Four Little Birds Cottage

We were very comfortable and happy here! Brought our families for my mom’s 70th birthday and the hot tub and private fishing hole were everyone’s favorite things. The ninja course also kept the kids busy. When a problem arose with the air conditioning it was addressed and fixed asap. Would stay again!

I loved staying at their place. Next time I know to go shopping BEFORE getting there. It’s literally so out there it’s amazing. My kids Had such a blast on the swings , the trampoline and all the other amenities. It was so relaxing for them to get a break from tech and just enjoy the outdoors. There was a lot of dog hair which stired up some of our kiddos breathing issues but other than that. It was AMAZING STAY. We can’t wait to come back❤️🥰

Our stay at Julie’s place was absolutely wonderful. The location was private and secluded, offering the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle. The kitchen was outstanding, equipped with all the amenities you could need for cooking and entertaining. The property was picture-perfect, with every beautiful landscapes —ideal for capturing memories. We spent quality time with our close friends, but the space is versatile and would easily accommodate larger families as well. It’s a place we have returned to and would love to return to. Highly recommend for a relaxing and picturesque getaway!

Sundance @RRG {Hot Tub & 2 Large Decks}

DakotaRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
This cabin is absolutely beautiful. The decks are really nice and it has pond access for fishing. Great kitchen and comfy seating. The hosts were really responsive (we booked for a weekend with a big storm lol) but it was so much fun. The only thing I will say is that if you don’t have 4 wheel drive you might want to make sure you have a bigger car. About 5 minutes of the drive is bumpy and steep and the driveway is pretty steep. But I would definitely stay here again and it felt super secluded and relaxing.

Our family had a great stay!! We enjoyed lots of fishing, grilling out, using the little boat and peddle boat and the hot tub was wonderful. Not far from the Red River Gorge attractions and the area around was beautiful. Such a beautiful location to wake up to and drink your coffee while watching the fog rise from the lake. We also saw a few deer. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing and private get a way. Would love to stay here again in the future.

Nurys and Randall were such incredibly kind and thoughtful hosts. Lots of attention to detail including breakfast ingredients in the fridge. My brother and I brought our babies and spouses for a long weekend. It was the halfway point from where we both live. We felt right at home. CLIMB ON INN - Apt 2 - Naturally Gorgeous- RRG

JulieRating, 5 stars2 months ago
There are three things I am looking for when I choose a place to stay on vacation and this place checked every box! 1. LOCATION! This place is in a perfect location. It is close to a highway, but I never heard any traffic noise. What I absolutely loved about the location is that we were not more than 20-30 minutes from any hikes wanted to do or restaurants we wanted to visit, but it still feels quiet and set apart. Also loved the coffee/ice cream shop 1 minute down the road. Visited it every day! 2. Easy parking - Several years back I rented a place that was nearly impossible to get to so this was important to me. There are no steep hills or narrow roads in or out of the apartment. Parking is right by the front door. Super easy in and super easy out. Perfect. 3. As described - I have also been burned in the past by finding a place much different than pictured. Not here. This was exactly as expected if not better. I would 100% rent again. Hoping to return someday with my sister!

We loved it there absolutely surrounded by nature l, the previous people who had stayed didn’t care for some of the damage they had done but we made sure the host knew and cleaned all of the towels we used and swept and mopped the floors before we left. It was absolutely what my family and I needed thank you 🙏

Quiet Creek Cabin: Cozy Forest Retreat w/ Hot Tub

ChadRating, 5 stars5 days ago
My wife and I along with our fur baby just spent four nights at this wonderful cabin tucked away down a quiet winding road. The cabin had all the amenities you would expect and more. It was clean and everything was labeled and easy to find. The decor was charming with a rustic with a modern feel. We enjoyed sitting on the covered deck porch hearing the babbling creek and seeing the humming birds. The host was friendly and easy to contact. We really hated to leave and hope to come back again.

New cabin in Daniel Boone National Forest

We were very comfortable and felt right at home! The water heater is pretty tricky to figure out but that was our only hiccup. We had neighbor dogs come say hi and they were very friendly. We are animal lovers so this just made our trip even better. The property is beautiful, with plenty of outside chairs in the front, side and back to enjoy the views and the cicadas were singing loudly, while we were down. What a great experience! I would book with Amy again!

Relaxing pet friendly cabin near RRG/Cave Run/DBNF

PjRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
I cannot say enough about how wonderful the stay was over Memorial Day weekend. We hiked and came back knowing we would have the perfect place to relax for the evening. Bedding was very comfortable as was all the furniture. Bathroom spit spot clean and again soft linens. This will probably become an annual trip (if not more often) for our group of 4. The coffee/tea bar was an awesome touch!

Your guide to Cave Run Lake

Welcome to Cave Run Lake

Cave Run’s 200 miles of lush green forested shoreline circle nearly 8,300 acres of crystal-clear water. The sprawling man-made lake, built by the Army Corps of Engineers in the late ’60s, offers plenty of room to spread out and find your own little piece of nature in northeastern Kentucky’s Daniel Boone National Forest. Make use of the rolling hills surrounding it for hiking, mountain biking, or ATVing, or get out on the water for a variety of boating experiences. Anglers find all kinds of fish lurking under the lake’s smooth surface, but Cave Run is particularly famous for its large and plentiful muskie population.

The natural playground of Cave Run Lake lets you choose to watch the outdoors serenely from a comfortable perch on a porch, enjoy it as you gently paddle across the water, or watch it whiz by as you speed down dirt trails. But no matter your flavor of daytime activity, you’ll be awed by the incredible, colorful sunsets that cap most days.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Cave Run Lake

Muskie fishing season heats up in March, attracting the largest number of anglers to Cave Run Lake in the spring, though fishing here is a year-round activity. The weather follows a pretty typical seasonal pattern, with hot summers and chilly winters. The humidity and precipitation remain steady all year, making late spring and early fall pleasant times to visit. Because so much of the lake’s appeal comes from spending time outdoors, the crowds descend in summer, including daytrippers from nearby towns as well as campers and RVers from around the region. The below-freezing winter low temperatures and occasional snowfall drive away many people in the off-season, except diehard anglers, who still come to see what’s biting.

Top things to do in Cave Run Lake

Zilpo Road

This 11-mile National Forest Scenic Byway stretches west from the Zilpo Recreation Area on the lake’s southwest shore and winds through the eastern hardwood forest. Though the drive straight through only takes about 20 minutes, plan to stop often, and be sure to visit the historic Clear Creek iron furnace.

Minor E. Clark Fish Hatchery

One of the country’s largest freshwater fish hatcheries, this sprawling facility on the northern tip of Cave Run Lake rears four million sport fish each year. The hatchery’s more than 100 ponds are open to visitors year-round to wander and observe, while in summer you can go inside for a tour of the operation.

Twin Knobs Recreation Area

While boats can enjoy the entire Cave Run Lake, only two spots boast swimming areas. The sandy beach at Twin Knobs provides safe, swimmable waters roped off from the fast-moving boats — and with a nice view. A pleasant shoreline trail stretches north from the beach, and as part of the campground area it’s also home to an amphitheater, boat ramp, and volleyball courts.
