Brilliant during good weather because of their outdoor seating, but can get overwhelmingly busy inside in the evenings. Delicious Scandinavian food and a nice selection of drinks. Good music!

Teviot is the Edinburgh University student union but is open to the public too. The Library Bar is a magical, charistmatic, fun hang out, and has cheap tasty food & drinks.

Food Scene

AMAZING Italian food - especially recommend the Calzone if you're up for something other than normal pizza, or their squid ink pasta when they have it on the menu. Great desserts too.

Truly the best fish and chips I've ever had. Also hugely recommend the haggis (you can't visit Scotland without trying it!). Order to take away and eat it greasy & hot while you take a wander in Leith

A nice place to splurge on lunch or dinner - mouth-watering menu with great whisky pairings. Get a flight to guide your own tasting or book an official tasting, or just browse their excellent shop.

The best coffee in town with excellent cakes to match. Get a smoothie (I recommend the Pachamama) or hot lemonade if you don't like caffeine, but either way soak up their super unique vibe.

Incredible falafel plates and nice coffee. If the staff seem cranky at first, give them a smile or a joke - they are hilarious and lovely when you get them going.

Great free botanic gardens with a couple little cafes & exhibition spaces to boot. If you have time, we HIGHLY recommend spending a couple hours exploring the Glasshouses (£5 entry)!

If you do one tourist thing in the city, it should be this. INCREDIBLE view and great fun marching up the stairs. Be warned, though - not for the claustrophobic, as the stairs get tight at the top!

Arts & Culture

Incredible museum, plus it's free! You could spend a day in the Natural History section alone (which I have definitely done, multiple times). Kid-friendly and defintely worth a visit for adults too!

NOT for the faint of heart, but well worth a visit if you're not squeamish. Really interesting history of medicine and a gruesomely fascinating collection of... things.
