I love this place for it's great food and the "It's 5 o'clock somewhere" vibe! From the website: "Come enjoy breathtaking views of nature at its finest … and while you’re here, enjoy the finest cuisine the Coastal Bend has to offer. We specialize in freshly prepared seafood and unique “Marina Munchies,” plus steaks, Rockport’s best burgers, and delicious tropical drinks. Whether by car or boat, come to see spectacular views of the bay and wildlife preserve from our panoramic indoor dining room or dockside bar and dining area. We are open 7 days a week and feature live music, Thursday through Sunday. Bring along family, friends, or groups to enjoy great food, drinks, music, and views in our friendly, beach-casual atmosphere. Give us a call at (361) 729-6000 or just drop in and join the fun!" Amazing buffet! Each night has a different featured meat dish-all a scrumptious! The vegetables, salads, desserts are to "die for." It is ALL homemade and you'll feel like you are eating at Grandma's house.

Redfish Willies is a cajun style seafood restaurant on the water. Its a little out of the way, but still convenient to get to. They often have live music, and because its right on the water, you will feel he Bay breeze as you dine. There is a covered dining room that has sliding doors that are opened when the weather is nice (most of the year), and also outdoor patio dining where you can sit near the band. Go early because it can get crowded. Medium budget.

FISHING, BEACHES, NATURE

If you want to fish you have come to the best place! Fish off the FREE Bayside pier or walk across the street from the cottage, wade in and drop your line. Fishing the bays and surf around Corpus Christi is a year-round pursuit, by boat, kayak and on foot. Too many to list, so I simply provide you with a link to read a list.
Fennessey Ranch is known for some of the best bird watching in South Texas. Many award-winning photographs have been taken there. Look on the bookshelf in our living room to view some of the Wildlife photos taken there. This book is a signed copy by Brian Dunn who established Fennessey Ranch as a permanent wildlife refuge. His signature is hard to read because he was in an advanced stage of Multiple Sclerosis when he signed it. He succumbed to the illness in 2016. His legacy lives on at Fennessey.

Its just fabulous and a guest recommended it. From the website: Sand and Surf With more than five miles of coastline, we have plenty of room for fun in the sun. Hang out on the beach, fish in the bay, add birds to your life list, and explore this unspoiled barrier island park. It’s time to head to the coast! Things to Do At Mustang Island State Park, what you do is up to you. You can play at the beach (swim, surf, build a sand castle), camp, picnic, fish, hike, mountain bike, kayak, bird watch (especially during spring and fall migrations) and geocache. Paddle the Mustang Island State Park Paddling Trail. The three segments of the trail follow the western shoreline of the island in Corpus Christi Bay. The 20 miles of trails pass through some of the best shallow-water fishing areas in Texas. Enjoy close-up views of coastal birds.

One of its historical backgrounds is being the place where the first Declaration of Texas Independence was signed on December 20, 1835. This event inspired the battle cry "Remember Goliad," at the battle of San Jacinto." Home of Presidio La Bahia and Mission Espiritu Santo, there is so much to learn about Texas history there. More historic than the Alamo and far less touristy than the Alamo site, you will learn about the Texas Revolution and hear the story of Fannin and his men were massacred on Palm Sunday. Its a tragic story of immense sacrifice and cruelty. Visit Fannin's grave, walk in the barracks. There are reenactments of the tragic Palm Sunday every year. I urge you to put this on your list of "to do" items. There is SO much to do and see in Goliad in addition to the missions and Fort. There are hike and bike trails, Historic Downtown Homes, museums, canoe trails, and even golf.

Fabulous beach. There's so much to say about Padre Island it would be a Guidebook in itself. Read about it on wikipedia: "Padre Island is the largest of the Texas barrier islands and is the world's longest barrier island. It is part of the U.S. state of Texas." You can just hang out on the beach-when I was a kid we'd camp out on the beach overnight on cots, or go to many of the great touristy places for lots of other fun and sightseeing. Listed on TripAdvisor as one of the top things to do in the area. I haven't done this, but it does sound like it would be extremely interesting. Its a bit pricey, but sounds like it would be a once in a lifetime experience to remember your trip! From the website: http://www.texanwarbirdadventures.com/mission-planning.html Authentic Warbird Flights: A 30 minute flight includes flying along Corpus Christi Bay with a view of downtown Corpus Christi, the USS Lexington, Harbor Bridge, Texas State Aquarium, and Whataburger Field. Also included is a trip to Port Aransas to see the Intracoastal Waterway and an aerial view of the beach. Pricing: $300 for 1/2 hour flight Call to receive more information about Aerial Photography, Fly-Overs, Sightseeing, and Special Events.

Essentials

If you are driving into Bayside on I59 and pass through Refugio, the HEB is a good place to stop to buy the groceries you will need during your stay. There are also H.E.B.s in Rockport and Portland-both of those also carry organic foods.

There are several WalMarts near Bayside-the one in Portland is probably the closest, but there are also WalMarts in Rockport, Aransas Pass, and of course Corpus Christi if you want to combine a shopping trip with one of your fun destinations.

Tiny, quaint Bayside has a convenience store if you forget some essential. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bayside-Grocery/628963203847527 Like all convenience stores, they are a bit higher priced on items, but if you want to pick up beer or bottled water, or a razor, you don't have to go far.
