What a stunning place to visit. There is a super visitor centre which tells the history of the place but nothing prepares you for the wonder of Abbey and then the beautiful water gardens, take a picnic this is a day visit, it is National Trust. Or if you just want a lovely walk enter via Studley Rodger and drive into the park. From the parking area go down the hill and turn left past the lake and follow the water over the seven bridges.

National Trust, great for everyone. Stunning ruins that have been used for filming. Often have activities running throughout the year. Great adventure play for children. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/fountains-abbey-and-studley-royal-water-garden

• The finest Cistercian monastic ruin in Europe, elegant Georgian water garden and medieval deer park. • Approx. 13 miles away (25 min drive)

A lovely National Trust place with ruins and a play park. If you don't have membership, then go to Studley and do the 7 rivers walk - a nice size loop for a family walk - and you can still use the Fountains cafe on the Studley side.

A stunning Cistercian abbey dating from 16th century, set in a beautiful landscape in which to walk. The water garden and deer park of Studley Royal are highly recommended, as is the English Heritage St. Mary's Church at Studley Royal. There's a cafe; and distance from here is 35 minutes drive (18 miles).
