles from the Great Basin National Park. Nice deck with gas firepit, 2 BBQs, and a magnificent view. One bedroom, loft, kitchen, and living room. Great wildlife and amazing starry nights. Telescope available for guest use. There is also a hammock available for our guests use.
Approximately a 20 minute quick drive to be at the Great Basin National Park. A lot of wildlife in the area. Beautiful view of Mt. Wheeler from the living room or deck. The night sky is like no other. View the milky way and millions of stars, and watch satellites pass over.
Cute cabin conveniently located near Great Basin National Park. Wildlife viewing, hikes into the park to see Bristlecone Pines, glaciers, mountain lakes, and tours through Lehman Caves. The cute town of Baker is located 5 miles from the park. Almost zero light pollution making the night sky amazing for star viewing. This is offered at the Park usually on Saturday night in the summer.
  • Great space if you like the outdoors but aren't up for camping. Very clean and comfortable cabin close to Great Basin. Sally and Terry were excellent hosts with multiple contact resources left and very easy to follow directions to the cabin. We had a wonderful time stargazing during the new moon.

    Nicole2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Extremely private location with the best stargazing ever. Immaculately clean, comfortable and well maintained. Had everything we needed in kitchen and bath and bedrooms. 7400' elevation can be difficult for those sensitive to altitude.

    Ellen2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a wonderful 2 nights here while visiting Great Basin National Park. The house was comfy and had everything we expected and more. Communication from the host was outstanding. Stargazing at night and watching the sun set and rise are amazing at this location. We highly recommend this choice.

    Kathleen2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • This was our third visit to Sally & Terry’s cabin, in a beautiful rural area well away from traffic and noise. It’s clean and nicely decorated, and had everything we needed to enjoy several day's visit to the Great Basin area. It was great to have a comfortable bed in a bedroom separate from the living room – so nice to have more space than studios or hotel rooms! The bathroom had plenty of big fluffy towels for the much-needed hot showers after our days of hiking. We appreciated that Sally provided fresh flowers, water, and cookies, along with coffee and tea for the morning. The kitchen was well supplied with dishes, pots & pans, and appliances. The backyard chairs, barbecue grill, and fire-pit made a perfect spot to enjoy the beautiful views at sunset and a glass of wine. The nighttime sky is breathtaking – so great to see so many stars, away from all the light pollution of the cities. Although there’s no cable or WiFi connection, our cell phones worked OK (Verizon and T-Mobile), and we also enjoyed watching a few DVD movies. Sally answered all our questions ahead of time, and gave us some good suggestions for places to visit while in the area. Great Basin is a lovely park, and we had some nice hikes to the Bristlecones and on the loop trail to Stella and Teresa Lakes. The Lehman Caves tour was amazing. We look forward to staying in this cabin again. Thank you, Sally

  • Unique location, loved it

    Dave2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • The best place to stay if you’re heading to Great Basin. The cabin is small but very comfortable. It definitely felt like a home away from home. It was nice to return to such a cozy, inviting place after spending the day hiking. We loved the outdoor deck, where we got to see Jupiter in the telescope as well as enjoy the wondrous night sky. The cabin location was a short drive from the park but far enough away where we had our own space to enjoy peace and quiet. I definitely recommend Sally and Terry’s place.

    Anastasia2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Fun location off the “loneliest highway”. It’s a cozy and comfortable cabin with a great view of the stars at night. Would recommend if you’re looking to get away from the city!

    Jake2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • All the privacy and seclusion of a cabin in the woods with all the conveniences and amenities available to make you feel at home. Beautiful views day (mountains of Great Basin National Park) and night (oh, the stars). Both kids and adults were in heaven!

  • This is our second time staying at the Bates Family Ranch. We loved our first stay, but we love it even more after our second stay. We loved talking to the Bates family and getting to learn more about the area. We did the crystal ball caves this time around and it was a super fun experience. Very unique to have a member of the family share not only the geological features of the cave, but their own personal experience growing up with it. There’s some great things in the area like the Devils Gate Slot Canyon and the Bates family was very helpful with giving us directions there. They have some great plans for this place to make a great experience even better and We will come back again and again!

    Brianna2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Worth the 26 mile dirt road. I did Crystal Cave tour very impressive. Didn't go to hot springs. This place is peaceful and you can see the milky way at night behind cabin out of light. Fantastic!

    Crystal2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Cute little place in the middle of nowhere! Clean, pleasant, and not a terrible drive from Great Basin.

    Devon2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • This place was amazing! Very secluded, wonderful views, cutest cabin and dogs. They were the nicest people. I would love to come back and go on their cave tour! Awesome place. Thank you!

    Megan2019-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Unique, comfortable, clean cabin -- very well worth the stay. Don't miss the Snake River Valley book (in cabin) on the history of the area. It is a remarkably researched publication that represents an investment of time and preservation of memory that is very rare and appreciated today. If you love dogs, this is the place for you. The two ranch dogs enthusiastically greeted me when I arrived, hung around to make sure everything was tip-top, and happily rolled over for a belly rub / nap.

  • Travis and Camille were very friendly and always making sure that we were comfortable. I loved how rural the area was and that we were on an actual farm. The kids loved the dogs and sleeping in a loft. They were able to add some extra experiences for the kids that made the experience even more magical. We would like to come back here again any time we are in the area.

  • The property and tiny homes are fantastic, well-kept, and comfortable. The bathrooms are clean with hot water. We also appreciated the friendly dogs and family members. Be aware that the property is about 30 miles north of Baker, Nevada and Great Basin National Park, and much of the travel is on a grated dirt road. The property is super isolated, but totally worth the excursion. It is also good to know the family has a sizable cave on their property. If interested, guests should call ahead about tour times.

