The Carriage House: Beautiful Farmland Views.

The Carriage House is the second floor of our cedar stables that was turned into an apartment years ago. It was completely redone this spring and professionally decorated to make it a cozy + luxe retreat with views to die for. While we no longer use the stables to house animals we still keep a few head of cattle + sheep in the pasture for your enjoyment. The wall of windows along the back of the apartment offer you the most stunning views of the surrounding farmland and an unforgettable sunrise.

Our home is located in the middle of Pennsylvania Dutch Country, and within walking distance of all the shops in Intercourse including Kitchen Kettle Village, Stoltzfus Meats, and Smucker Village. Intercourse is surrounded by farmlands and in the summer several authentic Amish roadside stands selling fresh produce can be found within a mile from our home. We've been sharing our home with guests for years, and just refreshed the furniture and decor this year to ensure you have a cozy + chic stay.

Jodi is a wonderful host—very responsive and helpful. The space was super comfortable, and I loved the layout. The backyard was such a bonus; waking up and being able to sit outside with a view of nearby horses was a real joy. The area is peaceful at night, and I slept so well. I left feeling relaxed and at ease, and I’d absolutely stay here again. One note for future guests: I’d recommend asking who might be staying in the main house during your visit. If you’re not sensitive to noise like me you’ll be fine. A family was next door for two of my five nights, which was manageable, but if they had been there the entire time, it would have completely disrupted the quiet experience I came for. Still, overall, it’s a lovely and restful place to stay. Definitely recommend.

Daniel was very warm and friendly, and really fun to talk to. I've used this platform for most of my travels ever since it was created, so it is easy for me to distinguish between hosts that are just making good use of their extra space and those who are genuinely interested in meeting new people. In consideration of their Amish lifestyle, I think it is exceptional that they embrace the opportunity to meet and open their home to so many people of diverse backgrounds. Our group of 4 had a great experience getting to know them, and I hope that all of their guests will embrace the opportunity to do so as well, rather than miss that opportunity in favor of sleeping arrangements only. It's a very serene setting, where there is plenty of opportunity to view horse and buggies go by without suffering through the noise that would be associated with a house on a main road. Centrally located within 10 min to Lititz, Lancaster, Strasbourg and B-in-H. And perhaps you'll get to try a golden egg!

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Martha and Ervin’s place. The location was perfectly nestled near all of our favorite Lancaster spots (Kitchen Kettle, The Smokehouse Restaurant, Linden Coffee, Lapp Valley Farms + Ice Cream, and so much more!). While conveniently located, Martha and Ervin’s place provided plenty of privacy in a peaceful area. We look forward to staying here again and highly recommend it for your next Lancaster stay!
