Parks & Nature

And a beautiful beach. If you hike up the mountain you'll be above the buildings and have a cool view, for some awesome pics at sunset of Mākaha Valley. Mauna Lahilahi is a sacred place used to mark the passage of time in ancients days. It was also a place for fish spotting, once you get to the top you'll see why. The trail starts up the ridge on the street side of the mountain, be careful as this is crumbly rock, you should be fine just don't be cliff hanging. :)

Go westward till you can't go any further (about 15 min drive from Mākaha), Park at the end of Farrington Hwy, don't leave any valuables in your car. This is a beautiful hike, but don't forget the water as it is hot hence the name "Ka 'ena" - the red hot. Bring your water bottle, best to do the hike in the early morning to avoid the sun or in the later afternoon. If the is cloud cover then you lucked out!!! At the end is the sea bird sanctuary, you'll see bird nests all over the place!!

A beautiful paved hike with a great view. Very popular and not too crowded on the WEEKDAYS. Ends with a light house at the top and some great Picture opportunities especially if you do a super early bird hike and catch the sunrise (yes it's on the east side and you'll need to wake up very early to get there, but hey, your here to see some stuff and experience some cool stuff right, so get your butt up and let's do this, you won't regret it!)

Arts & Culture

On Saturdays there is a farmers market, good place to get some local food ideas, try the organic produce and don't forget the "Lomilomi" normally there is a practitioner there where you can experience the healing touch of Ancient Hawai'i's massage practice (with a modern twist, traditionally our healing traditions were had much to do with our cultural belief system, but you can benefit from part of the physical aspect of it)

Drinks & Nightlife

This up scale bar and grill is right across the street from Aulani, yes touristy but a great place for some drinks, live music and good food. You'll like it, if you sit outside you can be right next to the live music. We go there every once and a while, good drinks and cocktails. MUST TRY the bulgogi tacos, you'll probably want more!