    Nathan2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • If you’ve never spent time in this part of the country, this may be a bit of a shock. This is not a 5 star hotel. These are simple cabins with beds and there are common men’s and women’s bathrooms with showers. This is a working ranch 30 miles from pavement. But I rate this 5 stars because the main touch points of the stay; the bathrooms, the cabins, the bedding, were fresh and clean and you don’t get to stay in many Airbnb’s that are destinations unto themselves. The ranch itself is a shady oasis in the desert filled with peacocks. On our drive there we saw antelope running by the road and a golden eagle sulking on the shoulder because crows stole the hare it caught. If you come here, schedule a tour of the crystal ball cave. It’s a short drive and hike up Gandy mountain and that tour will be given by a member of the family who discovered it. It’s rare that you get this close to nature, history, and the reality of living in such a special place.

    Jonathan2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • Such a unique & lovely experience! Everyone was so kind. My son, 7, was over the moon with the peacocks. Cave tour with Travis was outstanding. So personalized and so informative! The little cabins were spotless and comfy.

    Christina2019-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • If you want the benefits of camping without the hassle of setting up a tent or packing bedding, this is the place! We felt warmly welcomed, and even got a tour of the ranch. Be prepared to cook over the fire if you're going to cook. Make sure you prepare to spend at least SOME time looking at the stars, which are breathtakingly clear and visible as the light pollution is minimal. There's a lot more going on here than the description lists. We were pleasantly surprised by all we COULD do in this region, and sad we didn't plan more time to explore and enjoy. Search Bates Family Ranch to get the most of your trip!

  • If you’re looking for a very remote place to feel lonely, that’s the best choice. It is also cleaner and better maintained than most similar places I’ve been to.

  • This place is as advertised, and quite clean. The beds were very comfortable. The loft access is a challenge unless you are limber, but the bed up there is great. Be sure to take your own towel. There's plenty of hot water, great showers. You need to be prepared for the dirt road drive and lots of dust getting there, but this is Nevada and it is a ranch. Enjoy the experience!

We are located in an extremely rural part of West Millard County in Utah. About 45 miles including 29 miles of improved county dirt road will bring you from Baker Nevada and Great Basin National Park to us, in Gandy, UT. 2 ranches make up Gandy. Other than that, there are no neighbors for 8 miles. A night sky full of stars like you have never seen them before. Located in a grass lined orchard that is over 100 years old. Deer, peacocks, and many different birds are regularly seen. We are often told "rural, but SO WORTH THE DRIVE!" if you put "Bates family ranch, Garrison, UT" into Google maps, it will show you our exact location and give you directions right to us.
  • Camille was a wonderful host; very quick response time and super friendly. There are also two adorable pups on the property!

  • We loved our stay at Bates Family Ranch and look forward to going back. The cabin was so clean and slept all 5 of us comfortably (with those that could stay small in the loft) :) The box fan was a great addition. We found the ranch in the dark and it took a little work but we did it. There is a “Bates Family Ranch” sign on the right where you make your left hand turn off Gandy. Very helpful in the dark. Their hospitality and care for us made our stay wonderful. The cabin and bathroom were so clean. It was wonderful to get away from the city and enjoy the amazing sky. So many stars and such beautiful colors at sunrise. The dogs are friendly. We wish we could have stayed and enjoyed the ranch more.

  • A perfect place to escape city noises and enjoy the pure peacefulness of nature! The cabins and restroom facilities were very clean and inviting. The ranch dogs were friendly and my kids loved exploring the grounds.

  • Definitely pay attention to the directions on how to get here - it's a bit far from the nearest gas station / food. The ranch dogs met us at the entrance and were extremely friendly. The tiny house was well heated and cozy. Bathrooms were reasonable enough, with showers, but make sure to bring your own towel and soap. We took the tip given and stopped at the The Border Inn on Rt. 50, which was great. Overall, we had a pleasant stay in the Coyote Den.

  • This place is just amazing! What a perfect little weekend getaway. There is so much exploring to do right by the cabins and perfect location if you want to check out Great Basin. I would suggest if you plan on heading out to this place think camping style and bring what you would camping. The place is super clean and the bathroom with a shower is a plus! Bring something to lay on at night if you want to check out the stars, the view is breath taking! We actually went out in the desert and enjoyed the view one night, we tried chairs but laying down is much better. I would also suggest if you want to go to the warm springs or slot canyon use your GPS while on wifi at the location then head out. The GPS will take you straight there. And the Crystal Ball Cave tour is a must, it is a tour so ask for tour times. They also have a little pond and we caught two big mouth bass, so bring fishing stuff if you wanna fish. And bug spray and repellent candles would be good to bring, I mean you are in the country. Now aside from all of the awesome exploring and things to do Travis & Camille and the family were so kind and make you feel like you're family. I cannot say enough great things about these hosts, location and family. Enjoy your stay! Happy exploring!

  • I loved the feel of camping with the goods of staying in a hotel. I loved the atmosphere around the place. The apple trees were beautiful. The gravel road going back to the ranch was well maintained. There are ladders going up to the loft area. Personally, didn't stay up there, but kids would love it! I am definitely looking forward to going back!

  • The Bates Family Ranch was a great place to stay. We planned on going to Great Basin National Park, but spent an extra days at the ranch - there was so much to do there. We had a great time and Jerald made sure we got to see and do a lot of extra things. Loved it!!
