The thin sand combined with the crystal clear and shallow waters of the sea create a magical exotic scenery. This is why thousands of people visit the beach every year, a beach that was awarded with the European Blue Flag since 2006 for its clean waters. For those of you who like a less crowded beach and more free situations there are many untouched beaches especially in the first and second Ammolofoi.

The castle of Anaktoroupolis is one of the most important archaeological sites in the Prefecture of Kavala. It commands the headland of Vrasidas, in the vicinity of NeaPeramos, next to the hill of the ancient city. The castle is located at the bay of Eleutherai, to the west of Kavala, which was an important harbour in the North Aegean during the Byzantine period. Anaktoroupolis first appeared in the 9th century as an episcopal see and actually succeeded ancient Oisyme. The fortification of the city, which is dated to the 12th century, according to an inscription on clay built in the walls, is preserved in good condition. The city ceased to exist in the 14-15th centuries with the expansion of the Ottomans.

The Acropolis of Kavala, built around the first quarter of 15th century, stands at the top of Panagia peninsula where the old town is situated. It was built on the remains of the Byzantine Acropolis of Christoupolis (former name of Kavala) which was destroyed in 1391, incorporating parts that survived from it. The various fortification interventions are quite obvious and were carried out by Byzantines, Venetians and Ottomans.
