This is my all time favorite hike. It never gets old. You will not be sorry for the amazing views of the mouth of the salmon river leading into the ocean. During the spring make sure you have your allergy routine in check! This trail is well maintained.

A beautiful coastal scenic area with amazing views. Lovely wildflowers in the spring. Trail is located within the Cascade Head Scenic-Research Area, north of the Highway 101 and 18 junction 0.5 miles. The south trailhead is located at the corner of Highway 101 and Three Rocks Road. This trail runs north to south within the Cascade Head Scenic Research Area. This Sitka Spruce-Western Hemlock rainforest has been studied by foresters since 1934. This trail is less crowded than the other two popular trails in the area – it is entirely inland and has no viewpoints. Mid-way on the trail near the headwaters of Calkins Creek there remains a grove of six-foot diameter Sitka spruce.
