Fantastic high end tap room and restaurant, new British and American cuisine. Option to dine on the porch or have a cocktail on the big front lawn. “Provisions” is their daytime cafe section of the inn, with great coffee, breakfast and sandwiches. Great place to work during the day.

Harney & Sons has a tea room for breakfast and lunch, but what really makes it special is it's tasting room, where you can sample and purchase hundreds of types of loose leaf teas.

A bit of a drive away (though a pretty one at 30 minutes), this bar is worth the journey. Set in a tiny hamlet across from the train tracks, the bar has been taken over by NYC transplants and is very family friendly. They do great wood fired pizzas, and they've recently opened a huge beer garden outside that is great for people with children.

The Great Falls is an amazing cascading waterfalls on the Housatonic River, just a few minutes walk from our house. Many times you can hear the falls from our deck. From our dirt driveway, take a right to walk down Sugar Hill Road, take a left onto River Road, then look for signboard and trail on your right. This leads to Falls but also there AT trail is here.

You can get onto the AT on foot near our house and hike up to Rands View. Walk down to Great Falls trail head on River Road (see description above), and the AT crosses River Road there. So look for a trail to the left, walking up hill away from Great Falls.

Ask me for more advice on how to find this trail, but basically, if you take a left out of our dirt driveway and walk UP Sugar Hill Road to the very end, you’ll see it becomes a dirt road (ignore private signs, it’s a public trail over a private driveway for first part.) Continue on dirt road and then look for foot trail on your right, marked by 2 white blazes on a tree. This trail is a spur of the AT and will take you to a lean-to and then up a steep hill to the AT itself. You can take a right there on the AT and hike back to the Great Falls near our house, or take a left and hike to Salisbury!
