Handmade pizza with class; not your cheapy-takeaway. While you wait, enjoy a game of pinball, grab some fairy-floss (cotton candy) for the kids, and if the bottleshop next door is open, then BYO :)

Scenic brunch spot with a twist! Leave the pets at home and bring the kids to see the farm animals. Locally grown produce comes straight from farm to kitchen. Even the water is sourced from the farm, using solar-powered dehumidifiers.

One for the fans: see the birthplace of famous Aussie rapper "Iggy Azalea". Iggy grew up locally in "Mullum" (as the locals call it), then known as little Amethyst Amelia Kelly, one of three kids living in Azalea St Mullum, with their dog Iggy.

So much in Ballina, also known as "Ballina by the sea". Historic landmarks from the logging days, old cemeteries, canoe around the entire town or drop into the waterpark.

A village lost in the 1960's, replete with rainbows, real-life hippies and a Weed Museum. Be warned that you may be offered "local produce" from farmers that is not-so-legal. "Just say No, Thanks" and try some vegetarian food from the local cafe instead

Traveler advice

Getting around

Bicycle, scooter, or walk to avoid traffic jams

Even paradise can get busy at times, and during peak season, you may experience long delays going in or out of town, or to the beach. Car traffic can queue across roundabouts and intersections. You will see many people with bikes, scooters or casually strolling around with a smile because they are not stuck in traffic ;)
Ways to save

Woolworths and Aldi: not just for groceries

Forgot to pack your hat, thongs, socks or underwear? The main street in town can be expensive as it is often upmarket fashion, not $5 (flip-flops) thongs or $2 jocks. You can occasionally buy cheaper emergency clothing top-ups at Aldi or Woolworths. The Retro Clothing store in Centennial Drive is just a walk from the house. You will also find thrift shops such as Lifeline, SVDP ("Vinnies"), Global Ripple Op Shop or Salvos in the main part of town.
Ways to save

cheap and cheery vegetarian food

Many great restaurants offer fine dining for gourmets at appropriate prices. If you are looking for some cheap and cheery homestyle comfort food, try the old "Govindas" (rebadged as The Cardamom Pod) in Lawson St. Meals are made with love and budget-friendly enough for backpackers. Stocks can run out fast during peak season, so be early.
