Monthly Rentals in Egilsay

We absolutely loved our stay on Rousay and in Liz and Colin’s cottage. The cottage is beautifully renovated with everything we needed plus more. The views from all the windows were spectacular. Liz and Colin were super friendly and helpful, whilst respectful of our privacy within the grounds of their working farm. We loved seeing all their lambs up close! We had some great hikes and experiences despite mixed weather. We’d originally thought to visit the Orkney mainland while we were there but there’s so much of interest on Rousay that we easily filled our time. Just wish we could have stayed longer.

The Ruah is truly wonderful. It is a historic tiny cottage that directly faces the sea. We saw seals swimming in front of the house. It really is magical. We struggled a bit with the hot water boiler but if you follow the instructions (switch on the boiler 30 min before you need hot water), you'll be fine. The bed is very comfy and you will wake up with a sea view. The cottage itself could do with some modernisation (an old radio for music, the two chairs in the lounge could be replaced.. ) and not everything was superclean but it is very cosy & the whole experience makes up for everything. I would still recommend going. Eday is truly beautiful and remote and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

What a gorgeous and peaceful location! Westray is a gem, and the pod is located near everything you’d want to see. An easy drive or bike ride to Pierowall (which has a couple of really good markets and restaurants), close to Castle o’Burrian for an exceptional puffinry (if you’re there in spring). The pod is well-equipped and comfy, looking out on the bay of Toquoy. Easy access from the Kirkwall ferry, and a short ferry ride to Papay (recommended!!). Oh and a 90-second plane ride there, too! Five stars!

Great place Lets face it, Eday is not an island you visit on a whim or by accident. Total population is about 120 people, the community shop opens just a couple of hours, most days; plus it's a 90 minute ferry from the Orkney mainland, itself a ferry or flight from Scotland. But, when you get there this place makes it all worth while. The location and views are unmatched, it's well furnished, the heating is properly effective, the kitchen is very well equipped (lots of crockery, good quality saucepans and cooker, the knives are actually sharp (an AirB&B first for us); plus having 2 fridges is genius. The broadband is amazing too (we measured 400Mb) If you want nightlife (unless you count the short eared owls you can see through the window) forget it. If you want a completely peaceful stay on a beautiful island; go for it.
