Harada-san's place is reminiscent of the traditional Japanese houses but with modern amenities and very clean. It was a very comfortable stay for our family of 5 - both the sleeping area and kitchen are are very wide and comfortable. It's nice that we can immediately park in front of the house. Harada-san lives in the neighbouring house and actually swap our dirty towels everyday. We also appreciate her timely reminder to book the Alpine Kurobe public transport tickets and her sharing of alternative local tour bus option to get to the snow wall (very economical too). The surrounding neighbourhood is peaceful, aesthetic and walkable - with the Alps in the background on clear days. Beyond happy with this stay. Highly recommended if you are planning to stay before going to the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route.

Hira no Takayama

Our stay at Nao's was really nice, the house is very beautiful, between design and traditional, the bathroom is beautifully thought out. Nao allowed us to arrive earlier and enjoy the apartment a little more, it was very nice of her. We decided to cook in the evening, with the utensils offered, it was simple but good. If you want to relax and take a break during your trip, this is a perfect place! thank you again

Our stay here was absolutely lovely. The villa is even more lovely than in the pictures, was super clean and had great amenities. The host was so friendly and helpful and very responsive over message. We really enjoyed how beautiful and peaceful the area is, and there are lots of lovely local cafes and restaurants a short drive away, as well as lots of hiking opportunities. We would love to stay here again if we are ever back in Japan. Thanks so much!

The house as well as the experience was amazing, it is much more beautiful than the photos. It’s one of the most beautiful renovated Japanese homes I’ve been in. The hosts are really friendly and helpful to give us recommendations which made our trip so enjoyable. If I travel to Gifu again I’d definitely stay again!

Traditional Townhouse & Garden in Quiet Castletown

DanielleRating, 5 stars1 week ago
This was the most beautiful traditional Japanese home in such a lovely town. Everything in the house felt carefully curated and really well looked after. The garden was a true highlight - peaceful and beautifully maintained. The town was super walkable, and the host shared great local recommendations. An all-around amazing stay!
A grill set over glowing embers holds several pieces of grilled rice cakes. The cakes are variously browned, showcasing a homemade cooking experience in a sandy outdoor setting.
