Dreamtime Beach, as its Indigenous-inspired name suggests, does leave beach goers wistful. It’s full of wonderment as a stunning stretch of sand to relax on and really celebrate the senses, refresh the spirit and experience a superb gift of nature in a seemingly far-away setting. It was the land of the Minjungbal people. Remarkably this long quiet beach is less than 15 minutes from the heart of busy Tweed Heads on the QLD/NSW border. It’s a 5km gently curving beach with generously vegetated wide pristine sands south to the delightful Tweed Coast village of Kingscliff.

Fingal beach is a gorgeous stretch of beach along the far north coast of NSW. On Marine Pde, the upgraded Fingal Rovers Surf Life Saving Club is one of the town’s oldest establishments. In town there are a handful of cafes, with the Sheoak Gallery Shack featuring live music, art and food. The walk down the old lighthouse track leads to the stone lighthouse, which is painted white, and was erected in 1872.

There’s plenty of character to be had in one of the Gold Coast’s most laid-back beach destinations and home to Kirra Surf which surfies consider the one-stop shop for surf gear. This is not a place for glitz and glamour, you’ll still find plenty of weatherboard beach shacks here among the burgeoning apartment scene. There’s also a cute café scene emerging here but for a true taste of Kirra, head to the iconic Kirra Beach Hotel which has been trading for more than 50 years. There’s even accommodation upstairs in this pub offering views of the ocean and the Gold Coast foreshore. There may be variations on what Kirra means, but like a boomerang, you’ll just keep coming back
