Reikaku Yasaka was a building in ruins with the floor tilted by at least 30cm when we discovered this hidden jewel. The restoration was particularly difficult due to the state it was in but our craftsman’s determination to bring this Machiya back to its formal glory paid off for Reikaku Yasaka. We had a lovely stay in Icy's traditional Japanese house. The location is excellent, quiet but well connected to all major transport within walking distance. The house is quite spacious - we had lots of room for the 4 of us. Everything was super-well equipped, including even washing machine detergent, bathroom amenities and really everything. Overall super pleasant stay in a traditional setting and even a fish pond which they kids loved. One watchout (as with any other Japanese place I think) are the steep staircases - we had no issue with them, but could be an issue for older travelers or very young kids.

Theres a bus stop about 7minutes walk and a subway maybe 8 minutes walk so it’s nicely connected. The bedding was comfortable as well. We found lots of plant based breakfast places around the area too. Honestly love Kyoto and this place as a base was a perfect balance for us.
