Why locals recommend it

It’s the largest cathedral in the world! As soon as you walk in, you get the strange sensation of feeling physically tiny at the same time that your mind is expanding. Gazing around, calming stained-glass windows and sculptures surround you. Right outside, the Cathedral’s cross-shaped Biblical Garden is a lovely place to reflect under a shady tree. Look for the works and faces of notables like Keith Haring, George Nakashima, Shakespeare, and Einstein sculpted into the walls. This place is filled with many little secrets.

The largest Cathedral in the world. Open for tours, concerts, events, sightseeing, and worship. Stop by the garden and see the peacocks, Harry, Jim, and Phil (yes, live peacocks in NYC!). -1047 Amsterdam Avenue at 110th Street

Gorgeous Catholic church outside and in. Inside are art installations, interesting historical plaques, and an absolutely ornate and stunning design. I'm not a Catholic, but this was worth the visit and the $5 entrance.

A Gothic Revival landmark, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Manhattan, is the world's largest cathedral. Explore artwork by Keith Haring, 17th-century tapestries, stained-glass windows, gardens and wandering peacocks. The cathedral hosts daily services, tours, concerts and choral performances. Enjoy!
