Cob Cottage

Channel the pursuit of pause in this one-of-a-kind earth house. The cozy retreat was hand-sculpted using local and sustainable natural materials, and features a central living space with cantilevered slab stairs leading to the loft bedroom. Guests have access to the entire cottage and surrounding property. We live in the neighbouring house, and are happy to give advice or answer questions to help you make the most of your stay. The neighborhood is quite rural and mostly agricultural with several farms and a small private vineyard. The home is a 10 minute walk from the beach and a 20 minute walk from a family grocery and deli specializing in local organic produce. Mayne Island has a small community bus. Times and routes are limited, particularly in the winter. It will stop at the driveway. We also have an official hitch hiking system with signed Car Stops where you can wait for a ride. Usually you don't have to wait long. We are happy to offer pickup and drop off at the ferry dock as a courtesy to encourage car-free travellers, on days when the community bus is not running. Please let us know ahead of time that you'll be coming without your own transportation, and we will make sure that either we or the community bus (which will drop you off at our driveway) are there to meet you when your ferry arrives. The BC Ferries terminals near Victoria and Vancouver are easily reachable via public transit from their respective airports and downtowns.

Our tiny cabin is located on a 14 acres property in the middle of the woods. You will enjoy complete privacy and use of your own area on the land, including a pond. Located 2 min, from the Transcanada Trail, 20 min. walk to the Kinsol Trestle, a World Heritage Site with beautiful swimming holes right underneath the bridge. 20 min. to next Grocery store and 22-25 min to Duncan. Perfect location, amazing view, and very quiet. The only sounds are the waves. What a relaxing start and end to each day. We were treated to whales passing by at dinner and a visit from what appeared to be a sea otter while sitting on the beach. All of this along with Lynn and Brad’s attention to detail and thoughtfulness made this the best Airbnb experience we’ve had. Thank you, we’ll be back!

Our stay at the Captain's Quarters was amazing! The home itself was very clean, cozy, and full of lots of amenities to make it feel more like home. The view from the deck is unbeatable and the town of Deer Harbor is so peaceful. Alainah was super responsive and even let us know how the icy road conditions were before we got there in the winter.

Philip’s home on Orcas is a magical place. From the top-tier furniture and finishings to the stunning location with a literal removable wall to experience nature, we had a perfect stay. Philip was flexible with check-in and check-out and even left us some treats. As someone who is 6’6” tall (2m) I absolutely loved the large sofas, tall ceilings, and extra-large soaking tub. We hope to return again soon!

The property, nestled among towering redwoods and Douglas Firs, is a sanctuary for the soul. Joe, our incredible host, went above and beyond to make our stay unique and personal. His warmth, love, and attention to detail made us feel truly cared for. From the soothing sauna and invigorating cold plunge to the serene hiking trails just steps from our door, everything felt intentionally designed to invite healing and renewal. By the end of our stay, we felt refreshed, uplifted, and ready to return to the world with renewed energy. I wholeheartedly recommend taking time for yourself here. You won’t just visit—you’ll heal.
