One of Peru's best kept secrets just keeps getting better and better. If you're looking for a trip that won't cost a fortune and takes you a bit off the beaten path, look no further than Eco Quechua Lodge, situated in Santa Teresa, Peru.
“We had a nice stay at Eco Quechua Lodge. It was a beautiful, quiet place to relax and it was really nice to fall asleep to the sound of the river. The hot springs were great to visit and close by. We took a moto-taxi once and walked another time. We also enjoyed the zip line up the hill (Vertikal Zip Line). We stayed for 2 nights since it is not easy to get to Santa Teresa and walked from Hidroeléctrica to Aguas Calientes early the second morning.”
This is one of two Backpacker-Style rooms offering simple yet comfortable accommodation for those on their way to Machu Picchu on their own. The real beauty of this place is outside so most guests do not spend a lot of time in their rooms anyway. The gardens and surroundings areas are lush and full of things to do or simply relax in a hammock and read a book. This room has two bunk beds and is usually booked out by small groups. Currently we do not leave the room open for bookings once a bed has been reserved, so you may end up having the space to yourself. We may change this policy in the future.
“The family was so amazing! We loved every minute of our stay. Olga, you are an amazing cook and wonderful host. Angel is a great guide and we loved learning about Peru, the farm and the local plants and animals. Gueidar was so friendly and arranged our taxi to Aguas Calientes he also made sure we always had something to eat and checked in often. The farm is located in Quellomayo, which is definitely fun to get to....well maybe not so much if you get car sick. The road is CRAZY! Make sure you have coca leaves to chew on or you might need to stop and throw up. Richard got sick on the drive, but he's prone to motion sickness. I was fine 🤷🏽♀️ The ride is absolutely stunning and the farm is just as beautiful. The room we stayed in was very comfortable and private. There is an outdoor bathroom right next to the room and it was never scary to go at any time, day or night. The showers were cold, but it's really not too bad. It was invigorating after exploring! Angel took the guests (two others staying) and Richard up the mountain to a view point and showed them different plants and explained a little about the trail. He also walked us down to the natural hot springs near by and that was so wonderful. (Be warned about the sand flies though! We got a ton of bites. I'd say to rub shampoo into your skin as a protectant and to wear clothes that cover you up.) Olga made us the most delicious meals and we enjoyed a family style breakfast and dinner every day. If you have the chance for Olga to feed you, take it! The farm has a few dogs, cats, chickens, ducks & turkeys and the black cat named "Jimmy Hendrix" kept me company most of the time. On our last day we did the coffee and chocolate workshop. We would definitely recommend doing these! It's a beautiful learning experience and we appreciate the art that goes into their products. Thank you again for allowing us to stay in your home and be a part of your life! Until next time! We will upload lots of pictures soon - Richard & Vanessa! IG: @trupiercings & is a @richard_dc210”
the room has a nice well lit view with private bathroom hot shower for two people (we recommend staying two nights for a quiet and pleasant walk)
“His place is just 2 blocks away from train station, the room I had had a spectacular view at the mountains you can not beat that. He will give you tip for your excursion, he also offers you an option for a tour guide but for me it is not really necessary you can do it all by yourself. Overall it was a great place to stay the night. Thank you yuri for everything.”
