Cob Cottage

Channel the pursuit of pause in this one-of-a-kind earth house. The cozy retreat was hand-sculpted using local and sustainable natural materials, and features a central living space with cantilevered slab stairs leading to the loft bedroom. Guests have access to the entire cottage and surrounding property. We live in the neighbouring house, and are happy to give advice or answer questions to help you make the most of your stay. The neighborhood is quite rural and mostly agricultural with several farms and a small private vineyard. The home is a 10 minute walk from the beach and a 20 minute walk from a family grocery and deli specializing in local organic produce. Mayne Island has a small community bus. Times and routes are limited, particularly in the winter. It will stop at the driveway. We also have an official hitch hiking system with signed Car Stops where you can wait for a ride. Usually you don't have to wait long. We are happy to offer pickup and drop off at the ferry dock as a courtesy to encourage car-free travellers, on days when the community bus is not running. Please let us know ahead of time that you'll be coming without your own transportation, and we will make sure that either we or the community bus (which will drop you off at our driveway) are there to meet you when your ferry arrives. The BC Ferries terminals near Victoria and Vancouver are easily reachable via public transit from their respective airports and downtowns.

Our spacious and quiet 1 bedroom suite is perfect for 3 people, if 4-5 people are staying, a comfortable 18" raised queen air bed will be set for the additional guests in the living room area. Our house is located in Langford, just minutes from downtown Victoria. With a 1 minute walk to the nearest bus stop, 2 minutes to Florence Lake, and a 4 minute drive to the shopping centre, you can easily reach everything you need and quickly access Highway 1 to explore the beauty of Vancouver Island.

A infant is welcome to sleep in a beautiful baby wicket basket with stand. Unfortunately, the suite is not wheelchair accessible. Suitable for 2 persons. The suite and upper - hosts floor share one heating and cooling system with a thermostat on main floor. Our guests are able to control a comfortable temperature in the suite by adjusting ceiling vents.

We had a fantastic time at Mark’s house boat. It was very relaxing and the spot on the roof was ideal for an evening drink whilst watching the world go by. We took the taxi boat to the city for dinner and it was a perfect way to start and finish an evening. Top place.

What a wonderful house for a visit to Vancouver Island ! It it a great location (central to many attractions and hikes) and we really enjoyed the quiet neighbourhood. It is a spacious flat and the bedrooms are very comfortable. It also has great outdoor space for a lovely bbq. It was wonderful to wake up and enjoy my tea in such a sunny and quiet home. We really enjoyed our stay and will come again when we are back in the Victoria area. I highly recommend booking this flat.

Everything else was absolutely great and maybe just something simpler on the TV so maybe it would be easy for somebody my age to watch cable haha. I can't say enough good things about Michael's place. It is really well situated, close for those flying into the airport, easy to go to restaurants in Sidney, and perfect for those continuing on to Butchart Gardens -- and we did all of those things! Most of all we were impressed with how well and how nicely it was provisioned with regard to the kitchen essentials (glasses, cups, plates, bowls, silverware, and everything really). Same goes for the rest of the house. I left feeling that anyone who is thinking of using their place as a short-term rental should stay at Michael's place first -- just to see how to do it right.
