Travel like a local

Few major cities are as beautifully complex as Mexico City. To decide on the endless things to do in Mexico City, start by taking the time to embrace its contrasts: Do a Michelin-star restaurant and a street food walking tour on the same day. Enjoy Museo Frida Kahlo then go find emerging artists in the Roma neighborhood. Meet the locals behind the lucha libre masks (really). Take time for tours and activities that go beyond the famous sights — and sounds, and tastes — with Airbnb Experiences.

What Mexico City has to offer

Xochimilco: Explore the neighborhood, flavors, drinks and boat trip in a beautiful Trajinera
Xochimilco has been declared a World Cultural Heritage Site due to its historical and cultural richness. Then we will visit the main market where you will see piñatas and various products, fruits and vegetables. We will go to the flower market to see the beautiful colors of Xochimilco. Then we will visit a typical pulqueria where we will try "pulque" a millenary drink, prehispanic, with 4 degrees of alcohol, made with the fermented wisdom of an agave plant, if you do not drink alcohol do not worry we have non-alcoholic options. We will end with a relaxing 1.5 hour boat ride "trajinera", we will go through some beautiful and quiet ecological canals, in the lake you will be able to appreciate the fauna: ducks, herons and axolotls, With our friend Mario we will learn about agriculture and construction of the floating islands "chinampas" that continue to be used for cultivation. We will go to explore a chinampa where there is the replica of the "Isla de las muñecas" to learn about ghost stories in Xochimilco. You will prepare red salsa, green salsa, and guacamole, and make your own tortillas on the traditional Mexican "Comal"—a smooth, flat griddle. At the end, we'll put everything together to make the tacos, sit and enjoy what you have prepared, and learn a little more about Mexican gastronomy. Live Lucha Libre night with a real fan
1) We'll meet up in a convenient location for you in the Roma/Condesa/Juarez area. 2) Taco dinner nearby: I recommend this BEFORE we go to the Arena (but if you'd rather after, that's possible)! I'll take you to a popular taco spot and we'll have a bite & drink together. 3) We'll then head to Arena México and have time to see the masks. I'll help you bargain for one if you like, and I'll start to explain the basics of Lucha Libre so you know what we're about to see and do. 4) We'll head in and watch the show together! Please note not all tours offered on this site actually go in with you but I do and comment throughout so you can appreciate what's going on! I'll also teach you the right chants so you can really get in on the action! 5) Optional Fridays: If you're up for it, I invite you to add on a bonus activity (no extra cost!) which is going to Patrick Miller nightclub afterwards. This is a unique Mexico City gem! It involves high-energy music (similar to 80s style) and dancing in a really special scene. I'll explain and guide you so you can get the most out of seeing the amazing dance circles, hard core "Patricio" fans and if you're brave enough, even join in the dancing! Other things to note Lucha libre is more a show than fighting so don't worry about it being too violent. In fact, this experience is very family friendly! If you prefer a partying vibe, I recommend Patrick Miller after!

We will also explore a local market where you will learn about some of the staple ingredients used in Mexican cuisine. There is no better way to wash down tacos with a delicious agua fresca or a cold beer. We will finish with amazing Mexican coffee and artisanal chocolate. Other things to note: The tour is very dynamic, we can mix and change attractions as the tour goes on. I can also accommodate the experience for different dietary restrictions. I look forward to meeting you! On a personal note, For the safety of my guests and my own, I am fully vaccinated (with Pfizer).

Where do locals hang out in Mexico City?

In a city with a population larger than New York City, you can’t easily pinpoint where CDMX locals congregate, let alone what they like to do. However, you can expect to find a lively nightlife scene in the Centro Histórico district, a relaxing afternoon in Parque México (people love biking here), and shopping at the artisan San Ángel market (aka Bazar del Sábado). Sharing most parts of the city is inevitable, but locals can still feel moved by places such Plaza de la Constitución, also known as Zócalo.
