Why locals recommend it
My son can spend an entire day in the dinosaur rooms alone, but he also loves the Hall of Human Origins. Beyond the famous exhibits, the Discovery Center holds all kinds of hands-on stuff for kids—dinosaur bones, microscopes, archaeology. It’s all designed just for kids ages 5-10. Controlled, timed-entry keeps the Discovery Center from getting crowded. So as soon as you get to the museum, get your timed entry ticket from admissions. That way you can enjoy other exhibits while you wait.
Tips from locals
This is my personal favorite place in the city. There is so much to see on the inside and it's right across from Central Park. The food inside is expensive but it is the city so that's expected.
The museum sits on Central Park West between 77th and 79th streets it's the largest natural history museum in the world it has gone through a massive renovation giving a new look. There are new state-of-the art dinosaur halls, displays of animals living or extinct, ocean life, birds, and all sort of other interesting sights. It's a great place a must see. In addition, you can also catch a live program or film.
