It's a great place to spend the day with your family, is less crowded than other beaches, is staffed by lifeguards, and perfect for swimming, bodysurfing, or surfing. You can always find a picnic table here, and they are shaded. It is a bit of a hike from the parking lot, but very scenic, and worth the walk. There are restrooms right by the beach. The park is also a perfect place for bike riding, completely flat, an free of traffic.

San Clemente State Beach Park has hiking and biking trails for all ages and pets. Head out our back gate and be careful traversing the slope. Once at the street take a right towards ocean followed by a quick left up the street with the sign "San Clemente Beach Park". About 50 yards up on the right you will see a trail up a slope that leads into the coastal canyon. Explore the coastal canyon trails from here.

The beach is a narrow sandy strip in front of railroad tracks and dunes below the rugged state park. This beach is great for Surfing, Scuba Diving, Snorkeling, Camping, Hiking, Sunbathing, Fishing, Grunion Runs, and Bonfires. To get to the beach, you can access it from the day-use parking lots. However, keep in mind it requires a hike down a trail to a tunnel under the railroad tracks that opens up onto the sand. As well as a parking fee. Also of note- You can find a couple short hiking trails in the park leading to unique spots and viewpoints. For biking and a longer walk you can take the San Clemente Coastal Trail which starts here and goes northward.
