What a cool adventure! On the one hand, you have the upcountry travel experience staying in a mud wall house and watching your tea being made over a 3 stone fire, but at the same time you have safe drinking water and a cozy bed and power for your phone. Kennedy and his lovely wife Lucy had me feeling just at home. Breakfast was lovely, and the tour around the village with his son was lots of fun. If you want the upcountry experience but with some creature comforts, this is a great choice. I will definitely be back!

Rusinga Island Sunset Homestay

Where are we? We are located in Rusinga Island, which is a small island in lake Victoria but connected to the mainland by a bridge. Mbita is the nearest town on the mainland and 8 km away from the homestead. The lake is always in sight and only a 5 minute walk away. On the island you will find mainly small farms with the families living either in the traditional mud huts or more modern brick houses. Several small villages are spread around the island, Kolunga Beach being the closest.

For those who would want to be away from noise and want to have a peaceful get away from work. This place is ideal. For those who would come for short term work maybe a week or so or even a month. The space is within my compound but a few metres away from my house. Am always present and ensure the guests are well taken care of. The VIP HOTEL is located just afew metres away from us. They have a swimming pool just in case the guests want to swim. This is an upcountry setting.

We were absolutely thrilled by the villa itself and its location! On top of it Epi and Patrick prepared a dinner (actualy dinners!) and breakfast, even we havent asked for…They were absolutely lovely and I am so happy we havent gone to hotel, what was my original intention…
