Our stay at Orla’s property was an absolute treat. The lodge is beautifully situated amongst the privacy of lush trees and shrubs, a few minutes walk from a stunning beach, local store that sells a great range of groceries for your stay, and the fabulous Currach Pub. It is stylishly and comfortably furnished, and Orla was the perfect host, welcoming us and giving lots of advice and local information for our stay. Highly recommended!

Kaka cottage is a v special place. Somewhere to spend time, think, observe, or just to have a wonderful holiday. The peacefulness and beauty of this place are a given. Then there is the thoughtful and careful provision - the bed is comfortable and an extra blanket was welcome as the evenings in May are cool. The daybed by the big window is the place to watch the birds, the sky, the trees. Plentiful books and games. Ecostore products. Alongside this, simplicity. A different way of living - leaving as light a footprint as possible. The locals are v friendly. The Barrier Way is to stop and talk, to find out a little about people, and to be generous with time, help, information, a lift, a smile. The bird life around the house is astonishing. Fantails flicker like butterflies around the greenery, kaka mobbed by tuis in the nearby tree. And the night sky is indescribably beautiful on a clear night. The Milky Way splashed between Orion to the North and Scorpio to the South. Wonderful

This is the perfect place for an island getaway. It has everything you need to self-cater plus 2 great cafes and an Irish Pub close by. We had a car to explore Aotea but you wouldn't have to have one as there's a beautiful beach, general store, cafe, and pub in walking distance. Jo and Pete are exceptional hosts. They're friendly and helpful. We loved our stay and would definitely stay again. AA++
