If you want to just see the falls it is a short 1-2 minute walk. They are pretty amazing. You can also hike to big bend. This is around 15 kms round trip. It is through forest and follows a really old logging road. You will come out at the Athabasca river. Very peaceful and beautiful views at the bend. Was a little smoky when we went.

A 3 Hour drive from our cabin, the Sunwapta Falls are a beautiful waterfall that can be accessed via a short hike from the Icefields Parkway. This outing can be combined with a Jasper trip or Icefield Parkway sightseeing drive. Sunwapta Falls consists of upper and lower waterfalls that are fed by the Athabasca Glacier. The upper falls, which are easily accessed from the viewpoint parking lot, have an impressive drop-off of about 18m (59 ft). A 1.3 km (.8 mi) hike takes you down through a lodgepole pine forest to the lower falls. Here you'll see three waterfalls spread over the Sunwapta River.
