We came out to Barry and Sherry's place to celebrate my graduation with my wife and boys. It was a great place to stay. We felt at home and my boys loved the atmosphere and all the things we could do in the surrounding areas. Their recommendations were really helpful there. We all loved our stay and when we return to the area will be looking to stay here again.

Stacey's Suite Power & Water
Perfect spot for a night stay to see family. Very comfortable and spacious for a studio, perfect for what we needed surrounded by beautiful views. We will definitely look for their listing again when we are back in town.

Oscar’s Barn: Hottub, River Access, Firepit
Thanks for a relaxing and peaceful getaway! Hot tub was newer and nicer than the photos, and our kids loved it. Our family also enjoyed taking our paddleboards and one of your provided kayaks out on the creek by the house. Fun location, and the BBQ at Haywood smoke house was amazing! Thanks for a memorable family retreat.

Cool Valley Cabin at Grassy Fork
CAN NOT say enough great things about our stay here! We absolutely loved how clean everything was, how much space there was for our large group, and how peaceful it was here. Daniel was an excellent host, has seriously thought of everything you might need while away from home, and was so friendly and quick to respond. Everything was done with thoughtfulness to having a lot of people but not feeling cramped, feeling at home while being able to enjoy the peacefulness and fun of vacation. Would definitely recommend staying here again!!!

1940s cabin on 35 acres hike&fish onsite+RV hookup
Exactly as advertised and a beautiful little cabin just off of the beaten path with quick access to the downtown areas

Lakeside Joy-Magical Views, Peaceful Escape
We loved our stay. It was so cozy and I loved the view of the lake right at the door. Such a wonderful area to rest. I liked staying here better than the Terrace. Mainly we had our privacy with separate bedrooms. Just a great time plus we loved the Sunrise on both days.

Birds Nest at Curly Cove Farm/fiber sheep/hot tub
Trish and Ron were some of the best hosts I've ever had. They were super friendly and accommodating. We had great conversations and they were very warm and welcoming. The private, cozy stay had everything I needed and they were open to tips! Worth the price and the excluded location from the city. I'll definitely come back to stay another time.

Lake View House 2.8 Miles to Downtown
We are return guests who love staying at this Airbnb! It is an entire second floor of a house with its own private entrance. We enjoy looking out the big front window at the lake, which our dog eagerly is walked around morning and evening. The back screened in porch overlooking the trees is so calming. Great shower, comfortable bed, there is nothing the hosts haven’t thought of to make your stay memorable. It is 10-15 minutes from downtown but near lots of good restaurants that are very close. We hope to stay again when we visit Asheville. Thank you Staci!

Treetop Getaway in Beautiful Lake Junaluska
This is a wonderful place to stay! Spacious rooms, perfect for a relaxing vacation with family. The hosts are very kind and their communicative made our stay better than we could’ve hoped for. Will definitely return soon!

Quilted Corner- 5 bed/4 bath-3 Kings
We felt at home at the Quilted Corner the minute we walked inside. The amenities were the best I have ever received at a Lake Junaluska private home. The kitchen was very well appointed, the beds were so comfortable, and the view of the mountains from our deck filled us with peace. Our hosts were friendly, accessible, and clearly passionate about hospitality. We will be back!

French Broad RiverSide Retreat, Marshall
Peace on the French Broad ! My first river vacation and this was the right spot. You have to be aware it is in the path of the flood, however the owners have this place looking like it didn’t happen . The interior looks brand new , yard and landscape was awesome, kitchen was fantastic, couch comfy ( I slept my first night there with the windows open) , talk about perfection. You saw the neighbors still dealing with rebuilding , you knew the heartbreak felt by the Community . Visited Marshall to Shop for at the Co-Op, leaving our hearts full of snacks, vitamins and bedding plants. The bench by the riverbank was the best seat in the house. I honestly didn’t eat a single meal inside, the porch was the dining room, great for moon watching . The kid in me watched the train go by- who doesn’t love trains. I would definitely book with Billy again! Thanks again for sharing such a wonderful house!

Huge house near Nat’l park, king bed, Easy access
This is a lovely spacious home with everything you could possibly need. It is nestled in the woods and is quiet and peaceful. We had room for our family to spread out with lots of space to relax. We would love to come again!

Unique Barn on an organic farm
This place is heaven on earth. So idyllic, quiet, lots of hiking. The house itself is cozy and well stocked. Kevin and Linda are wonderful hosts.

Quiet and Peaceful | Game Room | Mountain Views
I had an excellent experience at this Airbnb. The space was spotless, well-equipped, and very cozy. The host was very kind and always available for any questions. I felt right at home. I would definitely stay here again!

POTTS POINT AT LAKE JUNALUSKA
There were 4 lakeview dog friendly rental choices on my list & I believe I chose the best one. The house was adorable and has a large wrap around porch with flat easy parking enough for multiple cars. The view was awesome & the trail is right in front with a nice large corner lot. Lynette was nice enough to let me check in a little early and left us a pie! I would love to come back next year when its a little cooler before the lake gets drained in December & bring my elderly mom, even she could walk this trail & would enjoy the flowers at the Rose Walk.

Breathtaking View, Cozy, Dog Friendly
We had a great stay. Our dogs love laying on the porch with the sliding glass door open. Very peaceful!

