Tips from locals
Walton Island park is a good starting point for the Elgin River walk (aka the riverwalk promenade). This park has a wide walkway all along the river that intermingles with bridges to and from islands. It features statues and art relating to Elgin’s history. There is also a dam where people like to go fishing (this is located at the very beginning of the path). If you walk the whole path it will lead you along the river to festival park and the Grand Victoria Casino. Its a beautiful walk but if you don’t want to walk all the way to the park and casino you can turn around before the large bridge underpass and head back on the other side of the island to complete a loop. Note: across the street from the parking lot for this park is the Gail Borden Library which is a large beautiful library with excellent views of the fox river and a small cafe. For additional information on food in this area check out the Grand Victoria Casino information.
