Food Scene

Mt Shasta has a wide variety of places to dine, from walk up carts to Mt Shasta Resort near Lake Siskiyou. Having lived here over 25 years, my husband and I have our special stops plus those that our friends like. We've tried to provide you with a range of choices and options for any time of day and hunger!
Indoor and outdoor dining, great food! Wraps, salads, pastries, and in winter one or two fabulous home made soups. Very well known and small quaint old house. Very busy with skiiers and people going up the mountain so prepare to wait a little while. It is worth it!

Great drinks and you can eat full service from the menu or just the bar menu (which is also good) during certain hours. Comfy chairs and fun place locals go as well as all the guests from the Best Western Plus Motel where Coopers is located. Locals fill up the place on Thanksgiving! If you get there early enough, you can grab a spot to sit in front of the huge log fireplace and enjoy a drink from the bar while waiting for your table! Summertime you can sit at the outside patio looking at Mt Shasta.

This is so much more than a campground. The only public beach access to Lake Siskiyou that has amenities, you can sunbathe on the 600' white sand swimming beach, splash for an hour or the whole day at the Splash Zone and rent a pedal boat, kayaks, canoes or rafts at the beach or head over to the boat launch area and rent a patio boat that seats up to 8-12. You'll find a full service grocery and lake supplies/gift shop and deli. There is a bait & tackle shop, fishing dock and fish cleaning station. If you don't feel like doing anything but swimming and dining, check out the Lake Sis Grille & Brew with wine/beer/burgers, hot dogs & pizzas! Great food. Free parking, entrance fee to the resort is $1.00/per person.

Big screen TV's, great salad bar, all you can eat lunch buffet 11:30-2:00 M-F. 12 ice cold beers, game room for kids, pool tables, ice cream counter, daily soup and several kinds of pizzas. This has been a local spot for years-from business people stopping for lunch to groups coming to celebrate birthdays or big game days. I've never heard a complaint from anyone! They also deliver to Holly House. :-)

You don't need to be a golfer to enjoy the wonderful restaurant and bar at the resort. Located on an award winning golf course, the views in the dining room and bar (especially the deck off the bar in the summer) are incredible. Watch the wildlife in the various ponds or just gaze at the unobstructed Mt Shasta and Mt Eddy views. The food is consistently good, they will customize your meal with a smile and the full bar is well stocked. When someone asks me to lunch and where do I want to go, I almost always say "the resort"!

Open Thur-Mon 4-9PM this is a fun place to eat casually outside surrounded by Native Grounds Nursery. Menu is strictly limited to wood fired pizza and a few salads with several beers on tap. If your wallet is a bit thin, make sure to ask the prices of items prior to ordering. When my husband and I tried it we were surprised to find that a pizza, two small ceasar salads and two beers with tax and tip came to over $53.00.

Anyone traveling up and down the 1-5 corridor in Calif knows of the Black Bear Diner. This one is where it all started. A very popular diner with travelers, it is also a locals favorite when you are really hungry! On Fridays they have all you can eat fish fry with great fish and fries and yummy cole slaw! You can never say you walked away hungry after dining at the Bear. But leave room for their cobblers ala mode!

For 30 plus years, Berryvale has been a landmark health food store and deli in Mt Shasta. Great selection of everything including vitamins and supplements, beer & wine (sake too!) cooler with wide selection of drinks. Nice café style setting for dining in what you pickup in the deli. If you can't find something ask a staff person, they will get you the person who has the answer.

This store has the outdoor wood fired grills going every F/S/S and make the best ribs/tri tip/chicken/meatloaf anywhere. The store has a deli for sandwiches or sliced meats and cheeses and a great selection of wines/teas/coffees and beer that is really cold. It is also a great stop to run in and pick up any number of things that any large grocery carries without the hassle. The owner worked there as a teen bagging groceries and now owns this store and the market in Dunsmuir. They carry local Siskiyou County Prather Ranch meats, organic groceries and Diestel turkey. They also carry the full line of Crystal Dairy products-a family farm co op in Redding that does not treat with Bst or hormones and has the best tasting dairy products I've ever had. My husband and I shop there more often than the big stores.

Over 150 years old, this fish hatchery is a must see while visiting our area. You can purchase small bags of food to feed the fish (amazing to watch them go after it) and kids can fish in a small pond. You will see some of the biggest trout ever. And watch for the eagles-especially bald eagles that hang around hoping for a meal! While there, go next door to the Sisson museum for a pleasant history of the area.

Parks & Nature

One of the reasons locals choose to live here is the abundance of nature out our front doorsteps. We experience 4 seasons but none are extremely harsh which gives visitors and locals alike the opportunity to explore nature in so many ways-hiking, biking, horseback riding, snowshoeing, cross country & downhill skiing and every kind of water sports imaginable. With over 78% of our county designated as "open space" ie owned by the government, railroads and timber companies, there is never a feeling of "confinement" or congestion when you step outside and look around you. Our parks are expansive and unique and should be visited to truly experience why Mt Shasta is called "Where Heaven & Earth Meet"...
Large park with bike park and skate park, tennis courts, dog areas and awesome views of Mt Shasta. In winter Shastice has the largest open air ice rink on the west coast. The Sacramento River is one of the most impressive natural resources in all of California, and while you are visiting Mount Shasta, you can take this quick stop to visit its humble beginnings. Mount Shasta City Park, on the outskirts of town, features the start of the river and has become an almost spiritual spot for people to visit and drink from. I saw a half dozen people come fill up water bottles while I was there. It is a peaceful place for a quick visit. Family friendly with kids playground, hike past the headwaters of the Sacramento (don't forget to stop and fill your water bottles!) or just walk around the quaint log buildings that were built by Chico State University for a northern campus. Long ago donated to the city, the buildings are now used for events and meetings or classes. Seniors get a free hot lunch M-F at the main lodge.
