Beautiful rooftop flat with Acropolis view

HelenRating, 5 stars5 days ago
We were very happy to be back at Spiros’s place again after our holiday to Naxos and Paros. It’s the fifth time we have stayed and it was such a lovely end to our vacation. We loved sitting out on the rooftop looking at the Acropolis, eating out in wonderful restaurants and absorbing the history and culture of Athens. Spiros was so kind and friendly - he even bought us a bottle of wine and chocolates at the end of our stay. I highly recommend Spiros’s place - it’s clean, comfortable and right in the centre of the Plaka. You won’t find a better rooftop terrace in the whole of Athens! Thank you Spiros and we look forward to coming again for our holidays next year.

Stunning view of Acropolis and Athens

TyRating, 5 stars5 days ago
This team was extremely responsive, friendly, and helpful with any and all questions / concerns that we had. With four people on this listing, someone was always available to answer. The views were beautiful and it was less than a 10 minute walk to the city center. While the bathroom was a bit small the place itself was very clean and we are so happy we stayed here.

We couldn't ask for a better location for our 3 nights stay in Athens with a small baby, right in Plaka and walkable to the Acropolis and other sites. Despoina and Kostas were very friendly and accommodating with a crib for us and quick responses. The property is as described, decorated tastefully and fitted out thoughtfully for a city break. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Athens!

Acropolis unique view - Historical center

Chris Rating, 5 stars4 days ago
We had a wonderful stay. The apartment is close to all of the sites and many restaurants. The ac is a must after a hot day of walking around. We felt right at home and very comfortable. For Americans traveling; the washer and drier is a single unit but it works (give yourself 4-5 hours for a load of laundry). We would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place in the heart of the city.

Location location location. The best view of rhe Acropolis from your own patio. Close to many things in Plaka. Little tricky following the instructions for the keys. The place was very clean. Had trouble finding the garbage/recycling at the end of the stay--would prefer if we didn't need to throw the trash couple alleys away

View of Acropolis from your bed!

EmilyRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
We loved Liana & Theodosios’s Airbnb! The views were amazing and the location was perfect! Walkable (10 minutes to the Acropolis) to all the big things you’d want to see in Athens but also in a more residential area so it was quiet with local restaurants around the corner. We loved sitting on the terrace every morning with our coffee and breakfast. Liana was very communicative and proactive about checking in on how our stay was going. If we had to find something we didn’t love, the shower was small and the shower head sprayed sort of sideways so water would get all over the bathroom. Manageable but not the best. Also if you’re hoping to cook at home a couple night, there isn’t a cooking surface besides a panini press but most people probably eat out every night. This is all being nitpick-y though. It really is an amazing place to stay!

The view is truly spectacular! From each window and the large sliding doors Athens and historical sites surrounding you. The veranda is large and spacious five stories up. Hostess responds in minutes and provided excellent restaurant recommendations. We enjoyed the Jasmine Cottage around corner where we found the most “homemade “ Greek food way less expensive than further up the street. Truly a unique kind.

We had a fantastic stay at this apartment. The location is absolutely perfect; everything we needed was within walking distance, which made exploring the city super easy. The apartment itself was cute, clean, and cozy, and the views of the Acropolis were truly breathtaking — definitely a highlight of our trip! Our hosts were kind, welcoming, and very responsive throughout our stay. We also arranged transportation through them, and our driver was amazing: punctual, friendly, and made us feel right at home. Romanos and his team prepared the property with attention to detail prior to our arrival. He arranged our transportation to the property and after we left. He was very welcoming and provided us with complete information about the apartment, the surroundings, places to eat and things to do. He was responsive to messages we sent. The apartment is in a perfect location with a wonderful view from the two decks on the 7th floor. It was very walkable to the different interesting destinations in the city as well as wonderful restaurants and cafes. We would definitely stay at Romano's (Stray Cats) apartment again. Note, that the elevator takes you to the sixth floor. Your luggage will need to be carried up the last flight. Romanos was very kind to help us with this. Thank you for a wonderful stay in Athens!

Upscaled Loft in Historic Center with sunny patio

InbarRating, 5 stars1 week ago
We really enjoyed our stay at this Airbnb in Athens. The apartment is exactly as shown in the photos – charming, stylish, and located in a fantastic area, close to everything. That said, there were a few things that could be improved. When we arrived, the apartment wasn’t properly cleaned – there were crumbs and food stains on the kitchen counter and dining table, which was disappointing. The washing machine also didn’t work, which was inconvenient during our stay. In addition, on the day of our departure, there was a taxi strike in Athens. We had messaged the day before saying we were leaving early, and it would have been very helpful if the hosts had informed us in advance about the strike. We barely made it to the airport on time. Also, the water in the shower tends to spill over, and there’s no proper bath mat – just a small wooden platform that doesn’t feel very hygienic between guests. Still, the apartment itself is lovely and well-equipped, and we had a great time overall.

