Food Scene

This a great little restaurant, very small with only a few tables outside, however the staff are usually on-point, the salads are nice and big and the other options tasty. Good selection of wines of course too. NB: there is another around the corner on E.E.U.U called el Refuerzo Almacen (an almacen is like a general store) which is also a little bigger and the street, a little quieter, but this is our personal fav! Visitors can benefit because they eat earlier than the locals therefore your chances of a table are greater!

Drinks & Nightlife

Well this is something special and actually recently became a private member's club and foundation. Once a family home, it is now place to conduct meetings during the day, swim, drink, bistro style kitchen for snacks and there is even a viewing room. Usually there are live events and they are partnered with Campari, Zucardi wines, Havana Club and the now famous Coffee Town. You can check their site, sometimes they have public events, or if you would like to see it contact Andi or I directly via mail and we could arrange to accompany you.

NUMBER 1 PICK for MONDAY I mentioned above that most galleries etc are closed Mondays which means this is the best day to ride a bike and get to know the city and its culture via local guides, in the evening the best thing to do hands-down on a Monday is visit this show at the KONEX. Orchestrated drumming with a different invited special guest artist each week, this 15 strong ensemble will have you jumping with the locals, dale boludo! NB: hot tip, is to buy a bottle of beer from the kiosko on the corner (kiosko is a small dairy store), and imbibe the atmosphere on the street as you queue for tickets to enter (sometimes the queue stretches around the block), once inside you will work it out!

Sightseeing

We just had to include these guys! Buenos Aires is flat, so biking Buenos Aires just makes sense, (address above is wrong, Peru 988), this company out shines the dozens of other "tour" companies, as they seem more focused on personalised "experiences". Yes of course you see the main hilights of the city on their all-day all-inclusive rides, (which are easy as the city is flat except for one hill in Recoleta) in the South here there is of course the open-air gallery, El Caminito (little walkway), Park Lezama ( once the second largest slave trading site in Suth America), and they have a host of off-the-beaten-path experiences on offer too.

Parks & Nature

Birdwatchers look-out! hundreds of the tweety things in there (around 400 different species), iguana, snake, the little mini capybaras, turtles. Great for early morning runs, but not too early as it opens at 8am, walking you must take water as there is little to no shade, best option is to bike around it, better option is to be guided the first time, look up Biking Heart of the City as they do a circuit which takes you right out to the river NB: the reserve like most of the galleries etc are closed on Mondays (and rainy days).

Arts & Culture

The cafe is disappointing food-wise, but the view is great from the balcony . The port is where more than 8 million people arrived over a 10-15 year period and where the Italian anarchists even raised their Black flag announcing it as Republica de La Boca (which lasted only a few days). The gallery is modern, beautifully designed, contains a book store and most importantly is air conditioned! If art and culture are your thing, and you also like street art, craft beer and hammocks, let me know and I will arrange something special which includes PROA gallery and more!

Shopping

The Sunday street fair in San Telmo is one of the oldest in the world. Expect to spend the whole day here browsing artesenal stalls, listening to live music and eating street food and icecream. This was the old elite quarter yet ironically, many of the 15000 that died in the neighbourhood in the late 1800's were never buried here. If you notice the old tram lines on some of the cobbled streets, know that they were put in for the carriages to cart away the bodies when all of the carpenters had died... So, now you know why there are so many amazing antiques for sale in this neighbourhood ask us for the full bloody story!

Essentials

The search engine doesn't allow for pinning and I would not recommend the place marked for eating, however diagonally across from it there is what we refer to as a "Chino" or mini supermarket (most of them are run by Koreans not Chinese), if you are buying beer they charge you for the returnable bottle which you can have refunded later. Some of these places will change money for you at a reasonable rate.
