A hidden gem of a spot in Tasmania! It's a dirt road to the top but well worth the drive. Just remember in winter months you must carry chains when advised (but there is a shuttle as an alternative when in snow season). Avoca is at the bottom of the southern end of the National Park, though the road access is from the North.

Jacob's Ladder - climb it! Or ski the snow fields in winter... Very interesting drive up the mountain; 4WD not required, but careful driving is. Check your rental car agreement about dirt roads.

Our local, and only northern, snowfields in winter, (the only other is Mount Mawson in the Mount Field National Park), is beautiful all year round. Take the drive up Jacobs Ladder for an adventure in itself. Seven ski lifts, walks, wildlife and rock climbing. Only 40kms from your rooms. A National Parks Pass is required, visit; www.parks.gov.tas.au.
