A Medieval City, well preserved and devoted to San Jacopo, that is Santiago de Compostela, twin city in Spain. This is an unrevealed Tuscany, off the beaten track

Really beautiful town, it should be more famous.

A small but lovely city center, definitely worthy a short visit. Don't forget to stop at Schiacciapensieri for a quick lunch or dinner: you'll find the best Tuscan schiacciata (and lovely hosts).

Easy to reach both by car and by train, the historic center is perfect for spending a beautiful half day, walking around it, visiting churches and museums. It was once surrounded by three circles of walls and today there is still some evidence of it in the basement of the city, visible by visiting the archaeological museum inside the Palazzo dei Vescovi in Piazza del Duomo or the underground tunnels under the hospital. The Ospedale del Ceppo with the Della Robbia frieze in glazed terracotta is one of the most admired attractions in the city. The Duomo is the main square, around which the most important buildings overlook: the Town Hall, the Cathedral of San Zeno, the Palazzo dei Vescovi, the Baptistery and the bell tower. Not far from Pistoia is Serravalle which still retains the ancient, typically medieval structure, so perched to strategically control the surrounding area.
