Take a trip through canals and chinanmpas (floating gardens) and enjoy meals through our mexican venice with marimba or mariachi groups following you in other rafts.

n southern Mexico City, a gritty working-class neighborhood gives way to the famous canals of Xochimilco, the last remnants of a vast water transport system built by the Aztecs. Colorful gondola-like boats take visitors on cruises while food vendors, artisans and mariachi bands float past. The atmosphere is festive, especially on weekends. Tourists can also visit the eerie, purportedly haunted Island of the Dolls.

To visit Xochimilco is a treat, but not for the faint of heart. Xochimilco is a series of small villages, or pueblos, that are now surrounded by the city, best known for the canals that traverse them. You can rent a "trajinera", a colorful boat, and navigate the cnaals, visit some chinampas (little islands along the canals man-made for agriculture). Other boats will approach yours to sell toys, food (delicious quesadillas!) and beverages. Even Mariachi boats navigate the canals and ask if you'd like to hear a song for a fee. It is a super fun day-trip that you surely won't forget!
