Grandpa's Cottage, Wellwood Farm

JamesRating, 5 stars5 months ago
To see the workings of a multi-generational family farm, stay in a 170 year old house with beautiful high-quality furniture and fittings, and engage with a kind and gentle-natured farmer and his wife…was wonderful. A gentle desert rain arrived as we got there and set the tone for one of the most restful holidays we have ever had. The farmer’s 2 dogs popped in every now and again and made themselves part of the family. Richard and Anika were accommodating and quick to sort out anything we asked for. The house was spotlessly clean and filled with history from the 1800s. There was a sense of warmth with the people living / working on the farm as well. The drive to Nieu Bethesda was around 15min going up a gorgeous gentle pass which presented something new every time we travelled. The highlight of the stay was walking up the hill behind the house and sitting on the bench overlooking the farm, valley, and mountains at sunset. Thank you Richard and Anika (our kids say hi).
The bathroom features a round mirror above a sleek sink with modern fixtures. A wooden shelf holds woven baskets containing toiletries. Greenery adds a touch of nature, while a textured rug lies on the floor, enhancing the overall design of the space.

Chic Karoo guestroom - sunny and central

LenRating, 5 stars3 months ago
I usually take the traditional route between Cape Town and Johannesburg, stopping in Colesberg or Richmond. This time, I explored a new path and discovered Nieu-Bethesda—a hidden gem. The town’s gravel roads, fantastic restaurants, free-roaming horses, and the sound of owls at night created a magical atmosphere, especially while enjoying incredible lamb dishes. The highlight was my stay at Ludolf and Carla’s Airbnb. Their beautifully restored, pet-friendly home is tastefully decorated and equipped with every comfort. Thoughtful touches—welcome sherry, luxurious bedding, Africalogic amenities, homemade rusks, and fresh milk—made me feel truly pampered. Their property also features a stunning underground cellar for special events. Ludolf and Carla provided excellent communication and a detailed town map. Their hospitality, combined with Nieu-Bethesda’s charm, made this an unforgettable experience. I’m officially a fan and will definitely be back!

We had such a lovely stay at Glenfinlas! The cottage is cosy and comfortable with everything you need, and the freshly baked bread and other treats made it extra special. The farm is located in a beautiful area, and we loved the peace and quiet. Thank you Chris and Sally. We will definitely be back!

Mountain View Cottage

ShevonneRating, 5 stars4 weeks ago
We had a lovely stay, beautiful farm with farm animals and nature all around. The only thing that wasn’t great was the dirt road, it’s more suited for a higher clearance vehicle than an ordinary car, since we had to drive very slow which takes longer, especially if it’s just for a one night stop over. But other than that, we’d recommend this place and our host, Jaco was a very nice guy.

Karoorest cottage on Sneeuberg farm

HaroldRating, 5 stars5 months ago
It's difficult to overstate how incredible this place is. The Rest Farm is an incredible oasis in the Karoo, and Shepherd's Cottage is a beautiful old farmhouse, comfortable, private, and peaceful with all the amenities - it would be easy to stay here a week or even a month. The sunsets, the walks, the birds, the river nearby. Paula and Ian's hospitality was second to none - their house is right nearby and they provided milk and bread from their farm, tea, and wonderful conversation. And a dip in the water reservoir behind their house. This place is an absolute treasure and we're hoping to come back as soon as we can.
