This is where the Portuguese royal family moved in when they arrived in Brazil in 1808, escaping from the Napoleonic wars in Europe. From this time until 1889, when Brazil became a republic, the building was the political centre of Brazil.

The first palace of King Dom João VI when he arrived in Brazil in 1808. Today it is a cultural center with restaurant and bookstore.

Colonial Building where the Royal Portuguese family lived when arrived in Rio in 1808 running from Napoleon. Modern Rio started here! It works as a Cultural Center now, with nice art exibitions.
