This is a stunning City. You can see the beautiful famous baroque Basilica of Santa Maria. Museo Arqueológico y de Historia de Elche You can discover and experience the history of Elche in an enjoyable and interactive exhibiton at the Palace of Altamira, dating back to 12th-century, originally it was an aristocratic family home and later used as a prison during the Spanish Civil War. You’ll see a great collection of antiques and artefacts relating to the city’s history. Don’t miss one of the city’s most iconic sights, La Dama de Elche (The Lady of Elche), a statue dating back to the 4th century BC and discovered here in 1897. Walk the palm groves Elche is world famous for being home to around 200,000 varying types of palm trees. Follow the 2.5 kilometre-long Ruta del Palmeral (Palm Grove Route) which starts and ends at the Huerto de San Plácido park, near the Museo del Palmeral (Palm Grove Museum. Huerto del Cura The Priest’s Orchard forms part of the Ruta del Palmeral and has been declared a National Historic Garden due to its outstanding beauty and historical importance. Look out for the super star attraction, namely the168-year-old Imperial Palm Tree! Additionally, there are many shops, bars and restaurants, catering for all tastes.
