Scheepvaarthuis, now the Amrath Hotel, was originally built to house a group of Dutch shipping companies. The building, a jewel of the Amsterdam School of architecture, is adorned with terra cotta sculptures of famous Dutch explorers and captains. The roof-top is a stylised sea-scape. I never get tired of gazing across my canal at this incredible building !
