The original small log cabin is Amish built and relocated to our lake lot from a local Christmas tree farm. We added on just over 1000 sq ft to the cabin to complete Cottonwood Cove.

This home is set up like a duplex with owners occupying the top (we do have 3 young children) and guests having full, private access to the bottom half. Guests are given a private garage and back yard that includes free firewood. Private entry gives access to over 2,200 sq ft of private space that includes a semi-four seasons room with gas fireplace, laundry, and full kitchen. The Maynard Log Cabin was erected by a homesteader after the civil war. We have moved and restored it and made it available for rent. It is off the grid, but it has a complete functioning kitchen, wood stove and sitting room downstairs. There are two antique beds with new mattresses upstairs. There is no electricity but the cabin is furnished with kerosene lanterns. The bathroom facilities consist of wash basins and outhouse. The cabin is surrounded by 40 acres of woods and meadows.

The lake was beautiful and peaceful, and we were grateful for the use of the kayak, paddle board, and pedal boat. The home was pristine and thoughtfully appointed— it had everything we needed. It was very handy to have the convenience store down the street, and Alexandria just a short drive away for dining/shopping options. 10/10 would stay again.

This is a perfect place to stay for a weekend or a long stay. Would 100% rent again. Hosts are very friendly and took care of anything that came up right away.

The cabin was very nice. We loved the 3 season porch with all the extra seating. We spent every evening out there enjoying the open space. There was enough seating for all of us to be able to sit and play games. Like the other reviews have said this cabin is next to a busy road and you can hear the traffic all night while sitting in the porch. It didn’t bother us because we were busy talking and playing games. I can see how it would bother someone if they came to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. I would definitely recommend this place. It was fully stocked with anything you would need for basic cooking. There isn’t an oven or a dishwasher. Keep that in mind when planning meals. There was plenty of bedding and pillows.