Junaluska Nook & Nest
Gracious and accommodating hosts— great stay (location + price) overall! I’d recommend this stay to a small family, a couple or single traveler (male or female). Very safe neighborhood and close to all of the best parts in Waynesville. (I recommend: Orchard Church & Orchard Coffee)

Secluded Nature Retreat: Trail | View| Waterfall
This was the most beautiful stay we have ever had from Airbnb. We have stayed many places across the globe and I truly don’t think anything compares to how perfect Megan and Alan made this cabin. It was a private oasis that allowed us to enjoy our anniversary weekend without having to consider a single thing. They stock the home with everything you may need and more. Things I never considered bringing were available and it made the stay relaxing. Megan and Alan should be in control of ALL AIRBNBS! They know how to bring joy to your trip and should be the standard for all vacation stays

Studio on the River
This is our second stay at this cabin on the river, and we will be returning! If you are looking for a getaway, this is it. That river! Build in extra time for porch sitting, because you are going to need it. Local restaurants and beautiful sights make this area perfect for relaxing and sightseeing. Michael is a great communicator, and he has put so many extra touches into the cabin you will feel pampered from the minute you walk in the door. We spent a week at Michael's place, traveled to Waynesville, Sylva, Cherokee, and Ashville areas with ease. If private and peaceful is what you are looking for, you have found it - book it now!

Hummingbird Suite at Lake J
Lovely place, very welcoming and comfortable. My friend and I really enjoyed staying here. There was even coffee available!

Starstorm Mountain Apartment-Pet Friendly
This is a great spot for a family of four. The beds were comfortable. The space was big enough to spread out a little bit. The view from the deck is great as well. If you don't mind being 30 minutes away, this is a great place to stay while visiting Asheville. It's about an hour from Looking Glass Falls too. It's also a beautiful drive to the Tail of the Dragon from here. If you're coming from Raleigh this makes for a much shorter drive home after spending a day driving near the Dragon.

Lake Junaluska Cottage on the Lake, Walk the Lake
This was a perfect location for a wedding we were attending nearby. The 2 bedroom/2 bath cottage fit our needs wonderfully! It is actually why I chose it from the many options. The setting is beautiful. It reminded me of Chautauqua Lake, a similar religious retreat near my home, so I decided to research Lake Junaluska. Amazingly they were created by the same minister! Thank you, Heather for sharing this wonderful spot.

Cozy Cabin with Epic Mountain Views + Fireplace
We really enjoyed staying at the cabin. It is very beautiful and comfortable. The views are spectacular. Loved the gas fireplace. Awsome host.

Old Chestnut Cabin; walk to Lake Junaluska!
We had a great visit! The cabin was super cool and we loved reading about how it got to its current location. We drove into Asheville and drove into Waynesville, drove along the Blue Ridge Parkway and visited waterfall, walked around Lake Junaluska, and just thoroughly enjoyed everything. The cabin had everything we needed. We possibly could have used some dish towels, and a few extra bath towels, but we made due and would definitely stay again!

Your guide to Lake Junaluska
Welcome to Lake Junaluska
Ensconced in an enchanting valley just 27 miles west of Asheville, this serene lake and its namesake town were constructed as a Methodist resort in the early 1900s. More recently, the destination has welcomed anyone looking to unwind in a tranquil lakefront setting with a majestic mountain backdrop. To preserve the relaxed vibe, gas-powered motors are prohibited in the lake, but non-motorized watercraft including rowboats, paddleboards, kayaks, and canoes are popular.
In a nod to the region’s history, the artificial 200-acre lake was named for a Cherokee leader, and there are also a couple of lakefront museums and heritage centers. Surrounding the water are 16 verdant gardens as well as an 18-hole golf course and mini-golf attraction, and the lake’s perimeter is traced by a walking trail. America’s most popular park, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and the Blue Ridge Parkway scenic drive are right at the town’s doorstep.
The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Lake Junaluska
The four seasons are distinct in Lake Junaluska. Winter is short but very cold, and driving in the mountains can be a challenge when it’s snowing unless your vehicle is correctly outfitted. In springtime the chestnut trees and dogwoods bloom and milder temperatures set in, but occasionally it’s still chilly (definitely layer up, particularly if you’re going hiking in Great Smoky Mountains National Park). Long, warm summers are ideal for all activities associated with the lake, including lounging on patches of grass beside the water. Understandably, this is the town’s busiest time of year. Fall is gorgeous too, though, with its changing leaves and festivals and farmers markets happening in neighboring communities. Note that clouds and rain can appear year-round, and that certain businesses and attractions may close in colder months.
Top things to do in Lake Junaluska
Walking the Lake
Accessible to wheelchairs, strollers, and scooters, a 2.3-mile loop trail circles Lake Junaluska, crossing the Turbeville footbridge and meandering past churches, gardens, and other architecture and natural sites. It’s flat for the most part, with one section that traverses a hilly woodland, and can be extended to 3.8 miles if you bypass the bridge crossing.
Gardens
More than a dozen lush and pleasant gardens flank Lake Junaluska. Corneille Bryan Native Garden contains more than 500 native plants, which tend to attract local birdlife. The Biblical Garden is a collection of plants noted in the Bible (think herbs, figs, vines, and pomegranates). A rose walk lines the walking path along a section of Lakeshore Drive across from the World Methodist Building.
Lake sports
Paddleboard, kayak, canoe, and rowboat rentals line the lake from Memorial Day to Labor Day. If you don’t want to wield the oars yourself, look for the boat tours that leave from the dock behind the Harrell Center on summer weekends or the occasional lake cruise. Anglers with valid fishing licenses can get their hooks into bass and catfish.