The Acropolis view Penthouse • Private Jacuzzi

AlisanRating, 5 stars5 days ago
Arrived in evening & found entrance was at far end of road which was uphill. Taxis were on strike day we arrived after a 45 minute walk 😢. We should’ve caught the Metro. Keyless entry system worked fine. Wi-Fi worked well. Tried local restaurant the 1st evening, recommended & cheap. Apartment had all amenities except a microwave which we didn’t need. Spotlessly clean & & photos are accurate. Nice complimentary bottle of wine & water on arrival. Jacuzzi on patio was lovely. Text communication with Panagiotis was excellent & he messaged several times to ensure we were OK. Used local metro at bottom of hill which is great to get into central Athens & only €1.20 a journey. Uber is about €7. Breakfast in morning on back patio is lovely as sun rises with distant view of Acropolis. Nice to sit on front balcony at end of day watching sun set. Panagiotis was so helpful with any text communication. Would highly recommend.

Staying at Phos was absolutely incredible! The apartment was beautiful and had a balcony with an amazing view of the Acropolis!! Cris and Eva were super responsive and kind. It was a fabulous place to rest from the hot afternoons, and was super close (~15min or less walking) to the Acropolis, Agora, & Monastiriki market! They also offered a taxi service from the airport at a very reasonable rate to get to the apartment early so we could drop off our luggage from our early flight and get to exploring Athens immediately - Leonidas was an awesome taxi driver!

PORTO BLUE LUXURY APARTMENT

MelindaRating, 5 starstoday
We loved the views and the home, gorgeous!!! Be aware that you need to walk luggage up 2 flights of stairs, worth the effort! Small items like shampoo and cream rinse would be a welcome addition. Also, this sleeps max 4 people, if 2 people share a bed. The bathroom and shower are beautiful. The deck is a once in a lifetime view. The restaurants in the neighborhood are gorgeous, but it’s good to know that the nightclubs go until 3am.

Your guide to Athens

All About Athens

The birthplace of Western democracy and the home of some of the most influential ancient philosophers of all time, Greece’s largest city has led the way in science, the arts, and knowledge for millennia. The Greek capitol, surrounded by mountains on the mainland’s southern peninsula jutting into the Aegean Sea, has a rich mythological, literary, and dramatic history. You can relive history at sites like the Acropolis, where Greek gods competed for the right to name the city, or the Agora, which once held religious temples and was used as a meeting place to discuss democratic matters. For one of the richest collections of artifacts and antique treasures discovered across Greece — including prehistoric pieces from the Neolithic Period and the Bronze Age as well as sculptures and statues from the Classic Period — you’ll want to check out the National Archaeological Museum.

Street art and buildings dripping with bougainvillea line the area of Plaka, one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited neighborhoods at the foot of Acropolis Hill — where you’ll also find restaurants serving up local fare like moussaka, souvlaki, and spanakopita. The neighborhood of Monastiraki, one of the busiest areas of the city, is home to a picturesque main square, rooftop bars, and an extensive market where you can buy handmade goods, antiques, and jewelry.

The green, sprawling National Gardens have entrances all over the city as they comprise nearly 60 acres of manicured grounds and crisscrossing pathways, and for art lovers, the National Museum of Contemporary Art showcases modern works created by Greek and international artists.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Athens

Athens has relatively mild weather compared to other major European cities, so there is no bad time to secure your vacation apartments in Athens. But during the summer, the days are very hot and sunny. You’ll want to get as early a start as possible to avoid being outdoors during the hottest time of the day. During this time you can also catch parts of the Epidaurus Festival, which runs all summer and celebrates Greek music, theater, and dance. This is also a popular time to visit the Greek Isles — although if you’re looking for a quieter experience, you may want to island-hop in spring or fall when you can still enjoy warm weather with fewer people around.

Winter brings much cooler temperatures, though it never gets below freezing, and there is a higher possibility of rain. The season also brings fewer visitors to Athens, giving you the chance to explore the city in a relatively quieter atmosphere.

Top things to do in Athens

The Acropolis

The towering columns of the Acropolis and the cracked steps leading up to them are synonymous with Athens. Many of the structures in the complex date back to the fifth century B.C., including the Parthenon and the Erechtheum. Originally dedicated to Athena, the patron goddess of Athens, and now a UNESCO World Heritage site, the ancient citadel symbolizes democracy and the beginning of Western civilization.

The National Archaeological Museum

As the largest archaeological museum in the country, this sprawling building is home to many of the greatest treasures of Ancient Greece. Here you’ll find antiquities dating back to the sixth century B.C. and pieces of Ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian art, including sculptures, drawings, and pottery. The museum cafe has a leafy garden patio that hosts works of art, musical performances, and other events.

Lykavittos Hill

Standing 909 feet tall, Lykavittos Hill is the highest point in Athens and offers sweeping vistas of the city. It’s a photo-worthy spot to get a good view of the Acropolis, and it is particularly stunning at sunset when you can see the sky explode into a sea of colors before the lights of the city’s ancient buildings begin to pop against the dark sky.
