Abandoned after the war and overgrown, Fort DeRussy was practically lost to history. Today, it’s virtually unknown: I grew up blocks away and didn't even know it was there. In this tour you will learn about the farm, visit an old spring house, play with mini donkeys, feed Kent sheep and pet and feed Mini Highland cows. Note: You will not go into the pasture with the cows, but you will get to pet and feed them through the fence. You will have an opportunity to go in the pastures with the Mini donkeys and Kent sheep. Cows, donkeys and sheep are very friendly and will enjoy giving you licks, eating out of your hand. Some guests like to set chairs up and just be in the pasture with the donkeys and sheep (while we are present guiding the experience). Looking for a fun outdoor activity for the family? Need to de-stress from the craziness of life? Cuddling with animals offers the opportunity to relax your mind and let go of the stress and anxiety for brief period. Not to mention, it's just FUN! During your visit, you will have one hour to cuddle and pet the animals on our micro-farm. Being that this is an outdoor experience, we are really not set up to do cuddle sessions during inclement weather. If we are expecting bad weather for your booked hour, I'm happy to work with you on re-scheduling for a nicer day or time. We currently have lots of Nigerian Dwarf goats of varying ages, a 2.5 year-old miniature Zebu named Molly, a rescue steer named Ferdinand, and two pigs named Charlie and Ellie. We also have numerous chickens, as well as our Holland Lop bunnies Oliver and Willow. ** For the health and safety of both our animals and yours, we do not allow outside animals to visit the farm. ** **We do not have a public bathroom on-site, since this is our home. I will focus on taking pictures in as natural a way as possible, while you go about enjoying the scenery. We will set sail from the Ocean City, Maryland commercial harbor, which is often an overlooked gem for guests that travel to Ocean City, a town primarily known for its beautiful beaches. Part of the beauty of the trip is passing Assateague Island to starboard on the way to the ocean- where feral ponies often intermingle with adventurous sunbathers and incredible birds are on full display! After cruising through the inlet connecting the coastal bays with the Atlantic Ocean, we will raise the sails and begin our ocean sailing experience. Depending on the wind/weather, we may cruise along the coast of OC or head a few miles out and check out land from a distance. Ocean sailing is a uniquely peaceful experience and a sailing catamaran provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy sailing. The boat sails flat, so there is no "heeling" (or leaning) as the wind powers the vessel. And because of the configuration of the deck, guest are free to move about the deck and find their perfect "spot" for relaxing- often in the trampoline forward! If the wind/waves are rough, I will mitigate their impact by sailing a bit downwind or by spending more time in the coastal bay navigating along Assateague Island. If conditions allow we will put up a spinnaker- the big, colorful sail that simply catches the wind and inspires awe in passengers and spectators alike! Other things to note Some people worry about motion sickness- and this concern is something to be taken seriously. If you are prone to motion sickness, then we recommend taking something about 30-45 minutes prior to the trip. Generally, the boat provides plenty of open air spaces so that seasickness is not an issue.
