The Bocca della Verità is located inside the portico of the medieval church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, dating back to the 7th century. It can be visited with FREE entrance from 9.30am to 17/18pm. The name "Mouth of the Truth" originates in 15th century and is linked to a curious and fascinating medieval legend, according to which the mouth could bite the hand of anyone who had not told the truth.
