Across the border in France, 9km southeast of Geneva, this cable car, in operation since 1932, will whisk you to an altitude of 1100m at the summit of Mont Salève for breathtaking views of Geneva, Lake Geneva, the Jura Mountains and the Alps, with (if you're lucky) a clear view of the majestic Mont Blanc massif.

The best views of the city can be found here at the Saleve. There is a cable car that will take you up to the top, or you can hike for about 2.5 hours on a clearly marked intermediate terrain. It's located in France but there is public transport that will take you to the border where you walk over and head up. It's definitely worth doing!

The cable car takes you to the top of Salève, the mountain overlooking the city. Beautiful sight of the whole city and the lake. If you're adventurous you can go up by foot, good workout, take around an hour.
