The main New Town branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland, if you need to do any banking, it is worth a visit. I was built by Sir Lawrence Dundas, who stands on the pillar in St Andrews Square. It was originally built as a " party pad " to entertain guests on a lavish scale.

The New Town construction was began in 1763 in order to provide housing for the well to do and titled families because of the serious overcrowding the the Old Town of Edinburgh, it originaly was three streets, 2 Squares, and large gardens for the use of the residents.
