It's worth it! Take a train to North Berwick - for around £10 a day (kids travel free!), you can sit on the beach, paddle in the sea, eat fish and chips at the harbour, take a boat trip round the Bass Rock, build sand castles and come home exhausted!

It has the best beach outside Edinburgh, lots of independent shops selling a wide range of unique gifts and beautiful houses overlooking the beach as well as an interesting seabird centre. Boat trips out to Bass Rock run regularly. It also is only a half an hour ride on the train from Waverley.
