Monthly Rentals in Kares

We spent a few wonderful days at Anastasia-Maria`s place around the Greek Easter celebration. Anastasia was so nice to prepare a table with different typical Easter things, like the red Easter eggs, the Lambades, some Koulourakia, the EasterBrioche and had prepared little notes to explain the easter traditions. That was amazingly kind !!! Whenever we had a question she answered within a very short time, always helpful and very friendly. The place is a beautifully calm place, where two adults and one teenager could recharge indoors and outdoors. It would easily fit another two people. We had regular cat visitors outside the kitchen door :) You will need a car to get there and to explore places like Rethimno, Chania, Elafonissi or Preveli. There are taverns in the surrounding villages and a Mini-supermarket 5 minutes by car down the road. We can highly recommend this place and will come back in the future. This was my second stay at Ioulia's House and it was just as lovely and peaceful as last year. Stella and her father are very attentive and helpful. The setting is wonderful at the edge of the pretty village of Macheri and has wonderful views looking out towards the sea across a verdant landscape of hills and olive groves. The House has two lovely terraces with lovely flowers and is a short walk from the village Kafenion. Here you can enjoy traditional and beautifully cooked food under the mulberry trees at weekends and enjoy the welcoming friendly atmosphere. Other tavernas are a short distance away in the villages of Stylos and Neo Chorio. The beaches and restaurants at Kalyves are about 15 minutes away by car. I particularly recommend Panadasia by Kyani Anti beach. Ioulia's house and the area is a little paradise.

Giannis was a truly gracious and welcoming host. The welcome video was really helpful in lieu of meeting him in person. We felt right at home immediately. The house is as pictured, and the view of the White Mountains as glorious as hoped - truly incredible, in any weather. We were very comfortable throughout our 8-day stay, and Giannis was extremely responsive at all times. The insect screens on every single window were great as were the shutters, and we appreciated the air-con/heating in both living and bedroom. It’s a very private house, with a huge terrace, large living space and a walk to a local restaurant. For anything more a car is required, but that’s assumed given the isolation of the place. Wonderful property - we’d happily choose this house if on this side of Crete again.

We stayed at Despina's in Fres in February and March. From meeting us at the airport and helping us pick up our hire car she was always available if we needed advice. Driving into Fres you head for the village square and drive through it through an archway. Carry on this road for about 300m. Just beyond a small church on the left you will see it in front of you. There is a small undercover car parking space with the stairs to get to the flat. Despina's father lives in the flat below. He is very kind and despite not speaking English we managed to understand each other. We were also lucky to be given lemons, oranges,eggs and olive oil from his garden. The area is beautiful and rural with the sounds of goats and chickens to listen to whilst sipping wine on the balcony looking towards the sea. The area is a great base for exploring especially Vamos, Almyrida and the Apokoronas region. Chania and Rethymno are not too far either. I can't recommend Despina's place highly enough.
