We were on the way back from Pahalgam to Srinagar (after the deadliest attack) when I contacted Suraiya maam about the availability of the listing. It was an impromptu plan to Srinagar due to obvious reasons but I received the response within 5 minutes. We were all horrified about what happened in Pahalgam but Suraiya maam and the caretakers of the homestay made us feel very safe and comfortable. We slept very peacefully. The homestay was very cosy and my parents also find it homely. Cleanliness was upto the mark. Breakfast served was very nice. Overall, we had a very homely, pleasant and satisfying environment at this homestay. Will definitely come back here whenever in Srinagar next time. Would highly recommend this homestay if you are in Srinagar. It’s right at the centre of the city.

The house is situated at foothills of Sangreshi mountain and the view is so pleasing to eyes especially garnished with the sweet sounds of birds in early morning. As mentioned in listing it is 25 Kms from Airport and takes an hour to reach as the traffic woes are everywhere. Kousar Aunty’s homemade and simple food was amazing and we loved it all. Our return flight was at 7:50 AM in morning and we had to leave by 5:15 AM and Kousar Aunty gave some some packed Sandwiches which we enjoyed at Airport. Really appreciated her waking up so early for us. Mr. Bashir arranged our Cab and I must say the Cab guy was perfect and least annoying and never cribbed for any extended time spent by us in market or else where. One suggestion is if an Electric kettle is placed in the rooms it would be nice and gives some freedom to make tea coffee at any point of time.

When travelling to Srinagar at least one night one should stay at a houseboat, just to get a slight feeling of what the past of this place might have been like. Javid was a great host, always checking in on me before during and after my trip. He gave me some great tips about how to move around. Also, there is a gentle boat guide collaborating with Javid and he speaks English quite well and knows very much about the changes of the past decades in his canals. I give his place five Stars for the beautiful experience. Namaste for this! Some tips though for travellers with sensible senses: Take some earbuds with you. The night I was there, the neighbours beside the boat were talking loudly and they also watched TV with open doors at night. Also, come in Spring or Summer. In Winter the room might not be warm enough for a comfortable night's sleep. I was unlucky that due to the wind, the electricity was off, so the heater wouldn't work either. But these are minor things you can prepare for.

Kashana Cottage, for us, was the segue of the sweetest host and the serene home of all time. Quietude is one word which intersect my thoughts when I think of Saira mam’s place. THE PLACE : Designed cozy enough for a family of 4, the cottage has everything you need ranging from all kitchen essentials to vital accessories for a well comfortable stay. One king-sized bedroom, a well-thought tea room, 2 washrooms and 2 single beds laid out in the main entrance room basically paints the place. THE HOST : An unprecedented experience for me, Saira mam was akin to a caring mother. Diarrhoea left me bed-bound for a day and she made me eat freshly prepared Khichdi and even gave me ORS and I was sprung to normality, the same evening. Words can’t suffice her benevolence towards me and my family. Asif is the caretaker and he is an excellent person, who is just a call away for anything you need. My parents simply loved all of Kashana and I thank you dearly for hosting a magnificent home.

For an affordable and truly enriching houseboat experience, Gulam Bhai Houseboat is an absolute treasure. Gulam Bhai himself is remarkably hospitable, extending the warmth and helpfulness of an elder brother. I wholeheartedly endorse his establishment. While the rooms may not offer direct views, stepping out onto the balcony provides an enchanting panorama of the serene lake and majestic mountains. This tranquil setting, coupled with Gulam Bhai's delightful kahwa, creates an unforgettable ambiance. I am certain to return.
