Food Scene

Big choice of breakfast and giant pieces of cake. There's usually a lot of people during the weekend but as it is pretty spacious, it's possible to find a place without a reservation if you can wait 5 mins.

Brunch on Sundays (recommended to make a reservation). Also a nice place for having coffee & cake in the afternoon or dinner in the evening.

Pretty "hip" currently. For breakfast, coffee & small meals. Yummy juices, cakes and other small stuff. A bit pricy compared to Anna Blume and Bar Gagarin and maybe not the right place if you are looking for a typical German breakfast. Reservation necessary for breakfast on weekends.

Their bestseller are burgers (the patty comes on a hot stone and you can "assemble" it yourself) but they also have other things on the menu (mediterranean, also some vegan and veggie options) . Very popular, if you plan to go for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays, its better with a reservation.

Vietnamese restaurant. Most popular Asian place in the neighbourhood I would say. Adjacent to the "Wassertum" (old water tower).

Asian restaurant. For me the place to go for sushi (though there a many more in the area). They also serve "Asian tapas" i.e. small portions from different dishes, so you can try different things. Yummy homemade lemonades.

Parks & Nature

I always go running there. Its a 15 mins walk or a 5 mins jog to get there. Very popular in summertime, you will see a lot of people barbecuing or just hanging out on the lawn. There is a small lake, childrens playground & a cafe. Open air cinema in July & August. You will pass a lot of cafes and restaurants on your way there (via Hufelandstraße).

A bit further away (approx 30 mins with Sbahn) but worth the journey especially in summertime as bigger and less crowded compared to Volkspark Friedrichshain. Also it goes along the Spree river which gives it a nice atmosphere. You could just sit by the shore and watch boats pass by or rent a pedal boat yourself. Don't miss "Insel der Jugend" (Island of Youth) a small island in the river Spree.

Whenever I am in a hurry in the morning and dont find time for breakfast, I grab something from here before heading to the office. One of the few small bakeries still left in Berlin (not part of a bigger chain). They are in Prenzlauer Allee (3 mins walk from the house) next to the lidl supermarket and have a second store in Winstraße. They also have a good choice of cakes.

Everything Else

There is a market around Kollwitzplatz on Saturdays (morning and early afternoon) where you can buy fresh fruit, veggies, bread, cheese etc, get a handmade leather bag or ring or just have a glass of wine.
