In addition to millions of tourists, the Borromean Islands also enchanted Stendhal, Liszt, and Mendelssohn. Dumas recalled them in “The Count of Montecristo”, Turner and Corot represented them in oil paintings and watercolours, D’Annunzio even tried to rent one. It consists of three islands: Isola Bella with its grandiose mansion and terraced gardens, Isola Madre with its luxurious English park, and Isola dei Pescatori, a picturesque fishing village boasting an ancient atmosphere.

A little island with the Borromeo Palace (it worths a visit!) and a garden nicely flowering in spring. You can reach it from Stresa. After the visit, I suggest a dinner on the Isola dei Pescatori.

Take the ferry to visit the Borromee islands, there are three of them, with their historic houses, sceneries and gardens, a great day trip.
