Pronounced "La Way" this is one of my favorite local restaurants. It is small with seating for only about 25-30 but the food is very good and fresh. It has almost a Vietnamese menu. I'm a meat eater (I love steak) but when I eat here I order Asian eggplant with tofu; every time.

This is a Louisville institution when it comes to fine dining. The atmosphere is casual but the food is exquisite and the patrons are often Louisville's power brokers. It will set your wallet back but wonderful for a celebration visit.

This is a Louisville original and has been around for a long time. The food is good, the service is good and the prices are modest. The menu isn't very trendy but if you do go order the green chili wantons for an appetizer. You won't regret it.

Has a little bit of a chain feel but it is very local. Some good pizza choices other than pepperoni, supreme and cheese. I hear the beer selection is pretty good, but I'm a bourbon man so take that for what it is worth.

This is a small neighborhood park but perfect for a picnic or taking kids to run around. It has some playground equipment, tennis courts and basketball courts. In the winter when it snows it is a popular sledding spot.

This is a great small local bookstore. The selections lean to the liberal taste. It's also right next door to Ramsi's so you can browse while you wait for a table.

Essentials

Okay, maybe in your book an ice cream store isn't an essential but in my book it is. This is a local company that is winning a lot of awards. The ice cream is very rich and they have some very different flavors. They have pre-packed pints ready to take home. They also have cake and pie but those really aren't essential.

Great place for hair needs. Bill and Shannon are friends and he is a very good stylist. My wife's hair always looks good. Ask for a glass of wine while you get the treatment.
